It had litecoin to contend with... Well back in the day.
But look who came up on top.
Then it was ethereum. And that was not a competitor at all.
Zcash even died upon the wayside.

Who is next? Grin

In the crypto-world, I would say boldly by agreeing with the topic that there is actually no competition because Bitcoin has grown so well to get competition from any ALTs and most importantly the value of any ALT is determined by its relationship to BTC and this is another leap ahead. Another way to look at it is how close are they to FIAT? To the best of my knowledge no matter how big the ALT is, you cant covert to FIAT directly without going through BTC. Who can beat that?...

Just get this out of the way first. Alt currencies are not "in competition" with Bitcoin. The communities mining and holding those currencies may be in competition with the miners and holders of BTC, but bitcoin and Litecoins  themseleves are no more in competition than metals gold and silver are in competition with each other. These are things. Things that compete.

All those FUDsters that where saying year ago how Bitcoin would fail because another currency would take over get proven wrong year after year. The more time Bticoin is alive, the stronger it gets and the bigger the network effect. Sorry but there will not be a Bitcoin 2.0. Bitcoin will go to 100k+ per coin in the next 5 to 10 years, it will absorb all the value researched in the field if not directly through protocol improvements then through sidechains.

Bitcoin will remain the only solid coin. The only coin that survived for the longest time (other coins can't claim this unless they invent a time machine).
There will be alts that pump really hard and make people millionaires, but no alt is going to surpass Bitcoin's strength and solidity. No coin will get a bigger marketcap. In the long term people holding 21+ BTC will be rewarded by history with rich-tier status for seeing the value in it before most people did. Do not let the FUDsters trick your mind or the trolls try to derrail the excellent job being done by Core devs.

Let's continue then our path towards inevitable triumph.

Those fools are eating their words back, while the Bitcoin community rejoices it's growth. It is the King of all currencies. No crypto currency can match it ever. I love Bitcoin a lot, and have been urging people to use it for growth and invest or trade. It's the best thing that has happened to people, can't yet understand why would people stay away or speak shit about Bitcoin

The bitcoin has no competition because there is no similar cryptocurrencie that has the same value as the bitcoin only some that are really low at the point and just one but that value is redicules in comparing with the bitcoin so he has no competition.

I think the same.
Altcoin to me is just a way to multiply my bitcoins, sometimes all my bitcoins are invested in a few altcoins but in the end i sell all of them for more bitcoins.

Agreed, we are in the same page pal, the things you do is also a thing what I'm doing right now, because I can't afford to buy bitcoin directly, so through altcoin I can earn bitcoin quickly by joining in the potential ico in the signature campaign. So I don't think its competing anyone.

Yes has no competition because bitcoin is unique crypto currency which can be use for online shopping and there is a lot of crypto currency but we can not use them for shopping like as bitcoin so bitcoin technology is very modern than other currencies .
Many competition out there that you can found in coinmarketcap almost all altcoin are competition of bitcoin. but bitcoin be still the one that we can use widely.. unlike other altcoin that there is limited site that we can use or i think you can only use them in gambling and no other useful from altcoin..
Unlike bitcoin right now that we can now buy items from amazon via purse.io we can buy domain hosting in namecheap other site like newegg accepting bitcoin..
Altcoin is just making a copy paste of bitcoin that actually they are still not trusted unlike bitcoin that many people are now using it and trusting it

It has competition... All the altcoins are basically competitions for it. Online shopping can be done with other popular cryptocurrencies too, like Monero or Ethereum. It has enough competitors but being the first one out there gives it a big, big advantage over all the altcoins.

Sure, all these new popular altcoins are awesome. But Bitcoin has a much bigger userbase and is looked upon as the most reliable. Remember what happened with Ethereum?

I read somewhere that only bitcoin is a currency and all others are just an application. Yes if you closely watch if a new altcoins arrives it will be the talk of town and will be giving more profits to traders by gaining some decent percentage every day.

But, it will get just fade away when another altcoin comes into market. It happened with dash and will happen with ETH. Really bitcoin has no competition.

It's true at the moment Bitcoin has no competition. New cryptocurrencies are appearing all the time, people hoping they will find ne "holy grail" but so far with no success. Bitcoin has the biggest value, it's spread all around the world, you can use it as a payment method, it's becoming more and more competitive to fiat money. Maybe in the future there will be more successful cryptocurrency but at the moment no chance.
Alt coins come and go but bitcoin is here to stay for the long run and without bitcoin nothing is possible and of anyone is being introduced into digital currency they have to talk about bitcoin first and then the rest of the coins. I do think the rest of the coins are just wanna be coins and truly bitcoin has zero competition.

Well sure people get introduced into crypto world with bitcoin, then they find the altcoins, in the general there arent more then 30 crypto altcoins worthing to invest at the moment, even knowing they have potencial to grow, but not to the level of bitcoin. Altcoins are now used to try to multiply and earn more bitcoins, this is the easy way to try to get bigger ammounts of bitcoin.

Bitcoin is utterly useless without the fiat currencies currently in place

Okay, let's run a thought experiment

Imagine that all fiat currencies disappear one day. Say, aliens abduct all governments, banksters, and other such fraudsters as well as destroy all these currencies, both paper and digital, without a trace. And then they fly away leaving all other things as they were and granting every human being an unlimited access to Internet as a farewell present. What do you think will happen next?

If it isn't then stop pricing it in fiat and see what happens

To stop Bitcoin from being priced in fiat, you should first remove fiat, altogether

I agree let's run an experiment.

Remove fiat from the equation completely.

Let's see how big of balls Bitcoin has.

The short answer is it doesn't have them.

As long as bitcoin is priced in fiat it will be it's competition.

The fact that it is priced in fiat shows that it was a get rich quick scheme.

Is this all what you can support your position with?

Gold had been used as money for a few millenia while fiat has been around only for some two hundred years (maybe, a little more than that). Now gold is traded for fiat too. Does it mean that it is also a get rich quick scheme? And does it somehow change the fact that it had been used as a means of exchange for so long? As said before, Bitcoin has a lot of flaws, but its indisputable feature is that it has everything in it to be used as a currency on its own. Whether it is traded for fiat or used as a speculative asset (or both) is irrelevant to this

Definitely agree, I like the part of "people that have bitcoin will be rewarded with rich-tier status.
Bitcoin as the first digital currency create.d with so many advantages than any other traditional fiat money which could lead us to next generation of payment method.
I have faith in bitcoin in the future and always consider as my investment, let's see what would happen in 5-10 years later

Simply wonderful your belief about bitcoin and I think you do have the level of profits or good luck in the future if indeed bitcoin has extraordinary growth is good. Bitcoin is indeed a good digital currency, yet it all isn't necessarily good for the future. Because all the good things will definitely be replaced at something even better if there are indeed people who are jealous and make the same thing with better features. Just waiting until everything is clearly visible and feel your best

yeah dude it could be possible to make a good money from alt coin trading and you it might even make you rich someday in the future I guess so Grin well let's hope.

I have seen a lot of people losing their money on altcoins. Even I have lost a small amount of my coins investing in these currencies. Unless you are very lucky, you will end up with a loss.
The only trusted coin is bitcoin. Altcoins and shitcoins may disappear antime but bitcoin has already spread its roots and can exist even without the altcoins while altcoins cannot exist without bitcoins. In cryptocurrency industry if we want safe investment it is bitcoin that we need to place our capital in. Truly bitcoin has no replacement and competitors are from reaching the status of bitcoin.
