Have you tried sending bitcoins lately? The fees are getting ridiculously high. You can't say anymore that bitcoin is dirt cheap to sent.
We need fee war to end ASAP or we could say goodbye to bitcoin being used as remittance solution or small money transfers.
I don't even want to start on microtransactions, because bitcoin seems unfitted for this purpose.

I say for now yes, I am sure that if all humans know about bitcoin, then they would leave the financial system as they wear, with bitcoin everything so simple, and we could have full control of all transactions on its own without the help of the other party.
Yeah but right now, the percentage of people on this planet who knows about Bitcoin is still very small, I think it is even less than 1%. And the number of the people are using Bitcoin is even less than 0.1%. Therefore, if you want Bitcoin to be used more often, you have to wait for more than 10 or even 20 years. And of course, Bitcoin is always better than Western Union

This is why we need the community to come together and shelf their selfish interest. The scaling issue need to be resolved because the remittance market is there to take.

It's like bitcoin is all in all and western union is just used for sending and receiving money. Bitcoin is way better for it because of the cheaper fees, though WU is also good for paying goods and services to the merchants only if they are accepting payments through remittance. And you are going to use WU for it.
in addition to have more functions. bitcoin is also more powerful than western union. such as easier to use, flexible, faster for instant, cheaper, so overall bitcoin more powerfull than WU

I didnt know that, this forum is so good and I really like bitcoin money now because so many better things which it have then other services for pay goods.I was thinking always that paypal is best but i see now that something better is coming.

You can see that is it when it have bigger transaction volume and it is in better position.I think that if bitcoin become best payment method how many users here says that it will be that bitcoin will be  in 1 place and that it will have 8-10x bigger price because 8-10x bigger volume maybe even more.

Correct me if I' wrong, but the way I see it western union can be compared only with moneygram and other similar companies, the smaller ones like as transferwise, worldremit and so on. All of these companies transfer fiat money everywhere in the world. On the other side bitcoin is money and its main difference with fiat is that its a transfer of value between bitcoin wallets which included in the blockchain.
The idea behind bitcoin is that you have full control over your assets rather than trusting a bank or a third person and have the ability to move the funds without any hurdle.Western union or moneygram is a service provider used to Send and receiving funds and nothing else.
Yeah bitcoin and western union is same in term of sending and receiving money only
But people love to compare it on how fast the process between them
Overall the bitcoin concept is pretty much different with western union
Once again people really love to compare both as part of elucidate common people about how good bitcoin it is.

OK so how can we compare a money transfer company to a peer-to-peer decentralized currency?

I mean, western union could also transfer bitcoins if they chose.  The comparison is like saying what's better: fruit or wall-mart?

People like to compare Bitcoin with all kinds of services, where they just say that Bitcoin is superior to whatever service. In some cases that might be true, but that definitely isn't always so. It's pure bias in combination with just posting nonsense, while they have no clue about what certain services more have to offer than only a payment platform. I like Bitcoin too, but I am not discarding the popularity and functionality of other payment services/platforms. And yes, Western Union could technically implement Bitcoin, but it's not all that easy due to all kinds of different regulations. Don't forget that they operate in over 200 countries. It would mean that they have to comply with the rules of more than 200 countries. That will be a damn hard job. But hey, I wouldn't mind seeing them adopt Bitcoin in the way that I for example deposit $1000, and that a person elsewhere in the world can pick up that amount worth in Bitcoin. That would be epic.

Glad to see BTC increase, although seeing Western Union like this may cut off people in Eastern countries moreover than any place else in comparison.

It's almost a necessity to require a computer or printer to use Bitcoin in the physical world... I doubt this will effect the people using either because of how they prefer conducting transactions.

Before regulation, crimes used to be popular with Western Union / Liberty Reserve and now both this and BTC now offer utility throughout mainstream.

Western Union at best is a major ripoff.

Used them a couple of times as there was no other way to send funds quickly but since getting involved with bitcoin I've never been back to WU and doubt I ever will.
Same for me I used a couple of times Western Union system before bitcoin existed when I need cash badly at the abroad. There was more than %10 fee (I don't know the up to date fee now). I don't think I will use again the Western Union. And I also think the use of bitcoin  will rise day by day.

The reason why WU is surviving and is still in demand as people have no other choice then WU to send or receive money in quick time as they are not aware about bitcoin yet and WU is widely spread and you will see it branches in each and every corner of the world and it also exist since long time and is more popular then bitcoins but when people will start discovering bitcoin I am sure they will switch to bitcoins for money transfers.

I am not fond of the idea of constantly comparing Bitcoin with Paypal, Western Union or other money transfer solutions. Bitcoin is on another level, because it is an idea in itself. Bitcoin as we use it is the first implementation of the idea, thus represents the kickstarter of the very future of cryptograhically secure peer to peer transactions that we see unfolding in increasingly widespread use all over the world.

I still can't find the western union coin on any exchange.  How many BTC is it worth?  Is it publicly or privately issued?  There must be some comparison here, a lot of people have opinions on it, yet I can't find the thing.

You can't be serious, right? In case you are in fact serious, no, it's not an altcoin, so stop browing through exchanges. Western union is a fiat based money transfer service. Just use Google and you'll find out.

OK so how can we compare a money transfer company to a peer-to-peer decentralized currency?

Not mean to be rude but where have you been all this time man, do you know about PayPal?
Check on Google " Western Union?", It will show you all information about it.
WU is not a coin obviously, it is a remittance service all over the world but handle fiat transaction (send-receive money) read about it https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Union
What we compare is how many value of money/equal to bitcoin in global transaction.
What makes bitcoin better is the low fees of bitcoin compare to higher fees to use WU service.

Hey mate, just trying to make a point, sorry.

We might as well ask - which is better, dollars or western union?

Actually a far better comparison would be Bitpay and Western Unioin, as both are third party payment providers.

Of course if we can use dollars or bitcoin directly, we don't need either of these companies and will do better without them.  Their niche is for when we are dealing in situations in which we can't do so directly, for whatever reason (such as the recipient is in police custody).

Cheers -

12$ for 100$ ? That's quite outrageous fees ?
Just as expected on those money remitance centers they are earning tons of profits because of those unjustifiable fee.Imagine a $100 transfer requires $12 fee thats 12% and i does really hurts specially when you are sending huge amounts and thats why bitcoin is really much better compared to WU.

Exactly we're not talking about bitcoin as currency and compare it to the western union but as payment method. Anyway i told my friend to stop using western union, they charges him 12 dollars for every 100 dollars of the transaction and it took 4 business days, now he's using bitcoin and he can send his money to all over the world simply without worried about the fee, it is really cheap.
