Your freedom with bitcoin is measured on the amount of bitcoins you have. You might be much more free with a lot of paper fiat (very anonymous too) than with 1 bitcoin.

This doesn't mean that 1 bitcoin might not give you more freedom in the future than lots of fiat, but on that we can only make conjectures.

Also this doesn't affect the potential freedom that bitcoin can give IF you have a lot of them in front of having your fiat in a bank.

Freedom is exemption from external control, interference, regulation, etc. The less people control your life, the more free you are. Freedom is not a true/false question but a range, I'd say.

Very important observation regarding freedom being a range, not a true/false.

You also have to remember, that not everyone wants to be free. Everyone says they do, but they do not fully understand what it means to be free, and what the cost of freedom is. Freedom goes hand in hand with personal responsibility. You cannot have one without the other. The very thought of being truly responsible for their own life scares a lot of people. They want the government to be there and "take care of them". They want to hear the soothing sound of government whispering in their ear: "don't worry, we are here, everything is fine, you are safe".

A lot of people are lazy that way. There is an old saying which is very good. More than anything, people want to "have their cake, and eat it, too". Everyone wants freedom, but few are ready to accept the responsibility that comes with it.

Onestopbrokers,

The 10,000 to 20,000+ criminal bankers, wall street crooks, and various other white collar criminals that are guilty of frauds, various felonies and money laundering totaling trillions of dollars from 2000 to 2014 were not driven to doing so by over-regulation, nor the complete DE-regulation of the financial sector, which is what really occurred during that period of time. Your stating nothing but misinformation in your post Onestopbrokers. But then we both know what your doing and why.

END THE FED. END ALL CENTRAL BANKING AS WE KNOW IT.

End the Debt-based currencies. Free the World. And afterwords there wont be any need for any income taxes on anyone's personal labors. All the income taxes end up in the hands of the criminal bankers. But that's another lesson for elsewhere.

Bitcoin is the new "checks" in "checks & balances" for all governments that print too much debt-FREE currencies in the future, a place for peoples to flee to if their governments ever print too much money ever again.

Bitcoin and those like it is the best thing to happen for both governments and their peoples.

Soon even the most dimwitted government officials will figure out they can be all that they hoped they could for societies at large, just as soon as they fire the criminal banking cartels, and abolish their debt-based usury currency schemes that the bankers prey off of all of us with into perpetuity. Let's just hope they also decide to toss 10,000 to 20,000+ financial criminals into prison and claw back their ill gotten gains while their at it.

since people discover the digital currencies shows the need people have to be free from strict regulations about money possession and flow. Yeah, absolutely, no restrictions means illegal activities and here is the point for government to implement the RIGHT tools to monitor digital currencies. But also strong regulation drives people to illegal activities. They and people as groups must find the best solution for better guidance.

Depends on what freedom you are talking about, though. In using bitcoin, we are free from the control of a central authority; we can not be dictated by them and more importantly, we can not be ruled by them. We are also free from the hassles of banks. Cheesy

Until bitcoin has the spread of an average credit card, you cant say you're free from bank hassle, since you need to convert bitcoin to fiat at some point.

Until bitcoin becomes heavily regulated, it wont have the adoption it needs, but with increase in regulation, you're loosing that freedom idea that started this whole thing.
Something like a pat position for bitcoin it seams.

A beginner's guide to bitcoin

http://www.coindesk.com/information/

 Bitcoin is Freedom
 ---------------------

Bitcoin is Freedom from oppression, exploitation & tyranny by Banksters.

From cradle to grave we have all been financial debt slaves through the debt based fiat currency schemes that should have long ago been outlawed.

Bitcoin offers People an avenue of Safe Haven that assures a fiscally disciplined currency.

Bitcoin is vastly superior to traditional fiat currency schemes.

Bitcoin brings all Peoples Freedom by forcing Decentralized Monetary Competition, and by doing that it will eventually force governments to become fiscally disciplined with their monetary matters, or suffer monetary failures repeatedly until they do.

Bitcoin will ultimately free governments from their Bankster Masters (each countries Central Bank) when governments finally re-learn to print and issue their own debt-free currencies, while abolishing their existing Central Banks powers and controls over them. This will hopefully occur as the present system fails and governments finally realize they hold all the cards, not the Banksters.

So simply put:

 Bitcoin is Freedom
 ---------------------

What is freedom tho? Free will is an illusion. Henceforth, what would we qualify as freedom? Bitcoin reduces barriers, but there is no such thing as freedom. You are always subject to the amount of BTC you have, to your hormones, and to your genetics to adquire these BTC.

Freedom is exemption from external control, interference, regulation, etc. The less people control your life, the more free you are. Freedom is not a true/false question but a range, I'd say.

i agree with all of you.
Bitcoin is freedom and future, financial freedom to be exact.
But... still we are very far from our goal, to become globally accepted and mainstream.
Official financial institution will oppose us as much as they can because nobody can control Bitcoin and there is no bank behind us.
I hope that first big merchants will understand great benefits of using bitcoins and after them governments and ordinary people.

When do you think bitcoin will become mainstream? I predict the year 2020.
But.. on the other hand, bitcoin provides us with freedom already now - look at all the things we can do with it. It creates a whole new economy and business opportunities on a global scale. I think instead of banned, it should be supported - because it can improve the economy on a global scale.
