Unless the alt was able to get itself a market and was able to have a direct exchange whether its buy/sell fiat. Some people believe including me that there will be a coin that can surpass bitcoin.. it may be not now, next month, next year, etc.
there is a better probability that bitcoin will surpass itself instead of another random coin surpassing it, i see it as that and i think it make more sense
bitcoin is not even completed, so the chance to have a better bitcoin with better function is basically guaranteed
Bitcoin will never be completed. That's the beauty of open-source, everything important will be implemented when needed. Those who think altcoins will have any chance..... Keep dreaming.

If bitcoin were to go down, I`d probably take my chances back to gold.

As a low % chance outcome it cant hurt to have a little incase right? No other coin is ahead of LTC if something crazy happened to bitcoin the other ones look pretty much dead on coinmarketcap.
this is only a phase like it was many times before that. and it is a pretty good idea to get involved with litecoin because of that % chance. but only if you are into altcoin trading and you have to leave the market before you become a bagholder.

a good coin, should be one that incorporate every good aspect about some altcoin, like ring/signature/mini-blockchain/energy efficient/and energy useful(curecoin)

you can at best expect only a small pump like one of those that happen each week on a random altcoin, then a even bigger crash, litecoin is doomed the halving won't save it...

It's actually fact. Litecoin has been abandoned for a while. It only got a lot of traction at the beginning because it coined itself as the original alt (when it's actually a fork of Tenebrix) and because Gobble was involved.
imagine what will happen when btc-e decide to delist litecoin. the only reason it is still there is due to the fact that it generates an ok volume for an altcoin.
