I prefer for choosing bitcoin because its price is slowly recovering and when you invest bitcoin you can gain more profits.
I think bitcoin is better than litecoins, I see in terms of popularity and market share in various world renowned exchange, I prefer bitcoin, although litecoin has a price also in the market.
bitcoin certainly has superiority over lightcoin, bitcoin can be considered as a long-term investment, but with lightcoin it is possible to make good money playing on the growth prospect
If I'll treat myself as a newbie these will be the factors that I'll consider.
1. How much I'll invest.
2. Am I really sure of investing?
3. Depth knowledge for both.
And moving on after answering these factors that I made, I'll go for both.

Bitcoin. Litecoin is done because of the dev issues.
As for me, Litecoin is not a reliable project; it overcharges a lot, he has no such technologies as Dash, Monero, Ethereum have. Their only hope was Litepay payment, and they lose it.
IMO Bitcoin is better because it have no public persons like Charlie Lee who keep manipulating the market with different messages.
For instance, Litepay was a total freaking shill. The price of the LTC rose, and after reddit users finded out it's a fake Charlie just said "sorry, we will try better next time".

Litecoin is more innovative and has the better technology right now, but as THE cryptocurrency number 1, Bitcoin won't lose it's worth and #1 position on market cap very soon. Vell, people are also still working on improving the btc network (see lightning network, atomic swaps), when those get implemented the btc network might get properly usable and uptodate once again.
There is no doubt that the currency is the best of all the encryption currencies, if want to investment, I still think the currency has been one of the best, because it has more value, is used as a means of preserving value.

of course bitcoin is the main choice in any associated with crypto. this does not become a relevant comparison in my opinion, because there are still some altcoins that are above litecoin. even litecoin will never be able to defeat ripples and ethereum.
Bitcoin is Bitcoin and the litecoin is a valuable altcoin. You cannot compare bitcoin with others. If your question is about investing, I wouldn't select only one of them. A portfolio with BTC, LTC, ETH and XMR would be better I think.
These two coins, I think, need an ecosystem of cryptocurrencies. Litecoin is like a platform for experiments. Often interesting things appear before it. And then they are transferred to Bitcoin.
For microtransactions, litecoin is more suitable now, because it still has rather small fees. But the future is the same as that of bitcoin

Litecoin is now overtaken by EOS and Cardano. so it is very risky to have Litecoin. so I will stick with Bitcoin which remains the number one on the Cryptocurrency market.

it is definitely bitcoin has a high value when compared with Litecoin or anything coin. because Bitcoin is the king of all coins, so the price is the greatest for all the other coin. but for a limited capital like me, of course I would choose Litecoin Well? Let's hear it.
I simply choose Bitcoin because of its sustainability, and profitability wherein you can do both trading and long-term investment. Not only that bitcoin is the mainstream cryptocurrency but because it has the most market share and highest trading volume in the market today. Litecoins is good too but as an altcoin, we can't compare it to bitcoin because is way too far from it. I am seeing litecoin as a long-term investment because it is pretty cheap right now. Currently, I'm holding a lot of litecoin, I am expecting to reach its highest value this 2018 and I believe it will be next mainstream coin in the market well of course not today but someday.
