"I can’t believe I have to keep reiterating the core point, but here we go again: the flaw in proof-of-work as used in Bitcoin is that you have to expend 50% of all the computing power in the universe, for the rest of time in order to keep the currency stable"

I don't think everything the press has ever written about Bitcoin needs to be on the page. I also don't think screenshots are needed.

thanx for a reply. ok then only the most notable articles? with original point of views? for me it is also noteworthy to see the first article in a new country etc.
the forum is no good place for presenting articles. only for collecting them.

Business21C Weekly explores the business of BitCoin with Bruce Wagner who hosts an online TV show about BitCoin, and economist Adam Cohen who is a hobbyist tracker of financial currency.

+1, though I think this thread would largely duplicate said wiki page...

I didn't get *any* feedback on my effort to bring all these references to the wiki Press page.
I would continue by adding this one, too but somehow feel like I'm the only one that thinks it is a good idea to have screen shots and some meta data.
Sorry for bringing this up again but if there is no reaction at all I would assume it is a waste of time but telling me "hey, it is a waste of time" would help big deal.

Haven't seen any international sites reporting on this though

It's by TT, the Swedish equivalent to AP. The one published at DI.se (largest industry/economy paper in Sweden) is a lot longer and better though - quoting Falkvinge.

A new currency is emerging on the Internet. Net currency Bitcoin traded without middlemen and fees and expected by users challenge current banking system. But U.S. politicians now want to prohibit Bitcoin when they suspect that the anonymous and highly encrypted currency used by drug dealers.
Netdrugexpert Cecilia Fant of the Criminal Investigation Department says that a similar ban may be the case also in Sweden.

(As I don't understand Swedish and now see the need to have an english excerpt in the template, I'm bringing this up, now.)

July 23, 2011 -  Drew Wilson  - IFPI Announces Agreement With PayPal to Cut Off Pirate Sites
http://www.zeropaid.com/news/94617/ifpi-announces-agreement-with-paypal-to-cut-off-pirate-sites/

(IFPI = International Federation of the Phonographic Industry)

From the article:
"Other sites have opted to simply stop using PayPal altogether and simply use other methods like Flatr and Bitcoin to name two examples."

" In fact, this is great news for competitors of PayPal because it means more reasons to move away from PayPal to them in the first place. The only entity I see losing out in a deal like this is PayPal."

This is not a discussion thread.

If you do not have a "press hit" or other link to post, please post in another thread.  Thank you.

Credibility is not needed when making an argument.  The argument stands or falls on its own merit. Credibility only comes into account in the absence of facts.

It's great we are getting these guys on the record demonstrating how dumb they are.

"Hard times flushes out the chumps" - O' Brother Where Art Thou?

Why are they dumb?

An economist has dedicated his adult life to the study of money. Can you claim anywhere near his level of credibility?

One can dedicate ones life about a number of non-scientific pursuits. That makes them expert in only their own opinions.

(Decided to chime in since this thread has long since ceased to be about newsworthy press.)

I didn't see anyone mention this, in Time magazine 7-11-11

"Digital Deflation
How an online currency stacks up to the dollar

Since the financial crisis, many economists  have been calling for the creation of a new global reserve currency to replace the dollar.  To gauge how such a system might work, some have been tracking the progress of Bitcoin, a virtual currency, which makes it possible to buy and sell online anonymously.  Bitcoins were devised in 2009 by pseudonymous programmer Satoshi Nakamoto and have gained a following among techies.  For economists, the lure is that the tender is not run by a government or central bank.  No quantitative easing here.  The number of Bitcoins increases at a constant rate, much as legendary economist Milton Friedman prescribed for a stable currency.  But in mid-June, Bitcoin took a hit.  The virtual currency plunged in value after a hacker nearly stole $9 million of the digital money.  The exchange rate had reached $30 per Bitcoin, up from $5 earlier in the year.  After the hack, the value dove to a peny but has rebounded to $16.  The dollar, on the other hand, despite the tsunami in Japan, unrest in the Middle East and continued high unemployment has dropped just 5c vs. the euro this year.  So much for virtual-currency experiments and the quest to replace the greenback."

Yeah..  Time is a great one for black and white simplified thinking.

I'd like to invite you to use the wiki. I just wrote a template for this. This thread is nice but a some more condensed form might be better.

I integrated the template in Press Wiki Page for 3 sources to firstly showcase the difference it could make and secondly to improve on it.
Press will love to get a condensed view of other press articles so a good overview will help to get press again I guess.

I hope I can motivate others to join in this slight extra effort Smiley
