On the other hand, traders and speculators love volatility. They make money in both directions - so they wouldn't mind a huge spike followed by a crash.

Not quite according to Coinbase. For the past 4 days we are in green, meaning there's an increase of price but as of August 9 from $593.78 of August 8 went down to $591 yesterday so that's -$2.93. Biggest so far +$12.16 which is August 4 $568 jumped to $580 on August 5

What I want is that the bitcoin price rises 1% per week, or 2 to 4% per month, without a big price drop.

Honestly the price right now is reduce compare the past 2 days. the price today according to preev price is decrease into $4.
But this is not the case that the price of bitcoin will continue to decrease its just a small amount bt sooner the price again will increase back again..

yes we have seen the impact of the hack in our wallets.... we were wandering that the halving would increase the rate but it was opposite due to the hack...But now its rising slowly... i think it will again hit 750$ in few time....

The Coinbase has lost some Ethereum due to replay attack. But that should not make Coinbase insolvent.

I'm hoping that the drop could start a trigger a rise in some of the older Alts like DOGE, LTC and DASH as people move out of BTC and regroup on their Alt waiting for the next rise

I do not think so. The drop of the bitcoin is due to the lack of funds flowing into the crypto currency world.
