Scammers handbook, take advantage of those in the most need.

People making threads about a scam?  Must mean that a lot of people are being scammed and need a new product/service to replicate the scamming service.  Rinse, repeat, until we are all back to using just Mt Gox for the final end all scam to Bitcoin when we are had again.

How prophetic BitcoinPorn was. Scary stuff about what he said about Mt. Cocks.

I know. He said that directly to me three years ago and that fat latte drinking fucker still clipped me for 200 coins. I was sucked in by his attempt to be legit and taking all the reporting documents from people. Oh well, water under the bridge now I suppose.

So is the fiat scamming business....particularly the banks & credit card companies who are getting away with it daily. What's your point?

Nobody said fiat isn't in the business of scamming. Can you point to where anyone said the same thing doesn't happen in fiat?

Point is Bitcoin is just as good for scamming as fiat.

So just thinking out in my head here  in light of the bitcoin7.com scam  ( which your's truly called it a scam https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=17043.0;all ) where and how do these scams come about ?

I'm starting to see a pattern here between the polish exchange , mybitcoin and the other's who seem to have been "scammed" by some bad people .  My theory:

Build a front-facing website that actually looks like a "business" , then cry-foul that russians came and took your business wallet along with all the BTC of your customers, sell the company to anyone who wants it  then walk-away with all the coins.

Rinse & Repeat. I mean all these sites come up with the same Bullshit could their be collusion involved with all these? Should we put Phinnaeus Gage on the case?

Thoughts?

Why is it when anyone mentions "scam" in a subject line there ends up being an infomercial a couple of posts down the thread.

I should have listened to you back then. You had Mt Gox pegged three years ago. Long before anyone else thought it was just a scam.

As a piece of advice: don't put money on exchanges where you don't know the real identity of the owners and trust them with the money.

At this point, if the exchanges or any site that has any significant amount of Bitcoin in it, isn't shouting the praises of their awesome security team or staff, you might be a redneck.  Or I mean, you might have a site you shouldn't dump significant coin in.

Just on a seperate remark: bitomat.pl was no scam as far as I'm concerned. First of all, every single BTC was refunded, all the money was handed over as well. Except from the owner of Bitomat, who lost a lot of time and nevers, nobody else lost anything!!! From all the communication I had witht he owner I'm pretty sure that what he described actually happened the way he described it.
On Bitcoin7: They have stopped their customer service like 2 month ago, API was broken since 1 1/2 month and not repaired... I don't think it was actual scam - Most likely they just didn't care about the website any more and left it lying around, ready to be hacked.
Mybitcoin.com is the only thinkg that looks like real scam to me.

As a piece of advice: don't put money on exchanges where you don't know the real identity of the owners and trust them with the money.

They might say "Lol, what? Bitcoins?" but (correct me if I'm wrong) breaking into someone's computer or server is considered a "serious" crime in a lot of places. On the other hand, I'm not entirely sure it would be a crime at all if the exchange openly decided they wanted to walk away with everyone's bitcoins and not give anything back. Sure, they're a representation of a currency to the ones who know about it, but there's nothing in law that even remotely mentions stealing someone's bitcoins is illegal anywhere in the world. Maybe if the bitcoin client had some sort of ToS...

Seems like the perfect crime: steal something that's valuable, easily transportable and easily traded for money.  If the victims go complaining to police in their country nothing can be done.  "Lol wat? Bitcoins?" would be the police response, followed by the difficulty in chasing someone down from the other side of the planet.

We're the only long running exchange that hasn't been compromised (formerly Britcoin), are based in London with a development team. Our group (Bitcoin Consultancy) is also actively involved in developing other areas of bitcoin, operates other services and is working with merchants.

Our about us: https://intersango.com/about-us.php

Our development's group website: http://bitcoinconsultancy.com/

We were the ones just at SWIFT's (the messaging network used for international bank transfers) SIBOS conference on the future of banking discussing how bitcoin could be used to improve international transfers.

So we're pretty much heavily invested in bitcoin for the long term. The purpose of our group is to hire people to work full-time on furthering bitcoin.

britcoin/intersango is the only exchange i trust and will ever use...thumbs up for the excellent service so far Smiley
