This means that a lot of people are desperate for income, and Bitcoin Talk has become known as the Golden Fountain.

Certainly yes, some people subscribe to the forum to earn some bitcoin, some people subscribe to learn something about the bitcoin and the cryptomarket, but difficultly at this time in when the Bitcoin is low and google trends reports has bitcoin in very low spot on the top list.
Hardly people sign up now when Bitcoin turns out not to be searched on google!
+25% accounts is too high and beyond reality, I can believe that AT LEAST a 90% of this 25% is made up of bots and multi-accounts.

Well, apparently i can not suggest anything to your project but i just want to tell you guys about my story. I made a Telegram group for members in my local board to learn and talk in English in April I guess. Got around 50 members and around first week it is so active, but the activity is decreased over time. Then at some point there were never any talks on the group. After several month, today i decided to delete the group because it doesnt active anymore and no one seems want to learn and talk in English.

Thats the reality of some members of this forum. I am sad and angry at the same time.

I think it’s time to ban Twitter/Facebook’s bounties, or to use a Google Forms report instead of replying to the bounty thread.
There are already some smart bounty managers that uses Google form as a way of reporting status of their participants "Twitbooks report" (those massive links that we can see in bounties) but seems like even though it is much better to use Google form to somehow lessen spam posts, most of those bounty managers still want their participants to post the links of their reports. Maybe because they also want their bounty thread to be bumped by spammer.

About banning Twitter and Facebook, well I've no idea if it will be a good move. No comments for now.

Oops. Sorry for the off-topic.

The problem is probably 95%+ of people signing up here are doing so just for bounties and the majority of them are clueless. They've just been thrown in at the deep-end by someone telling them they can get paid to post here.

I think the real problem is not in the bounty. If we can participate in the bounty, we can also post constructive posts, which does not affect the forum.
As a newcomer, I also want to earn extra income through the bounty, but when I look at the bounty section, it makes me a headache, countless Twitter/Facebook links, in a 100-page post, at least 90 pages are full of these links.
I think it’s time to ban Twitter/Facebook’s bounties, or to use a Google Forms report instead of replying to the bounty thread.

I really do appreciate your efforts for the system. Yeah as i read the thread i kinda sad too that they are ignoring your good efforts to put up a good community and healthy environment for this forum. I always look up on you since you are in hero or full member account and wishing that i might get some merits before. This is the way i see you before a merit giver but now after some time i realize that it is not all about the merits. This is all about learning and i have started already my small scale investment with btc with hard earn money i have. As bounty hunter also it is so hard to get merit to rank up but at least for now i realize that behind my effort to earn there is still someone like you whom efforts that one should be rewarded and not the likes of me. Do not be sad because you have our support here.

I'm wondering if any new members started off lurking like I did.  I was reading stuff on bitcointalk for months before I actually created an account !

I have done this too , was just reading in 2014 and 2015 before i created my real Account here in 2016 !

I'm wondering if any new members started off lurking like I did.  I was reading stuff on bitcointalk for months before I actually created an account, and this is in 2014 or so when the whole Mt. Gox situation was unfolding.  I have a feeling that most noobs haven't started off this way, that they've heard about the altcoin bounties and come straight here for that.

Because they've done no reading, they jump in without knowing anything about the rules of the forum or of the culture.  They think this is a work-from-home website, and then they're surprised when they get banned or negged or don't rank up because they can't get merits.

So Jet Cash, as I've said before, your expectations are way too high.  You're doing a good job by trying to help the noobs, but in the end you're going to keep being disappointed.  I have very low expectations from people, so I'm rarely shocked by the idiotic BS that you mentioned.  I do think members ought to have the common sense not to keep quoting huge infographics or gigantic blocks of text.  What can you do.

I think I can feel your pain. I have read through this thread thus far. It is intended to make the junior ranks like me to get a good understanding of the forum, yet all the comments are coming from the higher ranks. It is really saddening in deed.

Please do not change your mind on the academy and any other project you have to help make us grow in this forum. I have not come across the link to the thread you referred to. Please if you can post it here I will appreciate.

It will make a great impact to be evaluated by great members like you.

As someone posted here, https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/statistics-of-2312-million-bitcointalk-users-5025283 we have 2.3 millions accounts right now with a +25% on forum accounts on last quater while the Bitcoin is at low-near lowest value for 2018 (with a consequent decline in advertising around the world).
This is very strange and in my opinion I think 95% of those accounts are bots or alts, joined only for abusing bouties and signatures.
I can not understand in any way the reason for this + 25% when the market is experiencing a moment of crisis, it makes no sense.

It isn't too difficult to understand. If you look at Dr Copper and the Baltic Dry index, you will see that world trade is declining, as is industrial investment. Jeff Bazos picks up $268,000,000 per day from his activities, which caused the loss of businesses like Toys'r' Us. This sucks employment and wages away from the working population. There are numerous issues like this. Share buybacks whilst the directors of major corporations are unloading their shares is another example.

This means that a lot of people are desperate for income, and Bitcoin Talk has become known as the Golden Fountain.

I see, just in case you will be needing some help the offer is still there.

Tech board is really a good place since most of the post are very technical. That place has a small hole for spammers. Anyways you have the full control to whom you will give your merit

IMO, you're trying a bit too hard, that's what I felt. No offense whatsoever. When you try too hard and don't get the desired results, sadness is obvious.
A good piece of advice.

@Jet Cash: You might find some encouragement from this forum.

Take notes:
- to reach first 101 members, it took 4 months, 20 days (excluding the end date)
- to reach first 1001 members, it took 9 months, 8 days
- most of these members did not even made it to a Jr.

I guess f2t is doing better than this is this short period of time. Remember you need long term members not spam bots.

I hope you will find something encouraging from this date I pulled manually.

By the way, keep doing the good works without worrying about the expected outcome. If your work is good enough for people, if your work provides value to the community then today or tomorrow or years later you will see good things will start getting back.

I suspect the issue is that the 1% of new members who would probably be interested in your projects don't actually need the help to start making good posts, and the ones who are not interested in your projects don't care about making good posts.

Altcoin posts and posts asking questions that are already answered in a sticky make up >75% of the posts in Beginners & Help. Removing these would be a great start to cleaning it up.

We need a Beginners and Help board for the alt coin section.

I've suggested that several times as well.

In fact the whole of the underworld here needs to be given its own section.

We need a Beginners and Help board for the alt coin section. The current bitcoin one is being swamped by the same old crap being asked about ALT coin related subjects. We also need to get the Newbie/Welcome message initiated which I suggested here. I messaged theymos abut it yesterday but that will likely just get ignored like everything else does. That needs to happen asap as info about all the things they need to know can be included there so they don't need to litter the place up with the same old questions.

Some newbies are interested in learning and not in making fast money. Some may be interested in learning as well as making some money. But what’s the percentage? 0,1%? For me, it’s not surprising that most of them don’t pay attention to your good projects.

Thanks for your efforts, by the way.

Sorry to see you loosing hope but you're right, the focus has shifted on this forum.

I am fed up with the spam issue in some boards like Bitcoin/Altcoin Discussion, Trading etc.
I tried to bring a guide/my research on exchanges in there but it was quickly buried by spam, total waste of time...

[...]
I seem to have started quite a few projects, and most have a pretty low level of activity, but they can still take up quite a lot of time. Also, I am paying for domain names and hosting, and if they are not of benefit to members, then I should probably close them. Later today I will list them, and I would be grateful for any suggestions as to how they can be improved, or if they are no longer required.
[...]
Which hosting providers are you using?

I used to run a lot of websites and got pretty good deals on hosting, maybe I can help direct you to better offers.

I can help you aswell in designing some of your sites like blog(for free). Also don't mind giving merits that is for some quality post not for sympathy

Thanks for the offers. I use templates and CMS installed via Softaculous, and I enjoy playing with that. Softaculous is probably the reason I started so many sites if I have to admit the truth.

At the moment I've got an excess of sMerits to award, and I've revisited the tech board. That is quite interesting again, and I should take advantage of it to optimise my node and wallet. I haven't even created a segwit address yet for example.

The Fit to Talk project is a really good initiative and like theymos mentioned in a post about courses and educating, it's contributing and let the one's who want to learn, learn, ignore the other's.

Maybe Jet cash expected too much from those work. Tho I can't personal blame him since the effort he give is also a lot.

Ignoring others who don't want to learn is just the opposite of his perspective i guess since he is encouraging someone to improve. That is why it is hurting his feeling.

@jetcash just continue doing efforts that will surely be worth it later on. I can help you aswell in designing some of your sites like blog(for free). Also don't mind giving merits that is for some quality post not for sympathy

Thanks for all the kind words guys, and there are certainly some interesting posts here. I'm sorry I don't feel I should award any merits, I'm not sure that it is ethical.

I do need to sort out the projects though. I deleted the Jetcash academy as there was no interest in that at all. I've neglected the ask a legendary project - This is the link to ask a legendary There isn't much of an overhead with that, and it is on the Jet Cash domain, so I might leave that alone for a while. The node and mining project never really got started, but I'm still interested in that, so maybe I'll have another go in a month ot two.

I'm interested in crypto use as part of economic survival as the current banking system implodes, so I'll run that project as a private club with just a few members - Economic survival with the Wise Accountant

I haven't updated my merit source blog for quite some time. I'll revisit that and give it some spasmodic updates in the future. The site is called "The Source", but the blog bit is "Walking the plank" - You can view my merit source blog by clicking this link

I'm not sure what to do with the ignore list, and it's associated support ticket system. I may just keep that private.

There are several more projects, and I'll look at those later - the embryonic merit source toolkit might still be useful.

I'm so grateful that there are still good Samaritans in this world, and you are one of them. Being concerned about this forum also to the members of it is really a wonderful thing to be heard. Your motive is great(which is to help) people to improve their post quality to avoid so much spamming in this forum, which is too hard to be solve, merit systems doesn't even waver them. People would ignore your project if they are not interested on it, simple as that.

The conclusion that came up to my mind is that, no matter how hard we try to help them, if they don't want any help, then we can't do anything about them, they will keep doing what they are doing and ignore the right thing to do. So, there must be a limit for it, my suggestion is that there should be a bot or something that will monitored every post that would be made here in this forum 24/7, if the bot detected that is just a spam post, then it would get denied, so the poster would need to change his posting style until he fits to the requirement post.

I know this is too much to ask, but we need to be more strict about our policy here, we have to force them to make quality post, or else in no time, this forum will be flooded of spam posts, just my opinion.
