What a convenient and compelling story is this one crap with the hacker. Almost makes me pull some more cash and give it to John Carley to take away his grief, all his intentions were immaculate and transparent (besides his identity of course). John Carley should firstly hand over all files & documentation to the public, not to some authorities from a far away country (who I'm sure will solve the case and return the money ... with profit).

My account was fully cleaned (several hours ago), no shares, no pending cashouts, no nothing ...
I've invested all my mined earnings (~ 6 BTC at the time) and had ROI last week on 9th, the same day it all went south. 4 k USD down the drain.
Are there any legal actions that can be taken against him ? Does anyone know how he is ? There were other names involved in this scam : Michael Brandenburg, Thomas Oppermman, what about them ?
Also there were several photos posted on tweeter, does anyone recognize those persons ?
Much of the fault is on our side (investors) for being naive (and a bit greedy), but there should be someone held responsible for false advertising and stealing peoples money.

Moving from Denial to Anger ....

Who'd have thought it would have ended like this? They seemed like such a legitimate business. And offering such believable returns with complete transparency, too.
I guess they just got really unlucky when they were trying to satisfy their over-demanding customers with the audit, right?
Face. Palm.

Same case for me.

I had 10 Trading share and few $$ won by them... All is disappeared, account history too...

If history is right (BTC wallet hacked and emptied), why deleting all account history?
No logical here...
And i agree for ransom, lol, why hacker would propose this deal, it's definitively not logical...

I hope none of you geniuses are still buying this. Why did they need to get rid of all their fiat to prove solvency? Why couldn't they just show control of wallets and trading accounts that contained all the coins they were supposed to have? Why would the hacker offer to give 75% of the coins back? Why are people stupid enough to fall for this shit over and over again?

Dear Clients

Regrettably I have to announce the failure and closure of Bitcoin Trader.

While preparing for the final audit results, a task we were working on for weeks now, our bitcoin wallet has been hacked and emptied, just after exchanging our fiat holdings within the exchanges to bitcoin and transferring our entire holdings to our wallet, in order to proof our solvency.

It is a known fact that I personally opposed any proof of solvency, but agreed to conduct it for the sake of a few dozen small and medium investors.

The hacker contacted me shortly after he took advantage of our holdings and demanded a ransom in order to transfer the coins back. I have agreed to a 25% ransom of the entire sum, but haven’t heard back from him for several days now.

My aim was to create something based on trust, just as bitcoin itself is based on distributed trust. Unfortunately I must admit today, I have failed. All left to do now is to declare bankruptcy with the Panamanian authorities and to hand over all relevant files and information for further investigation.

Sincerely,
John Carley

I agree. The only people who have said John Carley exists are Brandenburg and Opperman. We have no proof he exists beyond the statements of known fraudsters. So, as far as I am concerned, there is no John Carley.

There is, however, a Thomas Opperman. And he's been doxxed.

And you assume he's the same Opperman...or even a real person to begin with.

A well-played Con will have fake "legit" people.

In fact. I, personally, would setup fake 'documents' for people to "dox". Tour a neighborhood, get a feel for it. So I can act like I live there....because I know of the little park down the block that was built after a house was torn down. Or the fact the mayor was caught drinking and driving in late September for the second time.

You know, the little things that only someone from the area would know.....after all, most local papers are delivered before 6 AM Wink

Then make social media posts about those things. Set up weak passwords for those accounts so I can 'get hacked'. Maybe even go as far as to setup social media accounts for my 'fake family'.

After all, we're talking potential millions in nearly untraceable "cash" (Bitcoin). All I have to do is siphon off a lil here and there and run it through tumblers; and by little I mean a thousand or so a week. So it's more than "worth my time" to make this Con look 'legit'.

Once you know what people will look for you can easily steer them any direction you want.

PS: Most 'good' thieves don't get greedy...instead of taking that $100 in $1 bills laying on the counter; they'll take 23 and leave the rest. --Conartists are just thieves that trick you into giving them the money.

*IF* John Carley exists at all. Imagine he doesn't for a second. All victims trying to find a non existent person that was just set in place to take the blame while the real head(s) are laughing at the crowd hunting a phantom.

there is little to go on in terms of finding John "Mr. Big" Carley.

if they found Pirate@40 and DPR, mr. Carley do not seem to have many chances to stay lost.

The show is well and truly over when the shills start packing their bags and moving on.

Crazyivan, shill par excellence, has moved on to pastures new, ltcgear I believe, and locked his 33 page of puffery
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/bitcoin-arbitrage-quite-profitable-btc-investment-make-up-to-1-roi-per-day-527395

And the aggressive bullshitter bcmine has deleted most of his self moderated nonsense.

Yet another support group has sprung up on FB, Bitcoin Trader Customers Association. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1567827110107443/
It is just another band of disparate and desperate people trying to make some sense of what has happened.
Whether "Brandenburg" and Opperman are being deliberately obstructive or not, there is little to go on in terms of finding John "Mr. Big" Carley.
I think that their encouragement of the ludicrous lost at sea theory can be seen as buying time or a red herring, not helpful in any way.
