The funny thing is, though, these HYIPs have been around for ages - but it is only just comparatively recently that they are moving into the Bitcoin scene - obviously, like a lot of other people, because they have seen something new and exciting and thought "I can make money out of this".

I get the feeling though, that they have forgotten one thing - Bitcoin has a community, and people that will speak out again and again to warn others away from things like this.
There are "traditional" HYIP forums, where people discussed these programs (Bitcoin related or not) - but they are heavily moderated and often supported by ad money from the admins of the HYIP programs. But the people posting there are very aware (usually) that they are taking a massive risk, and it's really just all a gamble - they don't really go out of their way to point out (what should be) the obvious, to the noobs who turn up expressing an interest. In the Bitcoin community, people WILL take the time to do that.

In some ways these new Bitcoin-related HYIPs are more insidious, because they are preying on a new pool of people who most likely haven't been targetted by HYIP admins before. Some of them genuinely think they have found a risk-free way of increasing their Bitcoin wallet values. At least with the traditional HYIPs the admins seem to know that, to some extent, they are really just catering to a hardened bunch of HYIP players who are used to taking the wins with the losses, just like fruit machine or card gamblers.

Well said.  This is nothing new or specific to bitcoin, it's just a new arena for the scammers to play in.

Well you make your own decisions in life, you can’t say “if everybody say “ because you are responsible and if you can’t evaluate the risk whit investing in a suspect company whit no address I think you deserve to get burned in orther for you to start think independent and hopeful you won’t make the same mistake twice.

And the company perpetuating the scam deserves to have the worst imaginable punishments cast upon them. Public doxxing, swatting, filing of criminal and civil cases, reporting them to the SEC, using social media to defame their character and family, showing up at their doorstep and challenging them to a duel with pistols are all called for, given the appropriate context is present.

Of course I'd settle for simple prison terms, so long as they get put in one of those "Federal, pound-me-in-the-ass prisons." A justified penalty as well.

If everybody say:
  • No more pre-orders
  • No more cloud mining
  • No more alt coin of the same algorithm
  • No more high yield investment plans (need to laugh at the word investment)
  • No more gambling
  • No more pyramid schemes
  • Yes to reporting to the Police each and every scam
I think the scammers of the world will dry out in the desert and leave us alone.

Too bad people are often blinded by greed.

That is right, agreed.
Unfortunately we all have to learn from mistakes.
I was greedy so I deserved it, "grasp all, lose all"

The funny thing is that people will line up for the next one. I only lost around 80 bucks to this scam but still feel like an idiot for ever being involved with such people. All of us are a little wiser now.

I am coming to the conclusion that most "Put you Bitcoin to work" businesses on the internet are scams.

No shit. Bitcoins cant be created from debt.  Unlike the fiat world, a growing bitcoin economy doesnt create more coins, only mining creates more coins at a fixed rate. Therefore its impossible to expect a % profit from investing your bitcoins, as for every coin you win someone else has to lose one. Where does the loss come from? Not from my cold wallet, thats for sure.

Bitcoin is a commodity, not unlike gold. How often have you seen an advertisement "Put your gold to work, earn x% per day for depositing gold with us" ?

Your investment is the bitcoins themselves.

I dont think you should invest a lot in it. Pay attention to what you do and stay cautious. Websites like these can disappear any time

If that's the thread title website you are referring to, bitcoin-trader.biz, is it nice and comfortable in the cave you've been living in?

+1 on that, how many people would send their gold to someone anonymous on the promise that it would be returned doubled in a month?
This is the 'because Bitcoin' magic effect at work. From looking through the list of BT victims, the majority seem to have come from the fiat world and allowed themselves to be convinced that these patently absurd ROI's can be achieved simply 'because bitcoin'.
Life isn't like that.

this is crazy I was looking up information on how to make money with bitcoin a few weeks ago,
came across Bitcoin Trader in some youtube videos, I was so close to putting some funds there.
I was thinking if its been around for a while then it must be ok,

Consider yourself very lucky.  A friend and myself lost a fair amount of BTC to this sham for precisely the same reason.  We figured if it had been around for over a year perhaps their claims of not being a HYIP had some credence.  Boy, do we feel stupid.

Bitcoin the technology I still believe in whole heartedly, but it's this kinda crap that's keeping 96+% of the rest of the world from truly embracing this thing of beauty.  Leave it to greedy, unscrupulous people to ruin the single most ingenious invention arguably in multiple generations (or at least peoples perception of it).

As for fund recovery, I'll be surprised if we see a single satoshi of our investment at this point as it appears the con behind this appears to be a verteran scam-artist.  I feel bad for both mine and my friends lost satoshi's as well as anybody else that fell prey to this scam but honestly I'm more concerned what impact this will have on the 'general publics perception of bitcoin overall.

I am coming to the conclusion that most "Put you Bitcoin to work" businesses on the internet are scams.  If they had a profitable business model, there is no shortage of Venture Capital money to fund operations.  If they have to crowdsource 20 dollars per share, chances are the business model is "take the bitcoin and run" or "Collect huge salaries and live high on the hog until we file bankruptcy."

Does anyone have any updates on the situation with our money?  Has anyone heard from any law enforcement agencies or anything?  I only know this forum for finding out what's going on with trying to get everyone's money back from Bitcoin Trader.

I reported to the IC3 but haven't heard from them still and it's been over 2 weeks, wondering if anyone also reported their situation to them or another international investigative agency.  It seems the more time we wait the more likely we won't get our money back, is anyone doing anything to find out the facts of all that happened with BT since it shut down?  I'm still 20,000$ out and have to pay back my debts, so I really would like to know if anyone has heard anything.

Thanks,
Tim

Best to make peace with the idea that your money is long gone.   In the unlikely event that it is recovered, there will still probably only be 40% on the dollar anyway, as in a ponzi scheme most of the later money is handed to the earlier investors.

Sorry Tim for saying that, but just if our money are in Russia all those law enforcement agencies are use useless.

This thread has got so funny.
Imagine a legit investment company sending "reps" onto the internet to tell people "It's not up to us to prove we aren't a ponzi - you guys have to prove we ARE a ponzi!"

 Cheesy

So has Esoteric Investments posted anything whatsoever to show they are carrying out legit business yet? Any tiny little thing which might just hint that they aren't exactly the same as BT? Because it seems to me that, if a company WAS carrying out any form of legit business, it would be very easy for them to post a little something to prove it. Imagine the PR boost that an investment fund, offering 5% return per month, would get, just from revealing something which hinted that they were above board? After all, there are hundreds of schemes like this, appearing and disappearing every day - and not a single one has EVER managed to show they are carrying out legit business. What reason on Earth would there be for a fund NOT to do this? Even if they weren't already being regarded with heavy skepticism?

If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck   It must be an ostrich, right?

If anyone suggest otherwise, they just quack even louder and more fervently.

Edit.
Bitcoin doesn't belong to any one, it's ours, even criminals can use it but criminals are and always will be the minority.
The same as bitcointalk.org love bitcointalk because of freedom of speech, love bitcointalk because of IGNORE button.

bitcointalk is becoming the talkgold.com of crypto currencies. No credibility at all.

If that's true, it may have something to do with the number of shills on here who would recommend and pump ebola if it made them a few coins.

Yes, probably.
