It's interesting, it appears to me that people are more willing to donate BTC than actual money in some instances. Perhaps it's because BTC feels less real? Or perhaps it's just easier? I dunno. Sending 5 BTC to someone, say an app developer, seems easier and less actual money than sending the actual cash. Anyone else see it that way?
Obligatory: Bitcoin is actual money.
To my experience, the valuation is quite the opposite. Most people value their coins more than they value their paper cash. It has to do with difficulties in getting Bitcoin, and the prospect of future exchange rate increases.
In my opinion, the reason we see a lot of donations going around is because this is a
community formed around a new kind of
money that is
easily transferable, all aspects of which cause inclination to donate. It's more like a tradition.
