that's right, bitcoin and altcoin are connected. if bitcoin moves up or down then the altcoin will follow it.

but there are some altcoins that move on their own and do not follow the movement of bitcoin. but it's only a few altcoins, most of them move according to the bitcoin movement.

Altcoins are following BTC and there is a strong correlation in that regards. When there is bullish market alts has the potential to rise faster than BTC but on the bearish market BTC is falling less then the alts. For example ETH lost a lot from it`s market share compared to BTC. ETH price was 10% of the price of BTC in January 2018 (ETH 1k $ vs BTC 10k $) and now that ratio is 3.2 % only..

sometimes it is nice to re-visit someone's point of view couple of years ago. i wonder if the op already understood whats happening in crypto market. bitcoin is still the leading one and guiding the market trend. eth follows bitcoins price. but a strong platform hard to beat.
they have their respective purposes in this crypto community. so both are essential to exist

The two coins you have to hold because it's at the core of a few other coins, Bitcoin and Ethereum have different platforms what you say, but so far it's a bitcoin that many people hold.

It's really hard to make conclusive conclusions completely. I think it can only be understood like this. Bitcoin and ETH are completely different and oppose to the platform. ETH also influenced according to perhaps Bitcoin is a currency in advance and it is a price-regulating currency as well as having the largest market capitalization in the crypto market.

Sometimes it happen the way you think but there are time that the rivers is the case. Although, is most cases any time Bitcoin market value increases ethereum value also increase only on a rear occasion that rivers will be the case.

Yes this should happen i think to most altcoins, if bitcoin goes up also the price of altcoins goes up but ussually happen that when bitcoin price goes up the price of altcoins goes down, i think most of people sell their altcoins for bitcoin and this cause the drop on ETH/BTC pair.
