I'd be curious to find out exactly how long after this thread was started that the OP was banned. (just makes me laugh the trouble some spamers go to, get registered, start a thread, post ~~die anyway~~ and still get banned...)

First thing you need to if you are hoping to rank up in the forum is to make yourself as knowledgeable as you can. You cannot be someone who posts constructive ideas without having those knowledge first. Afterwards, you can start posting and start analyzing how the merit system works. Before, activities are the only requirement in order for you to rank up but now that the merit system showed up, it is much harder to increase your rank. We cannot hate on the merit system, it is an effective way to assure that only those who are deserving should rank up and those who do not take things here seriously should stay on what they are right now.

You should have find the thread about ranking up instead of finding this thread which is useless for you to find and post just that line. This thread is created 3 years ago and you just bumped it.

Consistency and constructive posts that are relevant and important are very important in ranking up.
First thing is to move from the level you are (newbie) and to another which is the jr member, then you plus up from there.

everyone you see at the legendary level or others started as you are starting right now, so you need to emulate their footstep and ask questions on what you don't understand.
Ranking up is not easy but it is Achievable, so just

Technically, you specifically need to receive 1 Merit to rank-up to Jr. Member (see the rest here: Merit & new rank requirements), which is trivial to manage really with a minimal effort and some search and reading capabilities.

In addifion to this you need to have a certsin amount of merit too to get a higher ranking, this starts from the "member" rank. You will need to have activity 30 and at least a merit of 10 to grow from "jr. member" to "member" for instance.

That's correct. If we joined early (2 year before), may be we could get senior member rank easily.
Now, it seems so difficults to earn more than 10 merits even for one year contribution.

This is the most important thing on this site.
You could have read the forum before asking how to rank up to get higher bounty reward or anything else a higher rank is needed for.
Just simply ask in any search engine:
Rank up bitcointalk/rank bitcointalk.

For improving your rank you should have certain number of activity and merits. It's very difficult to earn merit now. You have to share knowledge like a pro to earn merits.

Merit is used for rank promotion.

maybe making a weighted thread can also make you get Merits from the readers.
