Off-topic : You have mentioned in that thread about Satoshi's views/words and Mike Hearn mentioned about using HTTPS over HTTP, so will this feature come again - sending to IP via HTTPS protocol?

That's basically what the payment protocol does. You click a link like:
bitcoin:1NXYoJ5xU91Jp83XfVMHwwTUyZFK64BoAD?r=https://www.coinbase.com/r/invalid
And Bitcoin Core negotiates a transaction with the URL at the end via HTTPS. It's very similar to IP transactions.

This is reminiscent of Satoshi's old proposal for strengthening IP transactions, though it relies entirely on HTTPS and doesn't actually use the provided address for verification, so the security is probably better in general but worse in rare cases where the URI was gotten securely but HTTPS isn't secure.

I guess that mods can see that

Why do people assume that mods are God and can see or change everything?

You have a picture of a kitty cat. I feel in my bones that I do not like you *growls*

hahaha!!! Post of the day right here dogie!!! I did not expect to read this as I scrolled down.
Also---have you ever used the secret tester page for your guides??? They always look perfect.

I prefer Zakir over Muhammed when mentioning me!
I like old UI, simple and clean. I hope it will be used again.

I also preferred the overall look of the old UI, though it had far fewer features, and I've heard that it was more difficult for programmers to work with.

So I think there was no option other than a new UI.

That GUI is nowadays called wxBitcoin because it used the wxWidgets GUI framework. After Satoshi left, no one working on Bitcoin wanted to work with wxWidgets, so Wladamir wrote a new GUI using the Qt GUI framework called Bitcoin-Qt.

you used to be able to query someone running QT via their IP address and the node would reply with a fresh address to send to. I believe the feature was disabled in an early version of QT because I believe of DDOS concerns

It was removed in https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/pull/253. See https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/pull-remove-send-to-ip-address-and-ip-transactions-support-9334.

1) I don't believe that secure IP-based transactions are possible. The internet has no API to confirm that you are the real owner of an IP address. This would need to involve your ISP.

2) We already have bitcoin addresses, why would you complicate it by having mulitple kinds of addresses? What inherent advantages do IP transactions have that hash-based transactions don't have?

3) Also if you really want IP based transactions (or other forms of address shortening) they could be implemented as a secondary service apart from the P2P protocol. I see no advantage to having this as part of the main protocol.

There is another page I am trying to find that shows you a list of what topics online users are looking at, I cannot find it right now though.

wow!!!

can you explain better this secret folder???
i can see pdf and images inside.

thanks...

The first folder appears to be old files back from when Satoshi was the main administrator here. I believe: https://bitcointalk.org/oldSiteFiles/images/screen3.png is a screenshot of Satoshi's Bitcoin wallet from 2009, showing a payment to an IP address rather than a Bitcoin address, which was a feature included in early versions of Bitcoin Core that was removed for security risks.

The second folder is a copy of the first test posts on bitcointalk.org, which were made by satoshi but later deleted.

never thought that there is such thing to send it to an IP address, well im new so i guess there is alot more hidden in this forum
PS : that simple UI of bitcoin core is very nice

do you think he was using testnet blockchain???

maybe???

I don't think so as the address is main chain address and isn't testnet address. An example of a testnet address is n1frwMAk5HDCAZcSeyXnFktaAgwAe6jEfi. Testnet Genesis block : 000000000933ea01ad0ee984209779baaec3ced90fa3f408719526f8d77f4943.

An interesting thing about that screenshot is that it must have been made on a different block chain. The dates don't match up with the current block chain.

I think Satoshi didn't wanted to mess up before making it public or at that time. I couldn't find a post/site mentioning abou this(if it is true).

Thanks for the link, Blazr! I like old UI, simple and clean. I hope it will be used again.

is there any link for login and logout activity?
I would hope this would not even be tracked. Logging this kind of activity would only reduce the privacy of users of the forum and would make the forum a bigger target for 'big brother'
We don't need that..
I guess that mods can see that

Admins can, regular staff/mods can't.

Cheesy Exactly. Our powers and activity pretty much consist of moving threads and nuking spambots  Cheesy.
