For those that are curious.  The R4B4 miner is pulling 937-939 watts at the wall.  The power supply is a Corsair AX1200i.

Just got my R4 today and both chip temps are running HOT!  Chip temps 108/120.  No HW errors.   Huh Embarrassed

how do you turn the darn thing on ? i bought two to resell locally but i cant figure out how to get it running lol

Can you describe what you have done so far?  Did you remember to plug in the mobo connector to your power supply and loop back on the pins so that it will power the miner?   Huh Grin

oh doh you have to power up the PSU using the pin trick I'm a n idiot

Um, go to Bitmain site > support https://shop.bitmain.com/files/download/R4%20User%20Manual%20.pdf and RTFM...

manual says nothing about a power switch , i have it hooked up to a brand new 1000 watt PSU all 7 pci-e slots and nothing happens

I'm seeing:  Chip 1: 101/77   Chip 2:  80/103  Room temp is 78 deg. F.

Wow that is far hotter than my batch 1 which is overclocked to 9.3T at similar room temperatures. (61/88) (66/89)

How did you overclock?

If its a Batch 1 then you overclock it like any other antminer, change the freq in the advanced setting page of the GUI.

Just got R4B4 up and running, and so far all is a-ok!  Interestingly enough, I still see a wide temp difference on one of the boards-
87 and 85 on one vs 87 and 104 on the other-
But so far 0 HW on both, which is very different from my other droid R4B2...  She's heading to the Great White North to be hosted @ cryptoboreas which I need to do since I can only keep 1 miner running @home for both electrical and matrimonial reasons! Happy wife = happy life!!

If you ask me what pool to point your hash towards, I'd say kano.is.  I consider it to be set and forget; can't beat having kano-san and -ck, literally the guys who wrote the book on miner and pool software, running and chiming in on issues related to the pool.

Looks like my R4 will be here tomorrow.  Looking for pool recommendations for the new rig.   Grin

My R4B2 has the same strange temperature readings - one at 98C, the others are between 55 and 70C.  Interestingly, looking at the HW numbers I get twice an order of magnitude difference: 7 vs 140 after a day.  Guess which one has the higher number?  It's the board with the two lower temps...  Other than that it's been hashing fine no issues (knock on wood).

I have my R4 standing up on end, btw.  Don't know/can't tell where the higher temp reading is actually coming from inside other than it's Temp 1 on Chain 1.

Anyone else seeing similar temperature readings on their R4?

One of the boards in my R4 is having some issues.  It needs to be restarted every few hours in order to hash, otherwise my rate falls down to 4TH/s.  One chip temp reading is way higher than the rest, at 97 while the others 3 readings are around 65-75.  I'm guessing this probably has something to do with it.  Any advice on how I should proceed?  Bitmain wants me to send the entire unit back at my cost, which given the expense and time involved, has me thinking that I'd be better off keeping it as a 4TH miner and cutting my losses considering the unit never functioned properly.  Especially since they'd probably deny my claim because the first thing I did was remove the boards to see if there was a loose heatsink.  Any advice?  Should I send the malfunctioning board in for repair?  Should I try buying a new controller to see if that is the issue?

Did you try  asking bitmainwarranty?

Most likely it is best to just mine with 1 board if you have to ship entire unit to China.

I would think it is 200 to ship it.

I just got an idea.  How many people are in your spot.

If  you and a guy just like you put 2 good boards in one machine and 2 dead boards in the other machine.

then send the dead one to china   it would allow for constant hashing with 1 full machine

and only 1 shipment to china.  so shipping to china is ½.

it would actually save bitmain  as they would only need send 1 machine back to the usa.  I think they pay for return shipping.

So I ask bitmain  would you allow this.  It helps everyone involved with the exception of fedex/dhl/ups

If they would allow that, then they'd allow just the boards to be shipped back.  They don't do that because they'd rather play warranty games and screw people like myself that check for loose heatsinks as we've always been asked to do in the past.

Bitmain should just be honest.  There is no warranty.  In the event they ship you a broken unit, you have to pay the costs to get it repaired, you are out uncompensated time for not having the machine, and by the time you receive the repaired unit if it works (so far they're 50% with returning me still broken parts) they're already selling them for less brand new.  Rather than a pretend warranty, they should just ship their miners with an extra board and controller as that would probably be cheaper for those involved than having to ship their units around the world on the customer's dime.

I really hope BitFury comes to the home market in 2017...
