The only thing I see that is reasonably priced is the new PSU at 300 bucks....(or am I incorrect on that as well)

but $1300 bucks for the hash on this R4 don't cut it...

The colohub hosting we have they shut off their spondoolies sp35's as not being eff enough anymore and they probably have 4c kwh elec..also they have to keep
the whole place at 62F so part of the shut down is ie ..space heater vs what you are paying to air condition such...but anyway

so .anyway for what these spondoolies units go for on ebay (with built in psu) vs what you have to pay for the R4 with a psu...well...

pretty slim difference.....maybe if you were in Texas and had 4c kwh and it was in the garage...or basement or something.

but in the hosting field (with the heat output vs a/c and the say 4c kwh price) all I can say is the racks are being taken down as we speak

of spondoolies/bitmain S5 and maybe S7 as we speak....but they are putting up a lot of ether rigs by golly Smiley

I think its still a mystery why people are taking down the S7`s . They are the miners who finds blocks, not the S9 with BMMiner.
I did take down 50 pcs S5 and 50 pcs SP20e to make room for S7`and S9 and im not jumping on the wagon with the R4. The price/TH ratio is just plain stupid. If buying for 10k you get 80TH on the S9 and only 61,65TH on the R4 !!!!
Why on earth buying the R4 then ? Loosing almost 20TH, just to save on noise, or should we say Loosing 2500,-$...
Damn, for 1/3 of that price you could build a silence room and fill it up with Server PSU`s and S9`s...

Brinning back Home mining, my ass...... Its a freaking joke !

Unless the cables are sturdy enough for splitters, which if they're 18AWG on the PSU I wouldn't trust it too far.

can we use one APW5 to power two antminer R4? i am in 220volt so should be generate 2600watt

I believe you will have a shortage of pcie cables.

You suck, Bitmain.

Can't say I blame you. Good luck!

This is how they make more money selling mining gear than actually mining.  I do appreciate that they still sell gear.  I do loathe their warranty and epically poor warranty repair service.  Still waiting to get a board back.  And I think a quiet miner is genius.  But even for a fanatic (like myself), $1400 is insulting.

Back OT, even if shipping is zero on checkout, that only saves $140USD for me (+maybe whatever brokerage UPS might add). Still not attractive on price for me. If closer to the teaser $1k USD Bitmain posted before opening sales of the R4, sure.

And I might add that aside from the s1 I have always been a batch-1 buyer.

Yep, that's been the winning strategy for the last year or so.

I am so disappointed.

I was really looking forward to getting a few of these.

I'll look forward to reading the reviews from those of you who did shell out the extra coin.

And; hopefully, a price drop soon.

EDIT:  Phil -- are your board failures from a specific batch?

No one miner is a batch one. It mined for 65 days.

The other miner is a batch 10 it mined for 10 hours.

A third miner is flaky but would be a batch 3  not sure if it is going to lose a board.

At finksy.  The warranty length of 90 days and the fact that getting it honored is hard to do are both wrong.

I can live with high price for the gear although this item should be 1000-1100 with a real warranty say six or nine months.

Not a ninety day that is not easy to,get.

I purchased lots of gear from them lots and lots of gear.

S1 s3 s5 s7 s9 over 85000 usd .
I have 1 replacement s-1 issued I have a 150 dollar under hash adjustment.
I now need two replacement boards.
This is over three years of purchases and more then 75 pieces of gear.
I showed many ways,to use their gear and I have helped them this way.

But now looking at two dead boards and a flakey third one.
On low clocks never over clocked never run at high temps. I see warranty length and service as huge problem
Why buy gear that dies fast and you still can get the warranty?

The price is fine if it had a real warranty.  but sadly an item that won't break even for about 400 days and how long is the warranty?

Oh I now have a second dead miner board.  so 6 units 18 board 2 dead boards.

I still like the gear .
I like that they sell gear.

The price is not the issue the warranty is a real problem.

Unfortunately without real warranty protection these are almost certain to be losing items.

I completely disagree, they are both problems.  They could have a 10 year warranty it wouldn't change the fact that they are SCREWING customers on warranty claims, even if you have done everything by the book as the customer!  I'm quite surprised they haven't extended their warranty yet, laughing all the way to the bank every time they send an email out denying warranty based on false claims on their side.

Bitmain,

I would like to thank you for increasing the price of these from your original plan of $1000.  It made my decision that much easier NOT to support your dishonourable company, and the shady practices that go along with it.  Keep up the great work, you are safely eliminating mining competition every time you release a product or deny a warranty. Until someone else comes along...

Also, they don't even have it listed in their China site: https://cnshop.bitmain.com/product.htm I guess they are too embarrassed than to try to put this one past their fellow countrymen.

re Philipma: I've never had any hints of your issue at the farm. Ja your setup works but I'm talking about getting PROOF of skimming. As in just where that boards hashing is going if not to your assigned pool where the other boards are pointed.

Would be nice to figure it out, as I said I am not quite sure if it is diverted hash or a dying board or something in the middle of that.

Not sure what you mean. The whole card is an individual string, and each card is individually addressed at the control board.
That's what I wanted to know. Only whole board is tasked. I'm on Skype with Opieum2 and the CompSi Master on the issue of some folks having -- odd -- hashrate dropouts eg Phillpma. As in a whole board seeming to be feeding a shadow pool.

That aside, I though electrically the chips were powered in several paralleled banks of series strings. No?

Get a cheap  router DSL

Do this modem ----- original router ------ cheap router.   The phantom s9s with a different password like rootfuckyouhacker.

If all boards pop back up I would be suspecting some diversion.

Although it could be that is the first sign of a board dying and the board will die in a week or so..

I am pretty much ready to go a bit nuts over this gear.

But I now have a second dead board and it came from the mystery drop out miner.

There is one more miner that was dropping a powered board it works now but my gut tells me it will die and I will end up with three dead boards out of six miners.

pattern seems to be mystery hashing  all board used then a vanished board
can be restored behind second router
but now  one seems dead
the other shaky.

and of course the one bad one  never did  this it just went xxxxx  then 0 then zip powerless

My guess is there are stages of death for the boards not a mystery hacker.

Oh no reply on second board as to where to send it.

and no info on board one which they have had since weds.

I am not a huge player  but 85,000usd  in direct business since December 2013 should be worth something.

I never thought I would be forced back to gpu mining but I now run 20 gpus and 470 mh  mostly due to the warranty service of bitmaintech.

What kills me is I want an r4 but 1400 and 90 days for  a warranty is no deal for me.

Yeah, a wider node is better for stability since differences in voltage based on difference in current draw through the chips is averaged out. Worst part of a string is the weakest link issue where the worst-performing chip sets the voltage for the whole thing. That's why there's so much bottom-end performance variance in undervolted boards.

Which, one of these days I need to get ahold of some S9 enough to work on a good snap-in undervolt solution. I suspect it'd also work on this R4 just as well.

Dinna know that. Good to learn something new Wink
Makes sense in that since Vcore si divided between all the 3-chip nodes any differences in voltage between nodes is averaged out nicely. Guess I never just did the maths: Assuming a Vcore  supply of 10v/21=476mv per node. Right in line with expected chip Vcore range...

Not really, no. Each board has 21 nodes of 3 chips. Comms go from chip to chip at the same node, then from the third chip of one node to the first chip of the node above in a continuous data path of all 63 chips. You take out one chip, you take out the whole board. On S1 and S3 you could take out one chip and all chips before it would keep hashing, but you know if you interrupt the current in a string topology the whole thing shuts down.
