Just received confirmation. My 2 Z9 biggies shipped out 3h ago!

Here's to hoping no 25% customs tariff!

Just received notice on my first 2, also. Should have 1 more from the 2nd batch.

-j

if you are in the USA and bought 2 Z9s, you can pretty bet on getting the tariff. get your checkbook ready as those two miners combined are thousands of dollars that will not be unnoticed.

There is probably not much to say if ideology and political preferences are posted in a thread

Yes agreed.  But fact is fact

Bitcoin Talks Bullshit Walks

Welp, this is a costly lesson is why not to buy from Bitmain.

i think we all need to face the reality that we're the ones that are doing this to ourselves. remember that bitmain only made the miner. we all chose to buy it and increase the difficulty on our own. everyone wants a piece and therefore pushes the difficulty up and therefore less to go around. in short, we're our own demise.

in the long run, whether it be asics or gpus, it will be a battle of attrition. the ones who can outlast the rest will win. as people turn off their gpu rigs, it increases profits for the other gpu rigs that are still on. same goes for asics as well... the question is who will give up first.

another analogy... gun manufacturers make guns. we buy guns (both good and bad people) and use the guns to hurt other people... so is it the gun manufacturers fault or is it us? i know there's a lot of variables and great depth of discussion here but the fact is that we do it to ourselves.

another scenario... market value and trading... if sellers would just hold strong on their sell books and not panic-sell, coin prices won't drop. of course buyers want to buy low but if seller won't budge, then buyer will have to meet it or the price won't move and that's okay. again, a lot of variables and depths of discussion but the fact is we do it to ourselves whether by choice or consequence.

just my opinion. take it with a grain of salt.

Is the gun manufacturer using what it manufactures for themselves to benefit themselves by shooting people?  Hell NO!!!

Is the ASIC manufacturer using what it manufacturers for themselves to benefit themselves while harming others?  Hell YEAH!!!  How are they harming others they sale their products to?  By competing against the very ones they sale hardware to by manufacturing four (4) units with the money they are paid from only one unit they sale.  They keep three of those four units for themselves to mine with and take their sweet ass time getting out that fourth one to the buyer.

Not an excellent comparison.  The gun manufactures are lettin the citizens do the dirty work.  Causes five more to want to buy a gun.  Still very dirty pool.  Plus nra invites hates and violence and thinks the only way to solve that is with a gun.  No one has time to talk it out this day and age. Fucked up world only gonna get more fucked as time goes on!

How are your gains mining with GPUs? Perhaps getting some FPGAs instead?

I am mining on Flypool: 1,691 (100%) / 0 (0%)

What is your room temperature? I do not let mine go above 27C (80F). You have to consider increasing the fan speed, I think.

Room temp around 20-23°C but I forgot to install the fan so it sucks the air out instead of blowing. now it is really 10°C cooler.
Do you have 0 discarded shares?

yes, I do.
1,594 (100%) / 0 (0%)
Since the last (accidental) power off of all ASICs

can you post the whole "Pools" window? Mine looks like this:

Pool    URL    User    Status    Diff    GetWorks    Priority    Accepted      Nonce#    DiffA#    DiffR#    DiffS#      Rejected    Discarded    Stale    LSDiff    LSTime

HW   0                     NaN%   0.0000%

Summary:
Accepted: 6,189
Discarded: 26,274

I get paid properly the last days but I think that so many discarded shares must be bad right?
Also I had to lower 650 to 637... 650 suddenly went unstable but temps are now 56-60°C.

I have to admit that I did not pay attention to discarded shares. Someone said in ZCASH Reddit: "I believe this is normal. Check your estimated payouts based on Accepted shares and it should line up with a profitability calculator."

I am comparing my profitability with the one listed on
https://whattomine.com/asic
and
https://www.asicminervalue.com/

and it looks OK for me.

By the way, I earn ~ 0.27-0.28 ZEC /day with three Z9 mini (I was getting ~ 0.16-0.17 ZEC/day on one Z9 mini in June)

I think the z9's 1st batch will start shipping this weekend.  From what I gathered in the way they said delayed when I kept asking that's what I got out of it.  Either Saturday or Monday it will start shipping.  Just a heads up for everyone.  Pretty useless now anyways I almost could care less when it ships.  It's delayed, they failed, they fucked all of us.  Whatever we all lost money now. lol

Hope you're right regarding the ship time.

As for the profitability, I'm hoping that the reports of the batch 2/3 minis not overclocking well are due to binning of the chips that are going into the batch 1 biggies (sorry batch 2/3 mini buyers), allowing the biggie to be overclocked to 55-60 ksol/sec. If not, will be a long(er) road to ROI

I'm not one to immediately bash a company but in this case I'm frustrated by Bitmain's business practice and ethics. Batch 1 buyers paid $3319 for a 10 day competitive advantage in difficulty compared to the batch 2 buyers (who paid ~$3184 I believe) and are completely losing that. I think the ethical thing to do would be to refund the difference in cost between batch 1 and 2 and ship them all out at the same time. Always a gamble with new releases I suppose

My batch two mini's seem to be working exactly the same as batch one. I've commented on:

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.45611806

with everything I did from start to finish if anyone's interested.

you got lucky. enjoy your victory. perhaps you got some leftovers from batch 1 that was thrown into the mix of batch 2. batch 3 is very iffy with some reporting perfect 750M OC while others say 500M and nothing else.

...snip...

Lots of misinformation in this thread. I wanted to share my experiences.

I bought 18 z9 mini's from the 2nd batch and they arrived on 8/31. The 2nd batch ASIC's will not go up to 750Mhz or 16-17k sols like the first batch. The best you're going to get is about 675. I have all mine set at 650, except for 2 of them that each had 1 ASIC that would constantly fail at 650 so I detuned it to 600.

You can easily overclock on the stock firmware, just not from the web UI. You have to change the default password away from root/root in the web gui, then you are able to SSH into the miner's linux command line. From there you can edit the bitmain-freq value above the default of 500

root@antMiner:~# tail -5 /config/cgminer.conf
"api-groups" : "A:stats:pools:devs:summary:version",
"api-allow" : "W:0/0",
"bitmain-use-vil" : true,
"bitmain-freq" : "600"
}

... or just use the frequency change function in awesomeminer to do that for it. Smiley

Unless you have bought the pro edition, you can't.
