at 1275watts is it now ok to use something like a EVGA Gold G2 1300watt?
Been Eyeballing 1600watts ones but 1300 is liek 150$ cheaper Wink

you'd be pushing it pretty hard.

easy solution is to underclock the S9 slightly, such as to 13TH - which would reduce your PSU load by 100W

Under clock a bit more to 11.5th. The 1300  g2 will work fine..

Then figure your math. You save 150 on the psu. But lose 2000gh to 2500th.

At current diff that's about $3 per day before power costs. So probably 100+ days ROI on that difference alone... I'd say if one already has a 1300W PSU they should probably underclock. If buying new - I'd buy a server PSU anyway.

It is all speculation, but you do have historical average to see what may happen in the future.  In 2010 did you buy Bitcoin at pennies on the dollar?  Buy now, it will appreciate in value.

Unless price of BTC doubles in short order after halving ( http://www.bitcoinblockhalf.com/ ) of Block rewards early adopters are screwing themselves paying these initial asking prices for S9.

Curious to see what the S9 will be selling for in August.

$1985 though... not a good price at all

Edit: 153.52 per TH/s vs $150 per TH/s for Batch 1. And shipped a week later. Ouch.

Fahget about it!

I think you guys missed the power consumption of batch 1 1375 and batch 2 1275.

If you calculate it u will see that B1 and B2 are equivalent.

Efficiency is the same, but price per TH/s is higher on the later shipping batch which is a step backwards.

You would expect the efficiency to be better so long as they have reduced the core voltage, which they may or may not have done? Or they may just have done som simple maths on the change?

Rich

My understanding is that B2 is essentially a "clock frequency reduced" B1. Maybe it's more than that, but I don't expect so, hence no efficiency change.

That's correct but I don't think anybody expected the efficiency to be different. The price should have been lower considering later delivery. All other things being equal Batch 1 owners will have 8 extra days of more profitable mining. It will be interesting to see how it compares in real life though when things start getting delivered, what's the next diff jump, etc.

isnt it lower power cuz its lower frequency?

Currently testing an S9 on Eligius if anyone is interested... Will let it go for about a half hour to get some data.

UPDATE:
30-Minute Test Results:

Also testing on the NastyPool p2pool node.  You can see the live chart below (click it if it doesn't update).

How in the world did you get one to test?  Thanks for the results overview.

If you want it at a good price, wait until about September.

Yeah I'm done wanting anything from Bitmain. Just an observer now. Perhaps will grab one or two miners if they price them right but not holding my breath. September might be correct.

I'm in the same boat. But it feels good to be an intentional bystander instead of an addict this time.

It's like being an alcoholic at a bar watching everyone else get drunk and not being tempted.

For the right price though, I'll fall off the wagon.

Call me waiting to get drunk too then.

I am estimating that we will be on batch 5 by September.

Just a question, wouldn't it be more profitable for bitmain to sell cloud hash power of these new S9,s first?

My AR-15 ID's itself as a toaster. Want breakfast?
I won't order one until the price reaches ~2BTC.  That seems more than reasonable.  These will replace all my < S7 gear; and ill sell that stuff for pennies probably just to get rid of it or get a hobbyist going.

Plus I want to see where this model's freq and hashrate will be consistent for several batches...  Don't want to see an early batch fiasco like the S7 had.

Ill assume as well in short time a -LN model will be out like the S7.  One can hope....   Makes sense since they did it with the S7... but maybe they are holding out to get max efficiency out of the chip model..  its anyone's best guess there.
