Has a decision been made on what's going to replace the Google OpenID login?

Google OpenID Connect will take over for Google OpenID 2.0. So you won't notice much, I'll just update the website a bit.

But I'm wondering if I should support OpenID Connect in general or begin slowly phasing it out in favor of user name and password (with support for 2-factor auth).

Why some times there are zeros at at 1 TH/s?

When a block is found the last 10 shifts get paid. This means that if it takes a short time to find blocks some shifts get paid many times. If it takes a long time some shifts don't get paid at all.

If you mine 24/7 this doesn't matter, 1% of the pool hashrate still gets you 1% of the coins.

If you keep coming and going the short shifts we have now means you could get zero pay or extremely high pay for a couple hours of mining, and then you leave again. So since the shifts were made shorter the luck element is now stronger for part time miners. I understand some people mine part time, for instance if your electricity price changes depending on the time of day. I will make the shifts longer once we have a larger portion of the global hashrate again. They were made shorter so that it won't take a whole week from you do an hour of mining until it is out of the last 10 shifts and fully paid.

realy?
Why shall it be replaced Huh
Doc?
I have a side question also. It might be answered already but I missed it.
When I login in shifts I see

Completed   Duration   Difficulty   Pay/Hour at 1 TH/s   Total Thps   Your Ghps   Your work

2015-01-04 18:47   2h 46m   40,640,955,016   0.00000000   1,754.2   2,765.0   6,425,600
Why some times there are zeros at at 1 TH/s?

Thanks doc
Ps I am mining non stop here

That's almost as LUCKY as you may see, that's 1 in 417 LUCK.

Yah, but we're rolling the dice all day every day, it's like pointing to a string of sixes and saying those were unlikely.

Pop quiz, you roll 6, 9 times in a row (Standard 6 sided die) what is the probability of the next roll being 6?

Reminds me of a song Once in a Lifetime By Talking Heads

Same as it ever was...1/6

Actually, what happened is 3 times LESS possible than having your car stolen this year! :-)

Be careful out there.  Cheesy

But yeah, that was lucky. Good start on the new year. Smiley

Call me crazy....but I can't quit mining.
Over the last 14 months its been all scrypt on GPU's and small asics.
Around 4GH on each.

Got bit by the BtC bug.
I tried cloud power and have 500gh on Zencloud, doing ok.
But I love the sound of fans.

Finally got a chance to setup the Antminer C1 yesterday.
Cool running, now i'm looking for a home for it.

Any pool running this long with this many supporters must be doing something right.

Been mining with BitMinter off and on for nearly two years.  At least in the short term, however, we are looking to pull the plug on our mining operation.

We've posted our 6+ Th/s equipment on eBay in case you're interested. All equipment is actively mining on Bitminter.

Gold and Platinum rated power supplies also available separately. Let me know if interested.

well little guys find it tough to wait for a block.
and if you moved up a bit to  1 or 2 th it was costly.
I think the euro miners are just quitting due to power cost.
My in house setup maxes at 4-6k in the winter and about 2 k in the summer.

Even with 9 sp20E's and 1 s-5 I can only run them under clocked. I can do 12th and that does not earn 1btc a week if a pool is a bit unlucky.

power cost for me is 565 usd a month 4 coins = 1265 so I am clearing 700 a month if I get average luck.

Very tough to mine if your power is 15 cents  a kwatt or more.

Milestone: we now have 300 000 registered users!

According to the stats pager there are about 2000 users currently mining.  Does this mean there are 298 000 registered users who are inactive or at least not currently mining at BitMinter?

Yes. It's cool that 300 000 people have used Bitminter. It would be even cooler if they were all mining right now. Tongue

Makes me wonder how many people are mining bitcoins right now, globally.

5600-6000 on BTC Guild during any given shift in the last week.  It's a bit harder to tell these days because I know there are some people *still* trying to mine on CPU/GPU, and due to increases in minimum difficulty they only get a share in once every few hours.

It was closer to 10,000-12,000 about 6 months ago, if that's any indication of current mining trends.  The pool speed is up, but the number of mining accounts in a given shift is cut in half.
