Now, I will also be using this on my MacBook.  You mentioned that laptops have weak USB ports - will this be a problem?

I'm not sure. I just know a lot of people had trouble with block erupter sticks on laptops, and it worked when they switched to a desktop machine.

I'm running a red fury stick on my macbook right now though and it runs just fine, even when running on battery.

I get the feeling that people who use ASUS and Apple have fewer problems with hardware that doesn't deliver according to specs. Not sure if it's true or I am getting brainwashed. Wink

The guy who gave it to me sent me a link for drivers.  :-)

Is this on a laptop (weak USB ports) or a garbage USB hub? Almost all USB hubs, even powered ones, are garbage.

The problem with the erupters is usually to get them enough power.
Advice on good hubs: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.2998466

The problem can also be that you are missing drivers. Does the COM port go away when you unplug the device? Or is the COM port from something else entirely?

ASCIMINER Block Erupter.  Actually, I didn't buy it so much as a guy was getting rid of his old hardware.  I know it's not the best option out there, but I figured it would get me started.  :-)

It is scanning the COM port, but it keeps saying the device times out.

This wouldn't be because I have other USB devices plugged in, would it?

Okay, I'm having a problem.  I just got a USB bitcoin miner, but when I run Bitminter, it says "no external devices detected."  When I try and rescan, it keeps trying to scan the serial port, not my USB port.  Is there any way I can get it to run off the USB port and the miner I have plugged in there?

Which device did you buy?

It's scanning COM ports because that's how some mining devices communicate, using a virtual serial port over USB.

Normally you can set work submits per minute from 1 to 20. With the easy mode perk you can set it all the way to 40. Setting it higher causes the server to choose a lower difficulty for you so you submit work more often.

The minimum difficulty is entirely up to you.

The reason you can freely increase your difficulty but the ability to decrease it is limited is because low difficulty creates more strain on the server. Having fast ASIC miners mining at difficulty 1 is a no go.

Got it now, so the Minimum Difficulty is what you say it shouldnt go below and the other you just explained ;-)

Minimum difficulty
Work submits per minute Default

So for someone like me starting out with  4 333mhs asics should probably just leave default and leave it there as I increase asic count since default is usually the best.

Well, if I wanted to give me the best options for earning as much as possible, should I just leave the perk unchecked ?

It's not for increased earnings, it's for decreased variance. There is some info on difficulty, work submits per minute and easy mode here:

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.3142713

So is this an automatic thing because I keep trying figure out what worker field its for but everything I set saves without telling me I need the perk and this is the only field that makes sense telling a value of 1-20 needs to be set and saves regardless of what I set overide as without the perk.

Edit: Allows you to mine at reduced difficulty by setting a higher than default target for proofs-of-work submits per minute

Is there a con to this perk ?

Mining at lower difficulty you use more bandwidth.

Also, it seems the worker setting minimum difficulty isnt tied to that perk of I'm playin with the settins wrong with stuff already set lol. Either way I'm sure you can straighten me out heh. Just trying to fully understand the potential of everything your offering.

1x BitFury Red Fury USB (BF1)

I am working on the red fury support right now. It's taking a bit longer than I anticipated.

Hi All.

I have an iMac (OS 10.9) with a mini rig (10 ASICMiner Block Erupters mining coin dust) and have just obtained a BitFury Red Fury BF1 USB unit. I am having real trouble getting the BF1 to work - I can see it on the USB device tree using 'System Information', but my BitMinter client does not recognise it. I assume I need an equivalent 'USB to UART' driver like the SiLabs one that was required for the block erupters, but can't find an appropriate one anywhere. Does anyone know how to get a Red Fury USB miner working with BitMinter under OS X?

27' iMac, 3.4GHz i7, 32GB, OS X 10.9.

Stupid question but how come you dont have something like this on the site for namecoins that shows what I assume is the uncashed out balance for said user.

Mine some namecoins and all will be revealed. Smiley

I havent even done anything or your site yet and I already like you lol

Just to restate in case your one of those read last reply only people:

If you use an rPi and Mine Peon to mine for BitMinter please post, Ty.

Edit: Allows you to mine at reduced difficulty by setting a higher than default target for proofs-of-work submits per minute

Is there a con to this perk ?

I'm still looking over your site for info on how to add wallet addresses for payouts as well as a good namecoin wallet. For BTC, I got a mobile wallet on my phone.

For cashing out use the auto cash out, it's under "my account" -> "account details" in the website menu.
