Bitmit is currently saying that "1 BTC =19.29 USD "

While that would be lovely, it's not matching up with the current MtGox rate.
They are probably pulling data from BTC-e, which seems to have been hacked or something.

I am quite pleased with Bitmit. It is growing so much each day, great job.

I sold my first item on there last week and received my bitcoin.

@Bitco, I am sorry for this.  Yesterday we migrated to a new server and a bug in the OS prevented the fetching of the exchange rate from Mtgox. However it is fixed and exchange rate is being refreshed every 30 minutes. Furthermore our new rate source is http://bitcoincharts.com/ instead of only mtgox.

Besides of that the ssl certificate is valid in all browsers now and we are glad to kick off a Polish and Spain version of Bitmit to you today!

Can you update your exchange rates more frequently?  When the price of BTC went from $9 to $8 yesterday, I suddenly had very eager buyers for the stuff I had listed in USD, and I lost money on the exchange rate.

Otherwise, I'll have to drop the buy-it-now option and only list auctions.

@allten, yeah thats a good idea. From now on you will be warned if a user has not enough positive ratings, disabled escrow and no ID verification. Btw: Here are some new FPGAs with escrow: http://www.bitmit.net/en/q/?q=fpga

You Don't Bitcoin 'till You Mint Coin
There is a lot of BFL hardware for sale on bitmit right now.
The demand for these among the community are high given BFL's $ for $ trade in.
However, on all of the listings, escrow isn't available, the seller has no ratings, and the seller is not verified.

I was in the process of buying another single and here is my story:

There was a really good deal on a single and didn't think twice before I bought it.
Then it occurred to me that escrow might not be enabled on the order, but the information was no where to
be found. For the lack of information I was about to assume that escrow was enabled, but thank goodness
bitmit sent me an email giving me a courtesy notice that it was not. Anyways, I now know this
information is on the listing before you buy it and I'll watch for it next time.

Suggestions:
Maybe send out an automatic notice with the purchase indicating there is no escrow and the responsibility is 100% on the buyer.
Also, the bitcoin address could have a huge bold disclaimer in red next to it that it is not an escrow purchase and the disclaimer repeated again.

New:
HTML Tag support for item descriptions. You can enter the tags by yourself or use our new tiny editor.

The following tags are supported:
Code:
b,br,i,p,ol,ul,li,div,table,tr,td,th,tbody,hr

Html attributes (style, onclick etc) are not allowed and will be removed! In contrast to ebay I decided to strip every single line of javascript, too Cheesy

I just realized the plated gold bars actually say "clad" on the face.

You can easily get such gold plated bars on ebay. To my surprise some sellers even do not mention that it is only PLATED with gold. However, I do not see any problem with that one on Bitmit because the seller described it clearly.

Update:
Minor style / css improvements
Improved compatibility with mobile devices
Fixed items from/items to dropdown bug

@ribuck, the bug should be fixed now. I have tested it with several machines and browsers. If it still appears on your machine I would be glad to get your browser and OS details.

The problem arises when you or I buy the gold bars and resell them (outside of Bitmit) as real. The buyer that buys them from us doesn't know they are fake. This is one of the reasons counterfeit products are illegal in many countries.

The fake gold bars themselves doesn't have "FAKE" or "SPECIMEN" stamped on them. They are very hard to distinguish from the real deal, if I understand correctly.

That could be true, but when you sell a cz diamond ring it doesn't have to be stamped cz even though its not a real diamond.  It's just illegal to say its a real diamond.  In your example I think the only person committing a crime is the re-seller.  Unless their is a trademark or something on the logo stamped into it.

I noticed someone is selling fake gold bars on Bitmit. Is this allowed? I doubt that it's allowed in Poland, where the seller is located. They can be used to scam people into buying them for way too much, when they assume the bars are real.

If fully disclosed I don't see how it could be illegal.  You can buy lots of things out there that look like something far more valuable, but it's not illegal.  The only illegal part is to actually say that it is something that it is not.

Any chance of fixing the "Items From" and "Items To" dropdowns? They stopped working a week or two ago (on Firefox, Chrome and the stock Android browser).

Yes, just refresh Smiley Note that you can also use the country selector on the right top to apply "items from country x" permanently.
