Curious to know why the Indonesian government is so strict about the gambling industry?
This is a huge country in which about 300 million Indonesians live. And yet they live on 18,000 islands. It would be possible to organize special zones for the gambling industry on several islands. And make them legal.
Is it true that Islam forbids doing this? Then the ban is understandable, but still a pity.
The separation between religion and state in Indonesia is growing thin day by day because of weak leadership. In the past, you can gamble in Jakarta while drinking alcohol, and it's legal. So it's not about religion since I think all religions forbid gambling (CMIIW, I'm not an expert in all religions
). It's about the politics. If the current trend persists in Indonesia, I don't think there will be legalization, whether it's mainstream or for a certain region in gambling anytime soon.
FYI, religion is quite a sensitive topic in Indonesia, so better not to touch that area.
I agree with you. I also think that religion is a delicate topic not only in Indonesia, but also around the world. We will not touch it.
But if earlier in Jakarta, you could play gambling and it was legalized, or half legalized, then why is the government of the country so categorically against the legalization of gambling?
If you make special zones on the islands, and the appropriate taxation is the same as a wonderful source of replenishment of the state budget.
It is not clear?
