2 hour -> 92 errors, 12%

A lot.... I have four usb and the hacked, five in total. 3A power supply, this is the problem? only 3A?

Thanks¡¡

I use a 1.5 r and 16mhz. Alone work fine (a lot of heat...) But if i connect the other four, the hacked one go down. I use 3A power supply. Im prove tonight a pc power supply and comment.

Error¡¡¡ I´m using a 15K resistor¡¡¡¡ So heat, lot of errors, slow speed¡¡¡

Change now for a 1.5K and see errors... seven in ten minutes at 440mhs.... and more heat.

It´s possible that the errors and heat is for the 1.5K resistor? Better 1.2K?

Thanks¡¡¡

Thanks. This post https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.2662693 said there was a minimum £20 order, although I can't find that on the site. Then I'm looking at about £60 for the hot air, solder pump, solder and flux. So I just thought for 7 sticks it's not worth it. But I do really want to give it a go (I'm a geek) so I might just waste my money for the fun of it. I'm undecided so I'm opening o bottle of wine to think it over.
Ic. Yea, it's not worthwhile to get the whole set (hot air gun, pump, paste and flux) if you only using it for 7 miners...

how is your setup?
what cgminer version?
are the 440 mh/s the 5 seconds or the avarange value?
cause with the 5 seconds value i also get 440 mh/s but avarange is only 380 mh/s.
i did set --icarus-timing short=90
but same result...
but my settings must be ok, cause the others have 333 mh/s.
i also use a 16.000 mhz oscillator and a 1.3 k resistor for r1.
BFGMiner 3.1.4 with Raspberry Pi
All time average.
I'm using CGMiner 3.4.0 on my laptop for testing and yes, u need to specify --icarus-timing short instead... Or it's just 360-380MH/s..

yes I did. it took a bit longer as the heatsink does absorb some of the heat but it still works.
Something noob I did when I'm heating the R1 resistor... I used the hot air gun to heat up the R1 for like 5 mins but it still hard like rock... Puzzling me alot and I even increase the temp to 350... Burn until the 7500 number disappear from the resistor... Then i found out... I am actually heating up the marble table instead... LOL

With 16mhz is necesary change the heat skin? Or only with air can work?

Thanks¡

I currently have 4 sticks running at 16Mhz at full hash of 447Mh/s with no changes to the heatsink. (I didn't even remove it to do the soldering.)

current temps are around 37deg C with ambient around 16degC. my 13.5Mh/s units are around 32degC. I have a 23cm desk fan blowing air across my miners.

it seems to work well.

so no you don't have to modify the heatsink.

Lot of thanks for your reply. You use air solder to do that without remove the heatsink???

couple of questions,

are you running 3.4.1 or more of cgminer?
if its lower instead of short=90 just use short

are you getting the timing messages on the console?
they should look like this

Quote
[1970-01-02 04:01:31] AMU0 Re-estimate: Hs=2.644221e-09 W=6.478300e-03 read_time=9000ms (limited) fullnonce=11.363s
 [1970-01-02 04:01:32] AMU5 Re-estimate: Hs=2.976544e-09 W=5.147984e-03 read_time=9000ms (limited) fullnonce=12.789s
 [1970-01-02 04:01:32] AMU1 Re-estimate: Hs=2.232191e-09 W=5.452528e-03 read_time=9000ms (limited) fullnonce=9.593s
 [1970-01-02 04:01:41] AMU4 Re-estimate: Hs=2.646204e-09 W=4.020525e-03 read_time=9000ms (limited) fullnonce=11.369s

above AMU1 is running at 16Mhz, AMU5 is stock and AMU0,4 are 13.5Mhz

if your not getting these messages then the timing isn't working.
Also give it a few minutes to settle down with timing as it has to work out the best values. I would suggest wait until around 100-150 accepted hash's

but having said that. 440Mh/s is pretty close. but all of mine do run at 446-447Mh/s after 5 minutes to settle down.

edit: as you can see the average is almost there but the current hash rate on each device has been correct for about 100 hash's now.

anyone in the UK offering this as a service ?
i know ill just screw up if i try this by myself.
How many do you have? I was thinking about giving it a go but I've only got 7 sticks so with the cost of buying equipment and parts it doesn't really make sense, the only suppliers I can find here in UK sell crystals and resisters in bulk. It looks relatively easy to do....... but I haven't actually tried it yet so that's easy to say!!
This might help... http://uk.farnell.com/txc/7c-16-000mba-t/osc-16-000mhz-3-3v-smd-5-0x3-2/dp/1842022

What type of power requirements does this place on the USB hub?
After overclocking, my watt meter only increase by 1 watt...

My share of overclocking the USB miners
Tools I used
1) 2nd hand rework station - 50 SGD (http://www.ebay.com.sg/itm/Atten-858D-Rework-Station-hot-air-gun-/271268369349?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_216&hash=item3f28dad3c5)
2) Precision tweezers - 0 SGD (got it from someone. alternatively, http://sg.element14.com/duratool/1pk-118t-f/tweezer-heavy-duty-160mm/dp/3127667 or http://sg.element14.com/aven/18072ezf/precision-tweezer-115mm/dp/1631182)
3) One set of multi screwdrivers - 0 SGD (found it in house)

Components
1) 16MHz crystal - 4.91 SGD (http://sg.element14.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?sku=1842023) I bought 3 of this
2) 1.2k resistor - 0.007 SGD (http://sg.element14.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?sku=1646379) I bought 100 of this
3) soldering paste - 39.09 SGD (http://sg.element14.com/chip-quik/smd291ax10/solder-paste-63-37-183-deg-10cc/dp/1850223)
4) soldering flux - 7.97 SGD (http://sg.element14.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?sku=1925200)

Total spent for accessories (one time cost) = 97.06 SGD
Total spent for upgrade 3 miners = 14.75 SGD

Now 3 of my miners are running @ 440MH/s +

To buy
1) Heat sink - 1.29 SGD (http://sg.element14.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?sku=1773353) After overclocking, the heat is really untouchable if you do not have active air flow. This heat sink looks like it's a clipon
2) Helping hands - 8.33 SGD ( http://sg.element14.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?sku=3973104) Really helps when doing heating...
