I've done a cost / benefit analysis on the 821 and 841, and they are both far better than the 741 for power usage and hash rate.

How can one do a "cost / benefit analysis" without knowing the cost? Asking for a friend.

I think he just calculated that (7.3TH/s divided by 1150 Watts) is less than (11TH/s divided by 1200 Watts). But yeah... obviously.

If anyone is willing to pay the price for the 821 (they will), then it doesn't matter what the actual ROI is... the fact that a more efficient machine is mining the same currencies immediately reduces your earnings. This is why you can't just decide to fill a warehouse with Avalon 6s to avoid buying Avalon 8s.

It's not the efficiency that matters, it's the overall hashrate being added to the pool (and the timing of it being added) that affects earnings. Network difficulty is what drives earnings, and network difficulty is a function of network hashrate.

Efficiency affects NET earnings quite a bit, unless you have free power available in a capacity greater than you can afford to buy miners to fill up.

Difficulty affects net AND gross earnings as well - specifically as it is a function of *time* and hashrate. It's very possible for one machine to be much less efficient and still be more profitable than another machine simply because it is available sooner. Profitability calculators are mostly bullshit for a number of reasons, not the least of which is they don't accurately model difficulty over time very well.

Damn blokforge is starting to annoy me.  They just pushed the 741 / 821 order date a week, to January 2, same time.  I've been emailing with someone at blokforge, and they are limiting everyone to 2 miners of any model.  Now I got to wait ANOTHER week, DAMMITT!!!!!

I've done a cost / benefit analysis on the 821 and 841, and they are both far better than the 741 for power usage and hash rate.  I don't know why anyone would waste money on a 741 at this point.  And ebay prices are simply ridiculous.  Those commie bastards at Canaan jacked the price to insane levels.  I'll keep trading bitcoin on the highs and lows, add my tax refund, and buy a bunch of 841s in a few months.

Current pricing for the 821 is $1850, Canaan has it commented out in the HTML source code on that page of their site so it does not show yet.  Looks like they are trying to squeeze every penny out of the 741s.

1850 Huh?!!!!!! the reseller pack (60 miners + 60 controller + 60 power ) = 174 K$

so a working unit = 174/60 = 2900 $ for the reseller + shipping fees + profit for the reseller = NO WAY 1850$ the unit

Can anyone get into the blokforge.com website today?I've been trying sporadically over the last 2+ hours and get no where (Connect Reset).  I was looking for some definitive news today, but am stymied by the website issue.

Clear your browser cache and reopen it. Been working all day for me.

Other than the 821 being better than the 741, I don't believe any of the rest. And there is no comment in the source code about the price of the 821.

Wtf are you on here just lying to everyone?

maybe, but if BCC continues to be more than a viable competitor of BTC, that may keep the difficulty down somewhat

 Do you mean BCH?

BCC is some minor altcoin on it's own algorithm from a couple-three years ago.

I’m not so sure that the 741 miners from this batch will ever be able to pay for themselves. The difficulty factor is going to skyrocket in the next month or so when the 821 batch plus the new S9 batch plus the E9++ and E10 batches all ship at the end of January. When you look at the price of this 741 batch in that context, they do look pretty overpriced 😑

If you resell them on eBay, they will. Lol.

The 741 is definitely over-priced, but they will sell out of them because we have a lack of options and the big players aren't as affected by the increase in price (although they're not likely looking to purchase miners that are already beyond their end of life.

You brown-noser! You just want to earn brownie points for Blokforge, haha! (Wish I had thought of it, lol).

They also have a small forum where you can ask questions. They've been very responsive so far. It's great to see another distributor serving North America.

Wish Bitmain would get on the distributor train...

Oh Didley, lol. Just extending that Canadian courtesy south of the border, haha. Glad everything worked out for you this month.

Also they did update their price for the 741's I saw this morning it says 1450, so it matches up with what Canaan's site says.

I'm sure they'll be sold out within minuted on the 26th, so anyone who wants one don't forget.

While the price is too high for 7.3TH/s, it looks like Canaan is controlling distributor pricing, which is a very good thing for us.

But yeah... I wasn't hoping for MORE competition trying to get a couple on the 26th, lol. So thanks...  Tongue
