Nature decays, but Latinum lasts forever. RoA:102
Interesting that while the funny business happened Vampirus went from 5th on the richlist to 23rd.  Sent his CAPs somewhere for something...

Yes, I sold 50% of my balance, but it was November, 3.

Based on hourly volumes, cryptopia lost 18M
I think need make hardfork and  generate in one PoW block 18M coins, then create checkpoint. After that Tranz send 18M to cryptopia.

May the force bit with you.
...
I thought with pow/pos you would need 51% of both pos and pow to attack.

No, you only need to be able to generate blocks faster then the main chain, in your own private side chain. Then introduce those blocks into the main chain after you have sent funds and traded them. This will cause orphans that will back out your transactions that were sent. Just have to be sure you shut off the wallet that sent the funds, so it will not roll back and re-send like the rest of the honest clients. Then you restore from backup and re-sync to the "new" main chain. Wash, rinse and repeat.

Here the thing guys. I have very little vested interest right now in CAPs. I own less then a mill.  A fork will such as this will take many many hours to code and coordinate. And even with a higher confirmations an attack is still possible due to the lower difficulty.  Unless the checkpoint server is revived.

I'm not looking for a hand out. Just being realistic here.

I would much rather have someone else get their hands dirty, and I will help guide and review their work.

I agree with the Fork/Credit Cryptopia option - I'll donate Ej12gGJWgUXjvHrMkt9kwjhM8tVY9PUfA7 to your existing stack to allocate as you wish to whoever ends up getting their hands dirty. Additionally, PM me and I'll cover the VPS for the checkpoint server.

Thank you!

I will try to find some time to figure out the best way to fork and credit. I have some ideas but getting a workable copy that all clients everywhere can agree on could prove difficult. But we'll see. Absolutely no promises on time lines or even if. But I will give it some of my current brain allocation.

Can someone reach out to Cryptopia and figure out exactly how much they are down? Also if they will give it, the CAP address used to deposit the funds and the BTC wallet used to withdraw.

I'll check back tomorrow or Friday.

Here are the raw transactions that are stuck in memory pool likely some are from the attacker.

Fork it and keep it moving. Also might as well give CAPS a bit of an update. Post the VPS resource requirements so people can see what's needed.

I'm sure someone with some slopping could figure out where the coins were sent and by whom.

Not much I can do to help.

Options are:
- To roll back the chain past the first attack. We are looking at a loss of multiple days, most client will have issues will cause a lot of stress.  But damage is already done.
- Create a fork, that will credit Cryptopia address the coins that were lost. Assuming they were the one targeted.

To prevent this, we need a checkpoint server or much higher confirmations and difficulty.

I can run a checkpoint server, but I can't foot the bill for a VPS to run it. So I would need the community to help with that, or I can give the key to someone else to run. But if that someone does not understand the security, responsibility and how to safety use it, it could kill the chain.

Blockchain looks fine.  Network weight of 8 million looks adequate to maintain the network security.  It could always be better higher.

Block # 3259909

Also, looking at the last 100 blocks created, no problems.  Last 500 blocks don't seem concerning either...

I may be missing something but I do not see evidence of a 51% attack.

You never see 51% attack in explorer, if not forked, small fork 1 - 100 blocks just create orphans. I did it in some coins, for testing not for profit, all missing transactions was  resending automatically after microfork.

For attack not need create big new chain, only more 20 blocks (number CAP Cryptopia confirmations) and attacker can repeat it many times.
Admins from Cryptopia not understand how each coin works, they have 20 confirmation for CAP and 200 for HYP, but it must be conversely.
HYP can't be attacked such way.

Ya. I pressed cryptopia for the reason why there was 200 confirmation on HYP and they said 51% attack and that we should secure the network. There was no evidence that there was any attacks. After pressing them further for details, they said there wasn't any attacks. The lower tier supports got all antsy and just said they don't have time to tell us how to secure the HYP network and closed the ticket.

My conclusion was the correspondence wasn't going to go anywhere and there is no point in arguing with lower tier (children as their support - the price of growing pains for the exchange I suppose) so I pretty much decided to work within the confines of the 200 confirms. A bit of an inconvenience, but doesn't change anything, it just means that you have to leave more coins on the exchange to facilitate trades and market making.

We should be obvious that it's hard to ban bitcoin when it's used by many individuals on a global size. If, in spite of all this, governments decide to impose strict guidelines and  penalties to users  then unfortunately apart from the obvious, ie losing money individuals they have bitcoins in their purses the most important innovation, after the discovery of precious metal, is going to be lost. You shouldn't be scared is almost impossible to agree all government authorities.

As I say before CAP have many problems, but you all vote NO to my proposal. One of problems was easy 51% attack, and someone made it today on Cryptopia.
Now CAP may be delisted.
CRYPTOPIA :

Market Paused

8th November - Investigating 51% attack

....WTF Huh

So where is evidence of this attack?

I see no evidence, we are all still on the same chain that's running strong

I smell sneaky Ferengi Shenanigans.

One play to get people to buy his sells another to get dumps into his buys.

Hey that's 1987th rule of acquisition. FUD them till they buy or sell. as long as you profits.
