Unified WBA and IBF World Super Bantamweight Champion Marlon Tapales to Watch Ringside for WBC and WBO Super Bantamweight World Championship Bout: Stephen Fulton vs. Naoya Inoue in Tokyo, Japan

Not technically related to the fight but just want to share some side news here.

The current WBA and IBF World Super Bantamweight Champion Marlon Tapales will watch on the ringside of this fight together with those big names behind his success, Manager Jim Claude Manangquil and promoter Sean Gibbons of MP Promotions. I wonder if there will be a big announcement at the end of this fight. Smiley

It's anticipated by most that the winner of this match between Stephen Fulton and Naoya Inoue might face Tapales next in another big unification match.

Honestly, I'd rather see that undisputed 122 lbs match right away next instead of a title defense.

If I'm not mistaken, it was agreed that Marlon Tapales will indeed face the winner of Inoue vs Fulton fight for unification.

Marlon Tapales set for undisputed clash vs winner of Fulton-Inoue

So it will be great if he will be there to see the fight and probably will go up in the ring after the fight and challenge the winner for the undisputed 122 lbs.

Akhmadaliev will have to wait though, maybe he will go on another title eliminator fight before getting a crack again on whoever has the belt.

There doesn't seem to be any kind of formal agreement that guarantees him that opportunity, the WBA is just making it easier for them to negotiate that fight. A fight with Fulton would be easier to make since MP Promotions has a partnership with TGB, PBC's de facto promoter. I couldn't imagine Naoya turning down the opportunity to become undisputed and for Tapales it means a career high payday so I hope it won't be too complicated to negotiate that fight and we will have a single champion by the end of this year.

It will be a pleasure and an honor for Marlon Tapales to get himself in an undisputed clash regardless of who will win in the Inoue-Fulton fight because not all Filipino boxers will have that kind of opportunity to be in that stage to have a unification fight, even Donaire himself didn't made it. Moreover, I already expected this to happen where Tapales will be fighting for a unification fight.

It's an honor to step inside the ring and try to unify all the belts in this division. We never know what will happen as the chance
of winning is still possible whoever will win against Inoue and Fulton.

I mean, Tapales will have that equal chance to unify all the belts and if fate decided to favor him, then it's a great
accomplishment that he may have achieved

And because of that, expect him to earn a lot of money and to continue making more.

Marlon Tapales will definitely have this time and share the ring with either Fulton or Inoue. Both are going to be a big task for him but it seems that he is riding high on a momentum win and getting a belt in the super bantamweight.

So yeah, he will have his time and hopefully he can accomplished it.

The best thing for him right now is to really watch the fight and his team coming up with a good idea on how Marlon will fight whoever won.

Regarding the fight, Inoue said that he is pump up for it, so that is a bad sign for Fulton.  Grin

Usually that's why the potential opponent is going to watch the fight live, he is not there to be entertain, but rather see it have either Fulton and Inoue fight and maybe his team can try a strategy or see some weakness that they can exploit.

Indeed, not as viewer but more on a researcher, together with his camp they will be able to find some exploit weaknesses
from both fighters, and they will be able to prepare in case the said unifcation will be deal out.

Watching the fight will give Tapales camp a first hand experience of how Inoue fight and it will greatly enhance their perception in analyzing the videos of previous fight of Inoue.

Quote
And I do believed that it will be a setup, that once the winner is announced, Marlon is going up in the ring maybe and ask for a fight.
We will know that after the fight, it's interesting to see him announcing his willingness to unify all the belts.

It is really interesting if either of Inoue or Tapales announce the interest of unifying the belt and become undisputed champion of 122 lbs.

Quote
So we will see, I"m seeing a lot of media coverage for this fight and maybe in the final stretch, they will do everything they can to reach fight fans so that they are going to watch this fight.
Yup, media hypes will be expected after the fight, they will attract more viewers to watch out for the next scheduled fight.

Inoue's road to unifying the 122 lbs titles is really a hot trend since he just recently unified and became a undisputed champion of 118 lbs so it is not surprising that the media is fully in attention to this fight.  This is the first step of Inoue's goal of unifying the 122 lbs and the mass media is very interested if he can make such first step.

I believe there is a reason why Marlon Tapales will watch the fight live up close, apart from having the first hand experience to know Fulton and Inoue's strengths and weaknesses, it is still about business because regardless of the result, organizers are already expecting an undisputed fight up next while the hype is still there, especially if Inoue will be held as the new champion at 122 and defeated Fulton.

Better for him to watch his possible next opponent for unifying all the belts in this division.

Watching the fight live will give him a hint on how the fighter execute their strategy, and that will help him to plan and
develop a good possible counters.

In terms of Akhmadaliev, any possible chance that he might pair with Casimero? I mean maybe Him and Casimero
it's a good hype for both of them if promoters will push that possible no title match up fight.

That is a good idea as we all know that Fulton and inoue will give their best and show their strategy and techniques so for Marlon tapales it's better for him to watch this fight clearly in person so that he can gain more hint like what said above. And once he can do that then after that fight he can start for his training to counter the strategy of the winner of this matchup and it's helpful for tapales if he can do it so that in his fight he can counter and have a chance of winning.

We will see, Fulton is going to public and says that he is not afraid of Inoue's power. So maybe they have a game plan on how they are going to play with Inoue's power or exploit his weakness if they have seen one already.

So the champ is very confident in his ability. Because if not then he wouldn't travel to Inoue's country.

And speaking of that, I saw video clips or at least news that Fulton is already in Japan and most likely he is trying to acclimatized himself already.

That's what some of Inoue's opponents have mentioned before their fights. They initially claim not to be afraid to face him, but once they experience Inoue's power, they often change their strategy and focus more on surviving the fight rather than aiming for a victory. Hopefully, we will witness a different scenario in this upcoming fight.

I cannot even blame them Grin They tend to underestimate the power of Naoya Inoue because judging from his looks, he seems so innocent that he cannot even throw a serious punch to his opponent and his build is not that buffed to be considered monster just like his alias. But all of that was just a ploy to deceive Inoue's opponent because he knew right from the start that his looks are not that scary but when it comes to brute strength, up to this date, nobody can catch up with him.

His speed is well coordinated with his power punches. The looks might be deceiving.

as he really looks like an innocent young fighter which you won't think that have that has both speed and power, his timing
and his capabilities to absorb his opponent's solid punches.Something that really gives him that edge when he starts fighting
inside the ring, Fulton may need to review and study every single detail with how Inoue execute his strategy, counter or
find the best way to avoid. That's something he needs to figure out.

On this fight, I have the same thoughts as with you. As I have said, I'm seeing Fulton as trying to get very tough and will want to proved that this is his division. He might run though and will used his boxing IQ and try not to fight toe to toe in the beginning. That Figueroa shows that Fulton too has heart and will not go down easily so let's see if he can do that and last the distance against Inoue here. Yes, lots of fights this July so it's really hard where and who to bet to, maybe a good parlay will do as well.

If Fulton have the reach advantage then it would be the smart move to strike from the distance avoiding face to face confrontation because we all know that Inoue is a devastating boxer especially when he get his opponent in his range.  The body punch maybe the huge factor here so if Fulton can withstand these body punches then there is a huge possibility that he maybe able to outmaneuver and outbox Inoue.

As per their record,

Fulton's reach - 70½″ / 179cm
Inoue's reach - 67½″ / 171cm

And Fulton is taller by 1 in. So he has the advantage as far as their physical is concern. But we all know that Inoue has the advantage of his power. So Fulton will have to play smart that's why I'm seeing that he might used his boxing IQ and keeping Inoue at bay with his stiff jab as he has the reach here.

Fulton can also go to a brawling match, again based on his fight against Figueroa but it will be a bad idea for him.

Forget about that reach advantage as Inoue has already fought taller boxers before. In fact, he KO'd Donaire in his last fight and the latter was tall and even quick but Inoue showed his dominance. So Fulton is no difference IMO, although he is the champion and Inoue should respect that, but as a fan and judging who had the advantage, I'd say overall it's on Inoue.

Yes, that factor will not be an advantage to the champion in this fight anymore because Inoue already have his own share of experience when it comes to fighting boxers who are much taller than him.

What Fulton should equip is the proper defense to keep up with the monster's vicious punches that are really quick, by Donaire's words, it will be too late if you see those punches as that time, you are already hurt because Donaire personally experienced that.

Even Donaire himself thought that he can still make a difference in the rematch, but Inoue did an unexpected where he left the crowd surprised after he finished the fight in mere two rounds.

It's very different if you really see first hand and feel the power of Inoue. And I'm sure those who give him the monicker is telling the truth as he has a good KO percentage.

So most likely the same case with Stephen Fulton, he could be hyping himself here. But it's going to be different when they are just the 2 guys standing in the square ring and he can't avoid the power punches of Naoya Inoue.

He will be testing his capabilities as he's the current champ from this division, so what we expect from him, He might be hyping
his name, but for me that's should a fighter react.

When you are the current champ and a challenger is challenging you, instead of old of avoiding you should be preparing and should
willing to take that call.

I believe that we can only conclude this once there's already an outcome, though the edge might be in the side of Inoue..
Fulton has the talent no doubt about that, he fought against a very game Brandon Figueroa and I thought that he might be losing in the judges scorecard, there is one judge who score the fight a draw. So it means it's a very close fight.

And maybe that fight really established his mentality that he can defeat anyone even Inoue. So he is brave enough to accept the challenge and then willing to travel and hopefully he will go toe to toe as others wanted to see him do in this fight so that this is going to be a big test on the side of Inoue.

I somehow feel that Futon could give Inoue a tough fight, but it never crossed my mind that he would actually defeat Inoue. In all of Inoue's fights, he has never really struggled to secure a victory. If it doesn't end in a knockout, he usually wins by unanimous decision. Therefore, I don't see any significant difference in this fight, even though some people speculate that the move to a new division might affect Inoue's power.

Yeah, maybe it will be a big test for Inoue, or the other way around for Fulton. But in the end, if might end on Inoue's way, we might even say that if Fulton can go to the distance against the Monster, if will really tell something about Fulton's heart and character and he is not like the other boxers that Inoue face that says a lot during the pre-fight promotion and then just folded in half during the fight either quit or getting knockout by the power of Inoue. I also think that Inoue can still carry his power north of the bantamweight.

Good point on Fulton being inactive, but I think he can overcome it though, sign of great boxers, so for sure he might have adjusted already.

On thing is that this is the first time that Inoue is going to 122 lbs, so that is only the big question whether he can cope with the weight or it's going to be a big plus for him as he will not have to weight drain just like in 118 lbs.

So let's see if Fulton will be the first one to give Inoue that big L on his record or Inoue continue on making history in boxing.

I wouldn't question Inoue's capacity. Even if he may not be as dominant as he was in the bantamweight division, I still believe that in a close fight, Inoue will come out on top. Judging from Fulton's past performances, I think Inoue's quickness will be able to counter his style. In the end, if the fight goes to the judges' scorecards, the boxer fighting in his home country will likely be given the win.

Yes, that is very likely but I wouldn't want to see Inoue winning in the hands of the judge's scorecards especially if the fight is close enough because it will not be a good image for him as people will just see that he was given a favor because the fight was contested on his country. But I'm kind of confident that it will not reach into the judge's decision, no offense to Fulton's fans, but just like you mate, I've also reviewed some of Fulton's fight and I can somehow say as well that Inoue's swiftness and power can do the trick,

I go with you. I also want to see a KO. Knowing how powerful Inoue was, I wonder if he will attract Fulton to engage, and they will have
a toe-to-toe confrontation

The chance of seeing Fulton kiss the floor is really possible; we just need that engagement, and we will enjoy this fight.

Nothing against Fulton, as he's the current champ, but if ever a confrontation or a toe-to-toe exchange of punches takes place,
The chance that we might see Fulton receive his first loss.

All will happen in the right time as long as Stephen Fulton is willing to engage and have a toe-to-toe confrontation with the former undisputed champion, Naoya Inoue. I know that the latter wanted that to happen because he missed that in his last fight because that was just a survival fight in the foe's part as they knew right from the start that they had no chance in winning against the monster.

And in this fight, let's hope that Fulton will give us the entertainment we wanted so that we can see a full packed fight before he leaves the division and climb the next weight class.
