Not me just realizing that this useful site has been getting attacks in the past few days. The timing is weird, though. Why now? Why not during the previous bull run or something like that. The fact that the forum has been getting frequent downtimes in the past few weeks as well could mean something.
You hinting that the government it poking around?

@suchmoon ibminer or anyone else associated with Bpip, get your butts to work!!!! Kidding of course, I just read the last few posts and wish people would get a life.

Have you considered other donators?   I could host a copy of your website on a round robin DNS; at least take away 50% of the traffic.   Since you maintain exclusive control to the data, it shouldn't be an issue.

Thank you for the offer but this isn't organic traffic so throwing more resources at it doesn't seem right. Need to filter it off as far away from the server as possible.

The strangest part about all this is that I'd expect the hypertroll to be DDoSing BitMixList itself, considering what it's doing to you guys over a single link, but it appears I'm not getting much from my end:

I wonder if its Cloudflare silently filtering out those IP addresses.

Cloudflare says there were two threats, both from USA, between 11 and midnight UTC time, both from ASN AS20473 AS-CHOOPA (whatever that is, it seems to host a lot of spam) and a User agent of Java/1.8.0_332...

How about CloudFront? So far, it's holding up for me.

But some pages are not loading or take more time than usual but homepage is still the one facing attack so it is not coming up no matter how many times refreshing it.

I have replaced it with a dummy page than should now have a link to the real home page but it probably won't last long until it gets attacked too. Unfortunately this will be a long story until the attackers run out of fresh IPs.

Edit: grammar.

The website may or may not be up...

The website may or may not be up... kinda schroedinger's situation we have going on now, blocking around 1 million requests per minute but there is still a bunch that get through so it may occasionally appear running for some users and dead for others. Extension might be more stable, it uses less bandwidth than webpages.

Well, the parsers are still running and updating the DB, so I wouldn't call BPIP completely down... 'tis thorns in the paws of lions. Wink

Yeah looks like DDOS. Not much I can do about that. As I said in the other thread, the forum is full of deranged trolls with nothing better to do. BPIP is only known or useful to bitcointalkers so no one else would have any interest in bringing it down.
Could it be the DDOS started after this post?
by the way - can you or @ibminer update the donators page in bpip
Call me paranoid, but it could be related.

Yes, I think there is a good chance that either the above, or me labeling these fine individuals as "deranged trolls", or a combination thereof might have resulted in this situation. Too much of a coinkydinky.

This thought had crossed my mind as well.

Let them have their "fun", they'll eventually get bored and/or scared of having more of their botnets identified. Smiley

Gee, I wonder whether they are using [banned site] to send you DDoS traffic? Roll Eyes

I meant when you search for something, BPIP is usually not ranked in the list of results, not that it isn't indexed by Google. Smiley
Ah! Got it. Then yes you're probably right (in terms of google searches), there isn't much to SEO on since it is primarily stats and names, there are some topic titles which could have some effect but there isn't much content itself to optimize for search engines! Smiley

My guess is a DDoS or maybe a hung up process in IIS, but I need to wait for suchmoon to confirm, the commands needed to show resource information like this aren't really available on a shell/terminal user account. Server is still partially accessible on my end though, IIS appears running, but everything is very slow. The 503 error sort of hints towards a resource issue, one way or the other.

In fact I don't suspect that BPIP hardly gets any traffic since its not on Google.
Where would you get that idea from?  https://www.google.com/search?q=site:bpip.org

Feel relieved to know that I am not the only one who is facing the issue. Because last time there is similar kind of situation that occured only for me.

It's not just you, the bpip.org server is down and we won't know the severity of the problem until the devs announce what's going on. I saw earlier that BPIP browser extensions cannot collect data from there.

In this case it is not really server maintenance unless the web server had actually crashed. Because you can still update the site while the web server is running.

It's more likely that the web server is crashing, but whether this is due to high traffic I don't know. In fact I don't suspect that BPIP hardly gets any traffic since its not on Google.

Then what could be the issue? It was working earlier in the morning before I wrote the reply. Now it is still not up and I don't think they are closing it down. Only @OP can come and adress this issue of 503 error.

snip~~

I have not got the 502 error message. I am only getting a blank page with 503 error message on the top. I too hope the problem gets resolved at the earliest.
