This isn't the story. This is the pre-story. The real story will come in the next few days and will be called "Why Satoshi Nakamoto Remains Anonymous".

You don't relaunch a news magazine with a fake story.  They believe this is real.  It probably is.

It totally doesn't fit the profile of crypto wizard, who made something hundreds (thousands) fail to do before him. This has to be some other guy.

Can't shake the feeling that this article is indeed a set-up / bait to see what happens or to stir up commotion. Newsweek is relaunching, so this would be a perfect stunt to draw attention to a failing magazine...

No, they wrote a story that could be read "this old guy has $400,000,000 in his unguarded house and here's a picture of if so you can find it easier". Forget his reputation, his life has been put at risk. You can't apologies to a man who has been beaten and tortured to death to tell were his private keys (he never had) are.

1. it's not a revelation, it's an invasion of privacy
2. newsweek think they are more important than they actually are
3. no chance.

Maybe this revelation will help clarify the origins of Bitcoin and thus drive up the price. A Newsweek story will also garner mainstream attention. I won't be surprised to see it hit USD $800 by tomorrow.

I doubt it's him. He allegedly said: "I have nothing to do with Bitcoin any more". If he'd really be Satoshi he'd probably deny it.

There is of course a chance that she just invented that section.

actually that is any media with a story of this size....they essentially have NO info from the guy ... mostly speculation....
so they are taking a probably correct guess this is the guy and hanging him out to dry

i assume they will do the same to the first guy to make a transwarp space drive.....

rules be damned on a story that may get you a pulzer prize (and if he is satoshi they will likely get it for this piss poor reporting)

the truth is ...most of us on here..if he lived next door and was that isolated and fragile and mentioned over a beer he was the inventor of bitcoin..i probably would not have told...hard to tell on someone if you know that it will likely destroy their life

or at least i'd like to think of myself as that kinda person in such a situation...(ie ah hell its no ones business) and give what support you
could with the guy

if the article is true satoshi is like a poster child for aspirger's syndrome (spelling?)...which is sad..this is gonna really really mess the poor guy up.....

again i think if he is really satoshi this is gonna end badly imho...jeez don't even get me going about the IRS checking him out now....even if they are just doing it for the fame....and he has done nothing ..the attention he is gonna get is gonna suck (his alma matter univ calling him up for $$$)

This is a perfectly legitimate story that has a high level of public interest.  I feel sorry for the hell that this poor man will have to endure for a few weeks, but it is not like she accused him of murder or pedophilia which the UK press have done to many innocent victims over the years usually followed by the tiniest of apologies.  A free press can be a horrible thing.
