Circa 2010
To whom it may concern, particularly Luke Jr and Gavin Andresen and the likes:

After btc-arbs down: that concludes my investments in bitcoins and similar crap. I will continue to mine but I will hoard. Just for fun. I will not trade, invest in HYIP, LYIP or NYIP, banks or any other form until you clean this shit.

It is YOUR responsibility to hunt down those scammers and return capital + interest.

How did you manage to come the conclusion that it's Gavin's fault that you lost your coins? All I see is that if you were silly enough to let your greed blind you into 'investing' into this scheme then the only person to blame for this mistake if you. To extend the argument - it's hardly the banks fault if you decide to send all your money to a Nigerian prince offering you a billion percent return per second.

Not to mention that aside from rewriting the code and having the acceptance of nodes/miners (which they wouldn't get) you won't be able to change the protocol in a way that would enable them to return you the stolen coins. Best just to take it as a somewhat costly lesson and move on.

Otherwise BTC miners will be a nice heater during winter, and not sure about the large data centers what are they doing mining junk that is worthless. It does not take millions of megawatt hours to create unite SHA-256 numbers, it is just the game of reverse finding the transaction to a nounce-près with increasing difficulty. If increased difficulty = 0 the whole 21 million BTCs will be created in 5 minutes on my old Ericsson 688 phone. If you want people to play your game you better clean the board. Btc-arbs was a good lesson to me, well worth the money lost, but never again.

Have a nice life.

Some people here will understand what this is telling us.

This raises two possibilities.

  • They've had a config cock up whilst doing something with the site.
  • They've taken the site offline and are preparing to launch a different site from that server.

Reading this it looks like 'webkevlar' has had the cockup.... however is webkevlar = btc-arbs or are they truely a 3rd party ?

All my traceroutes etc hop off an ISP router in Kuala Loompa (apologies for incorrect spelling) and *sometimes* get a response from the btc-arbs server.

Intruigingly, an nmap of their server reveals that the following services are running; the web server has been shut down:-

Starting Nmap 6.40 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2014-05-21 11:14 BST
Nmap scan report for btc-arbs.com (111.90.150.219)
Host is up (0.19s latency).
rDNS record for 111.90.150.219: mail.btc-arbs.com
Not shown: 995 closed ports
PORT     STATE    SERVICE     VERSION
135/tcp  filtered msrpc
139/tcp  filtered netbios-ssn
6667/tcp filtered irc
6668/tcp filtered irc
6669/tcp filtered irc

Of course, this *could* be a clever ruse by someone trying to avoid detection --- ie: has the DNS entry been changed this week to point to an innocent party's computer ?

I don't understand any of this but one thing. There is still a server "online" so there is a 0.00001% that they will come back online, am I right?  Huh Tongue

Investing is a gamble and we should be aware of it. That's it!
again, gambling or investing is not like being scammed! you don't notice the subtle difference?

Of course I do, however as long as they were paying nobody complained here. Now its a big issue -- think Lehman Brothers....one of the biggest scams in history.

If you are unsure about $20, you should not be in Bitcoin at all....
i mine just for fun and with just ONE gtx660, so $20 for me is a lot of money...
i've already lost .044 on mtgox and .05 btc on btc-arbs, it was not funny!
i've no problem donating but i don't tolerate scams, period

Well the site wasn't even pingable yesterday. It is now, but frontend is still down. It was obvious to me that for the past week it was experiencing DDOS attacks. Now you can ping the server. It *appears* they are working on bringing the site back up. When they do, I will withdraw the whopping 28 dollars trickle-transferred from my legacy account.

Odd, I noticed it wasn't pingable yesterday or even this morning, and I didn't even think to try again after this morning, I figured it was all over. But you're right, it is pingable now.... maybe this ugly saga will continue.

I just plugged my monopoly money from BTC-Arbs into http://remitrade.com/?partner=sev09.  Feel free to use my referral or not.  I've only been in a few days, but it's paying out.  You can't withdraw your money until the end of the "investment period", though.  Enter at your own risk.

RemiTrade had good reviews from InstantScamAlert.com, though, so I thought I'd give it a shot.  It's play money, after all.  Smiley
hmmm... daily profit over 1%, little suspicious...
however i'm into bitcoin-trader.biz since the beginning of april (just with one $20 share) never had problems cashing out every ~10 days, but i'm unsure about renewing after the 120 days period....

If you are unsure about $20, you should not be in Bitcoin at all....

Not really. No one really just throws their money out whether it is $1 or $1000. He is just not sure if it is going to stay around long enough to keep making money.

Investing is a gamble and we should be aware of it. That's it!

Sometime I get an internal error (Error 500).

There's maybe a hardware problem?!

Smells more like DDOS attacks have brought the server down....

That, or they want to give themselves another plausible excuse for why they've lost everyone's money again..."Oh no, DDOS attacks, we were compromised, all of your money is gone...even though it was never on the web server to begin with and nobody could have accessed our wallets by doing it..."

True...

Don't suppose anyone has some good leads on alternative sites ?
