is this coin a fork of bitcoin? like.. if you own BTC, do you automatically own BTCD? or is there an airdrop?

Why wouldn't it. It was heavily manipulated and dumped. 1 BTCD worth 50 KMD since you can swap one into another. BTCD is still undervalued comparing to KMD.

We are waiting for authentication keys from a 3rd party - nothing we can do until we get those keys. This is also a security issue. The website will be working after our security expert gets those keys and makes the necessary changes.

I have BTCD on an exchange, can I still swap for KMD if I withdraw now? Or have my coins already been claimed by the exchange?
I am currently syncing my wallet to put my BTCD in cold storage but just recently found out about KMD swap and now wonder if I should bother.

You will have to send them to ICO.komodoplatform.com. The website will provide you with a deposit address. No need to sync a BTCD wallet if you have your balance on an exchange.
After you have swapped them you will have to request a KMD payout. Follow the instructions on Komodo bitcointalk thread.

If not, will the Komodo team have a wallet-full of BTCD ready to dump on the market?
