BTCD html client v0 launches – v1 to follow
The ‘vanilla’ v0 version of the BTCD html client has been released. V0 is a very basic, easy-to-use web browser client, which will act as a template for further functionality. This will be progressively added to upcoming versions, as and when the technology is ready and has been tested.
The primary aim of v0 was to create a UX that was as straightforward and accessible as possible, whilst allowing BTCD’s more complex technology to be added without detracting from that simplicity. The one-click Windows installer is key to getting started quickly, whilst the browser-based client allows for an elegant and powerful GUI. The BTCD community can get used to the new interface whilst reporting any bugs and suggestion further features to include in the next iteration.
InstantDEXThe first major new feature to be added in v1 will be InstantDEX, the near-realtime peer-to-peer crypto exchange that will underpin SuperNET and form a core part of its revenue generation. Since InstantDEX (iDEX) is built on BTCD, it makes sense to include it in the BTCD client first, and the functionality road-tested by the first users. InstantDEX is an ambitious and much-needed application and has the potential to attract large number of new users who are wary of using centralised exchanges.
Jay Nxt framework integrationAlthough SuperNET is built on BTCD, iDEX does not rely on BTCD alone. It also uses the Nxt blockchain for a number of purposes, including collecting fees (which will be paid as dividends to holders of the InstantDEX asset, 24% of which is owned by SuperNET and will form one of its first revenue sources). Downloading the full Nxt blockchain is brings additional and unnecessary storage and bandwidth costs, but Nxt’s 2.0 functionality will be important for other elements of BTCD in the future, including it’s anon tech, Teleport.
The solution is to integrate the Jay framework into the wallet. This provides a ‘lite’ way to query the Nxt blockchain without downloading it, allowing developers to do anything the full client can do without the extra overhead. This should also provide further cross-over appeal to the Nxt community, since the BTCD wallet will be able to handle NXT balances as well as BTCD operations.
