Limited in number. Limitless in potential.
I feel sorry for your loss guys but I guess this will serve as a lesson to our co-bitcoin users here that its not really safe to put our coins in an exchange site because this is not once happened. The bitfinex was the worst.

Exchange sites now are very vulnerable nowadays. We saw hacking incident that ruined every people who use it. You should not put all your goods at the exchange site for a long time. Bitfinex is the current victim of hacking incident. We dont know what will happens next. Maybe another hacking incident will happen anytime.

Was Bter not hacked years ago?  i havnt touched that site in years.  you get one chance and if you cant secure your customers money then goodbye.

It was 2 years ago but they still have issue with the clients because they haven't paid them yet for the amount taken years ago.

I just logged on my account there and "Your password is expired. Please reset a new password at here."

Just reset the password but nothing new on my account. They do not reply back within hours or days, it happened that I waited a month for a random reply from their support.

i cant even sell or withdraw the xc - I hope they reverse those suspicious trades but at least i should be able to sell the xc - this sucks because i dont want to dump mint I'm trying to buy it up now while its cheap not dump when it's severely oversold lol -these trades the hacker made are ridiculous - why wouldnt he just try to withdraw the mint why did he dump it for xc - the whole thing is bizzarre - it's as if a bter insider is using our accounts to pump xc

still no response to support ticket, now it's showing a balance of approx $350
basically the hacker dumped the MINT in my wallet (at rock bottom prices, you can see mint is very low)
and they bought XC
now my account is locked, my mint is gone and I have almost 5000 XC in the account - i never bought xc lol the hacker did for some weird reason

I emailed them but it didn't get delivered, so I submitted a ticket just a few minutes ago. I do not believe my info was taken by a phishing site. I think it looks like someone with inside access.

They issued a "Security Alert" on august 24, and required users to change password as well as enabling google authentication. They suspect it was due to phishing sites from (Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc).

What did support say regarding the missing funds? Have you tried submitting a ticket directly from their site?

This is the "Security Alert", but I don't understand how asking everyone to change their passwords is going to solve the problem. You had to get an emailed code from bter to log in through any new IP since last year. Anyone stealing an account had to already control the associated email address to login, so changing a password won't help.

The whole thing sounds suspicious to me, like bter itself might be selectively stealing funds from accounts. Any customer located outside China would find suing bter difficult, or impossible, and all the "stolen" accounts are from customers outside China.

We recently detected many suspicious user account login attempts and we got several account stolen reports from our users.

Although BTER has a large portion of Chinese users, it's strange that all the affected users are from outside of China.

We suspect that it's related with the phishing sites appear in the English search engines ads (Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc)

or an account list from an English website.

We now require all our users to change the login password at

https://bter.com/resetpw

and the fund password at

https://bter.com/resetfpw

We highly recommend all users to enable Google Authentication to protect yourself from such attack at

https://bter.com/myaccount/totp

Best,

BTER

A day after support ticket still no response except the automated message that they received the ticket

* I see. Sorry to hear that. It's really frustrating when companies like these suddenly ignores client's issues and basically doesn't even reply.
* I hope this gets resolved.
* Have you tried calling them thru QQ Messenger? They seem to have a QQ number posted on their site.
* Good luck! Let us know what happens.

OP, sorry for your loss if what you're saying is true.  It blows my mind that these exchanges get hacked and people lose their money.  You never see this shit with the banks, which have many times more money than the bitcoin/altcoin exchanges.  You would think security would be tight, but it's obviously not.  Don't know if any of them, like bter, make good on the losses, but I would hope so.  I know Gox and Cryptsy didn't.

On August 24, someone dumped a bunch of MINT in my account, and bought a bunch of XC. My account had about $365 worth of coin now it reads about $5. I emailed support but the emails seem to not have reached them since I got a message from the mailer Daemon that they failed to get sent to their support address.
I don't see bter is got a hack but maybe you need to wait for several days and I think their just having a problem with their system but maybe better for you to try again sending a message for their support for a twice.
