Guys, he haven't posted a single reply after his first topic start.
It's probably safe to assume he's gone for good then.

I do data recovery, and really 99% of the time it is a PC with a single hard drive, and Windows is simply brain-dead. The desired data is usually there.

A quick and easy, non-writing test is to boot to a Linux liveCD, and access the hard drive that way.

Maybe he's evading taxes and actually sold them for cash. Now he's created an alibi in case the govt comes asking for gains taxes later he can say 'crashed the he so I lost them!'  No one is that silly not to try to save the hd

High end data recovery companies are very good at doing what they do, here's a presentation where some advanced techniques such as replacing the disk stack in to a new drive and replacing boards while swapping proms are described. If you are in to the thousands of dollars lost, it is something to consider.

(sorry, it's part one of six)

I have swapped PROMs on HDD to make them work with a new board. Pretty easy if you have the right board.

i friend of mine had his HD fail and somebody on this forum helped him recover his coins. not 100% sure who it was but i think it was the guy who makes those shiny BTC coins.

I remember ~sipa helping recover a badly corrupt database (wallet) one time.  That may or may not be the incident you are describing.  ~sipa is, or at one time was, probably the primary coder of Bitcoin.  I've not tracked commits for a long time, but that was what it appeared to me to be the case when I did.

How much did you have in that wallet?

It will determine the value of having it professionally recovered.

Lost my wallet. Everything gone. Harddisk crash and no backup. Lesson learned, but thats it for me. Good bye bitcoin Sad

90% of the time I can pull data from a failed drive. It may take $500 and 100 hours of my time but I always pull the data.

I don't feel sorry for the OP.  Why should we?  Well maybe just a little bit but still, he got into bitcoin and didn't read up about it.  People have lost their passwords or forgotten them, those are the sad ones.  But a hard drive failure without a backup..  Poo-hooo.  Always make a backup of important data you want to keep.  Also if the op has no clue about data recovery, he could be keeping track of this thread in hopes of people with solutions to provide him with which has already happened.

I feel like this is more of a troll post.  He's a full member with 186 posts since July 04, 2012, 08:09:42 PM.  He should know a little more than the just new beginner.  With the price of bitcoin as it is now and to say, bye just like that.  TROLLLLLLLLLLL...

Wow that really sucks.  Man, need to store your bitcoins in other places.  I sent an encrypted wallet to 2 of my email addresses as an attachment.  Is that enough safety guys?  Just curious of what everyone thinks of that option?
