Nope still not working... I even did a fresh install on an xp and win 7 system with default paths... i have plenty of other wallets installed that work fine. 
30mins later and its connected.. strange... anyways thanks for your help people..

Your's is the first posting on this (no emails or IRC either)... so maybe its your machine or configuration. How many connections do you have showing up?
