Today's results 29th March 2021

Angola 2-0 Gabon
Burkina Faso 1-0 South Sudan
D.R. Congo 1-0 Gambia
Egypt 4-0 Comoros
Togo 1-2 Kenya
Malawi 1-0 Uganda

Today's result looks good. I'm particularly glad to see Egypt win so strongly. Liverpool's Mo Salah even got a brace from the game.

The results above are from Group B, D and G and so far it means that Egypt and ofcourse Comoros have qualified from the group stage; and they are joined by Burkina Faso, Gambia and Gabon.

Algeria vs Botswana
Zimbabwe vs Zambia

will take place tonight
.

Zambia's game has already ended. They won 2-0 against Zimbabwe so they should be up in second place with 6 points, next to group leaders, Algeria.  I think all games have ended for today. Algeria demolished Botswana by 5 goals to nil. Botswana on the other hand was just unfortunate against  dominant team like Algeria.

I'm not an Afcon fan of the year but I'd try to stay updated for as much as possible. Thanks for putting this one together, igehhh.

Is this a sign of South Africa losing significance in global sports? Because in cricket also they are going down. They won the 2019 Rugby world cup, so don't want to comment about it.
I can't see this reducing the South Africa team, this can happen to anyone on the tournament, the last African Cup was not as good to our team Nigeria as the 2021 has done to SA side. Even those who made it into the tournament aren't good as the SA side sincerely but the god of soccer helped some. So, let cheers the SA side up for what they are good at currently.

I don't want to deviate from the topic, but the fact that South Africa failed to qualify for the main tournament is very disturbing. They used to be one of the strongest sides in Africa (at one time they had a world ranking of 16 as per FIFA). Is this a sign of South Africa losing significance in global sports? Because in cricket also they are going down. They won the 2019 Rugby world cup, so don't want to comment about it.

I haven't even heard about the Sudan football team before. I guess they don't rank among the top-100 countries as per FIFA. They have never played in the FIFA world cup. I am not forgetting the fact that they managed to win the 1970 African Cup of Nations, but after that they were on a near constant decline. That changed in 2018, when they managed 3rd place in the CHAN 2018.
Yes they are not a great team in africa they do not qualify for the final tournament but this year they did an exception  and they played very nice we've  seen similar cases like zambia team in 2013 when they were able to win the cup.

Agreed Sudan is not known to be a good footballing country, nobody expected them to knock South Africa out of the upcoming African cup of Nations, I think the few time I watched them I was impressed, the first game against Ghana and the second game against South Africa which they won 2-0, the seriousness and the hunger to win in them were terrifying. The other surprise of the qualifiers is Comoros and Gambia making their way to their first AfCON.

I thought that South Africa was one of the strongest teams in the African continent. But they failed to qualify for the final tournament, as they had only 10 points from 6 games. Sudan won all 3 of their home matches (against Ghana, South Africa and the weak São Tomé and Príncipe), while South Africa managed to win only two (their home game against Ghana ended in a draw). It will be ironic to see South Africa out of the tournament, despite the fact that the total number of teams have been increased from 18 to 24. Anyway, congratulations to all the teams who managed to qualify.

Yes it is normal with seasons that keep changing every year my thing with a new generation of players in each country the composition of the South African players is different from previous years besides that the factor of playing at home also raises the morale of the players and I've seen  sudan do that.

As it stands Sudan leading South Africa by 2 goals to Nil and that implies they'll be advancing instead of South Africa. It's been a pretty terrible performance from South Africa as they are yet to register a shot on target with over 76 minutes played already.
It's a shame that south Africa won't be gracing the African nation cup with there presence, they have built themselves as one of those too African team, but losing to Sudan is a shame, but no disrespect to Sudan they earn what the worked for a country with economy problem and hunger, I think this would bring happiness to the small country, been bias as a Nigerian am happy that South Africa won't be in the tournament.

Pretty bad news for the West African countries, South Africa are known for beating the North Africans now that they are out who will do the dirty job? Even the Ghana coach wanted south Africa to qualify for the same reason. South Africa with a lot of good home-based players couldn't get a draw from Sudan to qualify? Hmm, anyways the best team is winning.

The way African football is played is often different from other continent, there are less goals and home team always be the favorite and had opportunity to win at most times.
Hey Man! the previous results say otherwise looking at the previous scores you could agree with me that the game is different now, there have been so many goals especially in the last round 4 and 5 of the qualifiers. Yes the Nigeria team always find it difficult to trash or score more against their opponents looking at their previous stats, they are always comfortable after getting a goal, and the second problem is the set of players up front, they are known stars and everyone want to be the talk of the town, they use the national team call up as an opportunity to sell out themselves in Europe. No team play.

Despite securing the win, I wasn't by any bit impressed by the Nigeria's team performance, they lacked the cutting edge and If this is the kind of performance they put up in the tournament when it gets underway, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't make it far in the tournament.

Super Eagle can do more better in the next stage despite their unimpressive style of game.

Congratulations to Gambia on their first ever AFCON. Although, some argue that they only qualified because the number of participating teams was increased from 18 to 24. What do you think?
This pure unprofessional excuse, 18 teams, 24 teams does not matter, these guys were pure class and deserved qualification. They beat Kenya and Togo, drew with Egypt in the first leg, qualified with a game to spare yet people feel they don't deserve it because the teams were increased to 24 teams.. I don't buy it.

Agreed. They deserved the qualification. Most of the big tournaments are now increasing the number of teams and I believe that it is a step in the right direction. Football needs more diversity and the smaller nations need to be given a chance to compete against the top teams (not just in the qualifying tournaments, but also in the main championship). The number of participating teams have been increased even for the FIFA World Cup. From 2026 onward, there will be a total of 48 teams taking part, with most of the increase coming from AFC and CAF.

Nigeria won and qualified even if they didn't they would have qualified as Sierra Leone and Lesotho had earlier drew. The team needs improvement at all angle. The last time we met with Algeria in the competition, there were a lot of unprofessional display and lack of commitment. Etebo was a fantastic player then, as fate would have it we couldn't beat Algeria. If we need to get somewhere this time around, We need the team to be very serious.

Despite securing the win, I wasn't by any bit impressed by the Nigeria's team performance, they lacked the cutting edge and If this is the kind of performance they put up in the tournament when it gets underway, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't make it far in the tournament.

There's still a lot a fixtures to look forward to for today and I'm mostly interested South Africa vs Sudan, South Africa needs at least a draw to qualify alongside Ghana, while a win for Sudan will guarantee them a place at the expense of South Africa, I'll give the South Africans an edge here.
