unfortunately play to earn is not as sweet as what people say. Earning money playing games may seem attractive, but this concept has many drawbacks. one of the big problems is that inflation is faster than any concept crypto project because the use case of tokens is only to be exchanged for real money so it is very difficult to go up.

Will it be abandoned? Yes. Especially if the game design itself doesn't interesting. Do note, as you said yourself that some people play games to get rid of boredom, but the essential part of gaming itself is whether the game is playful or not, if the game is shitty, people will not play it even if they earn some money. On another hand, people who solely seek profit will come into them. Some popular games like CS GO already have a loyal community, and the game itself is legendary. With that in mind, we know that there is a platform that give the player an earning if they play the game.
I agree, I once be a part of a game that was available in Steam, a gaming website where paid and free games can be downloaded online. It is a game that is kinda boring and not for all and they pushes to make it available in crypto, only few people got interested in the game most of the people just buy the coin because of the people behind it, now the game development is over it is now abandoned.

Play to earn won't existing in the future. The tendency is quite the opposite, as each new day there are more people willing to play video games for several hours of their daily routine. Meanwhile, there are less jobs available as the time goes by, so these people will have to find their incomes at the virtual universe, what includes video-games.
The play to earn concept didn't start with cryptocurrency. It came from much before. Since the 2000's there were people doing real world trading at popular mmorpgs, although not much was talked about this matter back then. Now that everyone knows about play to earn, it's normal they want to earn by playing as well. Unfortunatelly there isn't a fertile environment for this kind of activity yet, because the games which offer this kind of feature don't have enough security and infrastructure mechanisms to proportionate a safe, fair and funny platform for every players.
The last points that you touch are what is preventing the play to earn model to become way more popular, the game has to be fun and if it isn't then there is not going to be a lot of people willing to pay for items that you can get in the game.The play to earn concept didn't start with cryptocurrency. Also the barrier to entry cannot be that high, in many multiplayer games you can play the game for free and paying money is optional, but in the play to earn model you have to invest a great deal of capital from the get go and many people are not going to be willing to pay that much money before they even try the game.

To put it simply, if the game sucks, people won't play it and there is no money in them since there isn't any gaming/economic activity.
We can argue that if the situation is backward, people could earn a lot in P2E, okay, but will it sustain if the game is uninteresting, very likely no. Some cryptocurrency-centric community seems to forcefully incorporate gaming with cryptocurrencies, while on the other hand, as of now gaming industry does'nt really need cryptocurrency-related technology.
I am eager to see if I'm wrong maybe in the future some gaming companies wether big or indie, are able to make a perfect combination that intersects gaming and cryptocurrency communities, without any hidden motive. Just simply, the game is good.

Yes, but can "Gaming Industry" adopted to cryptocurrency?
As you know "Steam" are responding to avoided anykind of game who have "NFTs" + a long time ago they remove "BTC" from the payment process. IMO, the gaming industry developed still limited to crypto-currency circle.
We need to targeting non-crypto user, to gain more adoption. But, is not gonna easy because most regular gamer are not really want it.

Yes steam discontinuing it’s cooperation with BTC was really a big disappointing.
Right now I have hardly heard any games which offer cryptos if you play them.
At first I thought this post was off topic, but after reading OP’s post it seems like he got some good points.
But as suggested we need more users to show interest in cryptos, specifically teens, as they are the ones who play video games a lot.
Nevertheless let’s see if any possible things happen in the future with cryptos and gaming together.

Until there will new one that is being offered, completely unique just like what Axie did in the gaming industry. Many kinds of play to earn games in cryptocurrency adopted with hype projec like AXIE game have been scam or lower reward values right now after SLP coin price drop drastically. Not worth for long term project with play to earn game in cryptocurrency. I think need changed with new adapting when have play to earn games actually their coins price could be stable, never drop drastically and make many investor have buy NFT card games get loss much. I have played with several games and get loss much after coins price drop drastically not any development for the future how to make coins keep going up.The game is still running but the value of the coins is getting lower, the price of NFT games is not worth it anymore and game expenses are not in accordance with the results obtained.
Now even play to earn is not hype anymore, there is something newer namely Move To earn, exercise and will get some benefits.
The game industry continues to grow and enter a new era in the cryptocurrency world, but this must also be balanced with good marketing strategies and the management of game products and the income that will be obtained. Don't let it become trash and end up harming.

I don't think it will be abandoned in the future. Many big gaming companies now starts to integrate web3 technology to their upcoming games. It also attracts more potential players if they found out that the game is crypto related and earn some cash by playing it. Real gamers also appreciate some returns while playing the game they enjoy even if it's not the same amount if they are whaling in that game.
The real challenge to those big game companies is how to properly balance the game economy when they adapt to blockchain technology. We know that there are some that will only play for financial reasons. If the game economy is not balance, it would also drag those real players to eventually stop playing because the developers didn't planned properly how to counter those extractors.

I haven't expected it of having a huge impact and influence on the gaming industry but this hype and these Play-to-earn games promoted, it was uncertain to keep it long and adopted by all gaming sites. Just look, this kind of trick has already been declining as the market went bear as well. It looks like the hyped is over and those people/gamers who take this opportunity are leaving as well. It was just to say that the surge never take so long and it getting back to normal situation.

In the past most people played games just to get rid of boredom or just to fill spare time when there was no important activity to do but after Cryptocurrency was adopted by the gaming industry then now it seems to have changed people's views of the gaming industry because now playing games is no longer just eliminating boredom because we can also earn while playing, last year Play to Earn experienced high hype which shows that many people are interested in following this type of game, but considering Play to Earn is now less in demand so could it be that they will be abandoned in the future?

Play2Earn concept is proven not profitable in the long run for both players and developers since there's no sustainability for this kind of gaming reward concept in the long run because players will be more focused on earning rather than spending and enjoying that will kill the essence of gaming industry. Until now there's no decent game being introduced in crypto unlike games that can be played on Xbox and PlayStation since game developer is not interested to venture on long term project with limited source of fund.
I'm not expecting that big time game developers will shift into crypto while they are earning huge amount of money by doing there usual routine that doesn't involve in crypto. I think P2E game is just a hype and nothing more long term will be expected since the success of this game depends on the consistent buying of the tokens in the market by players to be spend in the game. The main problem will arise if no one want to spend anymore.
How could it be? The hype needs to be bigger than the supply and that rarely ever happens. Like for example with Axie Infinity, it went on for months and people made money with it, but the more you breed the more axies you would have and that means eventually it reached to a point where there weren't enough people, and they all had to make a lot less in order to continue, you couldn't pay people the same amount when it is just 10k people playing vs when there are 1 million players, in that case there would be too much SLP on the market and that would drop the value.I'm not expecting that big time game developers will shift into crypto while they are earning huge amount of money by doing there usual routine that doesn't involve in crypto. Yes, breeding is good but people will want to breed to a point, the more players there are, the breeding didn't increase accordingly.
