I also remember that time when XRP holders celebrated it that they have a thread about it but this is in terms of marketcap. There could be no project that will beat ETH if it meant the price of a token exceeds the price of ETH. The projects that claimed to be ETH killers seem to be just a claim. Even the BNB that we thought to be the biggest threat back 2017 had failed to do it.

This is theoretically possible, in practice the new coin must be very cool so that investors want to invest huge amounts in it, which will be enough to overtake Ethereum in capitalization.

Nope. Name one important online marketplace, where ETH is the sole mode of payment available. I have seen market places which accept only BTC, but I haven't seen one which accepts only Ethereum payments. On top of that, the developers are not fulfilling the expectation of the users now. Various innovations are getting delayed and new bugs and security issues are being found. If this trend continues, then in the long term ETH will be replaced by some other altcoin.

I don't think so. At this point of time it's very hard for any crypto to beat eth in market cap and take the 2nd space. For a long time ethereum is the biggest platform based token and also it has the most use cases. Most of the good coins realesed on ethereum and after definitely projects started to come ethereum is nownon top of uses. Also the 3rd party dev support are also big in ethereum community. And people also like ethereum. So it's hard fornany crypto to take ethereum space.

There are several key factors that make Ethereum and Bitcoin unbeatable. some of it is due to large users, and the second is the usefulness factor in solving problems or real use cases. XRP can probably beat the two in terms of investment, as their prices are quite affordable and they also offer a very good ROI in a relatively short period of time. but so far I think in terms of two important factors such as usability and users, nothing can beat bitcoin and ethereum

If there will be a competition for ETH at the 2nd spot I'd say it will be Ripple for sure. Ripple(XRP) had this one time where it surpass ETH for a while in the rankings. But I doubt that this will happen soon, XRP still needs a lot of development in order to surpass ETH again and with ETH releasing some big updates and development XRP will surely have a hard time to climb at rank 2 again and surpass ETH.

We do not know what will going to happen because everything in the altcoins can possibly happen. Why? even though ETH had already expresses that their upgrade is good and that their network now is fast and reliable other crypto like chain link progressively grow over a period of time climbing up to the rank slowly beating other crypto in the rank listed at coinmarketcap.com. Other coins like the uniswap, YFI which has been pumped by whales could be something a very interesting coin.

if I'm not mistaken, back then BCH and XRP took over ethereum and came in second but didn't last long, every coin could take second place it could have happened if altcoins had something to attract cryptocurrency users to their market. but until now i haven't seen altcoin beat ethereum.

In terms of price, maybe currently there are many new altcoins that have almost the same price and some are higher than the price of Ethereum in the market, but in terms of popularity, function, and capitalization, it looks like it will be very difficult to beat by any alt coin today, be it old alt coins and new alt coins.
Even now many new alt coins are being created but none of these can even replace ethereum as the second largest crypto on the current coinmarketcap list, 1 or 2 years from now it looks like ethereum will remain everyone's favorite in the crypto community. .

The only thing is that, if ETH keep up it's game. It will perpetually remain a coin to beat, but a minute of levity could see them pushed aside because others are working hard as well to climb up the chart and remain there as long as they could.
