Bitcoin is an acceptable means of payment in many countries ,albeit, within a smaller community. For national lottery, not yet integrated as an option, the most commonly used method is of course credit cards.Only about 5% of Americans currently use bitcoin.

I am just curious to know if you can buy lottery tickets for your own national lottery in your country. I am not referring to all these scam gambling sites with supposed "Provably Fair" lottery systems.

Even though I lived in a country wherein we can used our bitcoin to pay our monthly bills like electricity and water and credit cards, I'm not aware that it's possible to used bitcoin to buy lottery tickets.

If enough people ask for this, they just might consider giving us that option to pay with bitcoins.  Grin  What payment options do you have for online lottery in your country?

I'm not really sure if this is a effective method though. Buying lottery tickets here is all about timing, if you're going to buy close to the date of the lottery, expect a long line, so if bitcoin is going to be used, it may slow down and I'm sure lots of patrons will complain about it. So I guess, the old and traditional fiat will still be the best option.

I am not familiar with the bitcoin lottery, and there is still no discussion about this bitcoin lottery in my country. I think the people in my country are still unfamiliar with bitcoin so there is no bitcoin lottery.

Ok, to clarify I am looking for countries where you can pay for lottery tickets with your bitcoins. A national lottery is normally a government backed lottery and not some small private endeavor. This is just another tax source for the government to get people to give money towards something that would benefit a few.  Grin

I know for a fact that no national lottery are giving prizes in Bitcoin at the moment. I also know a site like Freebitco.in have a lottery that gives bitcoins as prize money.  Tongue

It's impossible to buy national lottery tickets currently using bitcoin.

The prize pool is based on the National Currency in Fiat, that would require the lottery ticket seller to redeem the bitcoin for the fiat to add to the prize pool.

This isn't happening anytime soon, anywhere. An exchange would have to provide a service of some type and it's similar to buying coffee with bitcoin, why not just use your stinky fiat to lose money...

Imagine spending valuable bitcoin for a 30,000,000 to 1 chance of a jackpot when bitcoin is currently WAY undervalued by the world...alt-coins are a better lottery system than any national lottery -- and we HATE alts Grin

Only in countries where the government have recognized Bitcoin as a medium of exchange, it can be possible, or even countries that the Lottery are not based by government and it is free market. But in my country it is not a reality, in Brasil we steel discuss racial quota, so you can imagine, state is too big.

You can buy the National Lottery for Bitcoin only in those countries that have recognized Bitcoin as a means of payment at the official state level. Unfortunately, my country is not included in this list yet.

I am alive but in hibernation.
Bitcoin itself isn't full fledged legal in India as of yet, and with gambling being illegal almost all across the country. I dont think its possible to buy national lottery tickets here with bitcoin. Ive heard news that some forms of gambling will be legalized soon, to boost the economy as it is a booming business and if regulated properly, it would surely fetch a good tax returns for the country's GDP.

I think you forget to mention that bitcoin are not the legal tender in India. So buying and selling anything using bitcoin is against the government policy. With Bank asking for disclaimer that credit/debit card will not be use in bitcoin purchase, it is currently a distant dream.

If the lottery system is based in a country that doesn't operate with bitcoin, the request will not be successful. For instance, in my country, I have not heard of bitcoin used for any kind of payment.

Unfortunately, not to mention buying state-run lottery tickets, it is not easy to buy food or drink in our country. Because Alipay and WeChat are too convenient to pay. A roadside stall can be used. No one wastes time converting money into bitcoins or Ethernet shops and then spends it.

Sad to say but our prestigious country doesn't yet accepting bitcoin as a payment for buying lottery tickets. How I wish it is possible in our area for us crypto users. Less hassle and more convenient. Though that being said that lottery was owned by a government oganizations. Thus our government are not yet that open minded about bitcoin.

That is also what I know, so far I haven't seen any news about countries accepting Bitcoin as payment for national lotteries. The only news I have seen is some states in the U.S.A. have started to accept Bitcoin as a mode of payment for their taxes. So I think this is a good start for the government to open up other avenues on where they will accept BTC as payment in their system such as a government operated lottery.

As much as I want to use Freebitco.in it's not the same as the normal lottery being played locally where your winning numbers are picked by bouncing balls, its not as much thrilling as the real one. The point is you can buy/earn as many tickets you like but you can't pick the numbers you want to play in their lottery, the thing is Freebitco.in is not the same experience as what you want to see in a real lottery.

I bought some lottery tickets online and I was only presented with the old traditional payment options and I figured it is time for us to approach these Lottery operators, to ask for a Bitcoin payment option.  Wink
Just for clarifications, are you just asking for these kinds of lottery business to accept Bitcoin as a mode of payment? Or are you also including the thought of them having a lottery that has BTC as its prize? If you are just asking for a Bitcoin as a payment option I don't think businesses will be willing to risk their businesses for it, lottery tickets are priced cheaply and just a little 1-3% price movement could affect their income drastically.

So the best option for them is to also have a Bitcoin lottery where their jackpot is Bitcoin as well, in this category of course businesses won't worry about the price of Bitcoin as the prize pot is also BTC.

in the country where I live, whatever form of gambling is strictly forbidden, if someone uses bitcoin to pay for gambling online and the government knows it, I am afraid it will adversely affect other bitcoin users, the government might make strict laws regarding the existence of bitcoin do not like gambling, it would be much wiser if we use bitcoin for positive and useful things, at least it will also have a positive impact on the existence of bitcoin

I can't directly, but I can use my Bitcoin to buy a gift card and from there buy whatever I want within the stores that accept this gift card. That being said, there is not much of a point doing this in my situation.

I am way better off using good old fiat to settle transactions. I don't see the point of forcing yourself to use something just for the sake of using it. I rather use something that works already, and is super convenient. Fiat checks all boxes.

Would local stores directly accept Bitcoin, then sure, I will use my coins to buy goods, but that's not the case right now. Bitcoin has a long way to go in order to even remotely compete with fiat.
