Hello everyone, it's about an hour or so that I'm on this pool .. I have 1x gekkoscience 2pac

At the beginning I started with difficulty 4000 (4K) then the pool brought me "Diff 40" and finally "Diff 20" .. what difficulties can I enter for my hardware Huh?

thanks to all, greetings ultimate64

All of that is outlined in the official support thread-

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/gekkoscience-2paccompac-bm1384-stickminer-official-support-thread-1764803

but since it is inherent in this pool, it is better to talk about it here

You don't need to enter any for your hardware, you just let the pool automatically adjust it.

so if the pool leads me to difficulty 15 I have to leave so ...

ok, thanks

And why would you do that?  Cheesy Do you actually understand what it is, these shares and difficulty for your miner?
It's to keep flow of shares constant, so pool communicates with you efficiently and your hashrate estimation is more accurate.

TWENTY-EIGHT HUNDRED & EIGHTY-THREE WORKERS for 8.8Th.
Interesting stat...must be some kind of record.

youve been running rentals? could be why your worker count is so high
Indeed the rental services are terrible at keeping miners connecting, constantly connecting and disconnecting miners to get the right amount of hashrate. A lot of those worker connections may all be stale ones that have yet to expire.

...You don't need to understand how blockchain works to start mining.

It's like, you buying a car and you don't need to know how it works under the hood to successfully drive it everyday and make a living as a driver.
Same with operating mining equipment.
Imo, it's more like buying an electric car, driving it around, and then asking if it takes gas or diesel when you're stranded on the side of the road because you didn't charge it.  Undecided

Well if you did your due diligence you would learn the car was actually a hybrid Toyota Camry and not the tesla model 3 like you thought. Thankfully you were able to uber to a nearby gas station and buy 87 octane unleaded gas to put back into your car and continue on your journey! Smiley

At the risk of being a complete dick, my question is how do you drop $20,000 USD on 9 units of computer equipment when you haven't the vaguest idea how they work, what they do, or even the basics of mining?

imo, "what are shares? and how do blocks work?" are questions you ask before you buy equipment; because, due diligence   Undecided

You got it wrong way round.  Wink
You must do your due diligence on investment side of things. Bitcoin price, miner price, expected ROI, associated costs, maybe also power usage, heat - if you install it yourself.

I knew enough about mining to be comfortable starting. I've been involved in the crypto scene since 2012, I remember the rise and fall of mtgox and how butterfly labs ripped everyone off. I have a basic understanding of what is being solved, and how it's being solved. With that being said, I've never mined in a pool before until recently. I took a risk and I'm happy I did, but there's always more to learn and I'm trying to soak up what I can. I don't think I ever asked how do blocks work, only about shares. As for the money, it's both an investment, and my support of what I think is the future. I'll be directing 600TH/s towards this pool in the near future.

How do I know when I'm fully ramped up and have reached 5x difficulty? Only earned .005btc with 9 s9's in 3 days. Obviously I know this isn't accurate due to ramp time, hence the question.
Also on pool info page what's the diff? It's at 25, is that the odds of solving a block or something?
Believe it took my 2 -741 about 5 days.  but what you see as earned is only what you will get if block found right now.  you also get btc over course of next 4 blocks if you keep mining or quit mining.   Kinda hard to figure,  but this is the best payout of any pool,   just comes a little slower.

The 25 means we have submitted 25% of the shares of the mythical 100% shares needed for 100% luck to solve a block.

we could solve a block at 26 or 126 or 226 or any number between 0 and a couple thousand..   but we normal get one around 100 give or take.   except that last real lucky block that was 1.5

How does the submitting shares work? Each new block requires a new number and new shares correct? Shares generated by trying to solve block x can't be used to solve block y right? If somebody wants to point me in the right direction I don't mind doing my own research, albeit it might confuse me more.

Here is a fairly thorough explanation:

Yes,  every new block requires miners to try to solve that block,   so you start over searching for the correct answer each block.    But being a pool,  it keeps track of how many hashes you have submitted to try to solve each block, even old ones somebody else solved.  So even though we might not find a block for awhile,  the pool is keeping track of how much work you are doing/ have been doing, and when we finally solve a block,  you get rewarded for all the hard work/hashes you have been doing.

Here is a good page where it will show all the miners and you can look at  their hash rate to see where you fit in.

http://pool.ckpool.org/pool/pool.miners

it might take you a few more days to climb but with

I'm guessing, but think you'll end up getting about .15 + BTC per block solved.

There are a few trying to create ICO's to fund the projects so just asking to see if anyone else heard about them...  And I want to get off of the Newbie...  Maybe I can reach  SuperNewbie in a week or so...

Fine, but I think it's likely a scam. The steps in technology and likely improvements are well known in advance and getting 28TH out of a single machine just because it's 7nm is virtually impossible without industrial current levels of power.
