What kind of charges do you expect it to cost to attach chips to boards?

Pardon my ignorance, I'm pretty unfamiliar when it comes to the finer points of hardware. Although I'm super awesome at soldering Smiley
Currently the only fixed quote i have for "populating" the boards with the chips is 25 eur / board. I haven't accepted the price and i don't plan to do it in the future eighter. I have a better quotation on the whole assembly using SMT. Getting the board done, getting all the components in here, populating the board with all the needed components at once with SMT and finishing them with heatsinks and fans at one, good price. Sorry, but i can't tell the price Tongue

How's the Website going? Any way I can help?

Also, I think it'd be a good idea to give a few Euros/Bitcoins of every board to BkkCoins, if we'll be able to get his design working once it's finished. See also this discussion.
The website is ready, but with no content. I NEED to allocate time to make the damn content. Sorry for being so late, but i've had much to do lately. You are right about BkkCoins and based on my small discussion with him, he will eighter get the license fee he asks for or we will pay for every board made based on his design. To be decided later.

I have some questions now:
1) Did Avalon give any shipping time informations about the "test chips"?
2) Is the PSU included in the price?
z) If it's 85 for a 16 chip board then for a 80 it's 425 right?
3) Where can is see the layout of the PCB? Is it on Bkks klondike github page? or when will you give informations about this?
4) Will it be plug n play on cgminer? Or what are your plans about it?
5) Can i use it on a RasPi?
6) How long are you planning the time could be between delivering (to you) and shipping out (to us) ?
7) Will you release testing informations when you start using the board with the chips avalon should send you before the 10weeks? Maybe videos or something like that.

1. No, Avalon did not give direct info. However, rumors are that they ship the sample chips before the end of May. Will receive them, hopefully, by the end of June.
2. No, the PSU is not included in the price, as it can vary a lot, by power or by price. If you have 800 chips and want to power 50 boards, you need serious ones. If you have 16 chips and want to power only one board, you may be able to put it into your own PC and just plug it in your current PSU.
3. you can see it on BKKcoins's github page
4. Yes, it will PnP on cgminer and Mineforman's "MinePeon". See this page: http://mineforeman.com/2013/05/26/minepeon-beta-1-code-name-butterfly-bob-released/
5. Yes, you can simply attach it to the RasPi. Note: from my own experience, you need a good power supply for the RPi. Use a strong Nokia or Samsung charger (min 800 mAh).
6. I'm planning on 2-3 weeks maximum. I'm planning to have all the components for all the PCBs ready until the chips get here.
7. Yes, i will definitely release a video and pictures. It is also a way for me to get "verified" in front of the community.

- I have a final price of 85 Eur for the Klondike16, 16 chip miner. I still have to get quotation for the heatsinks and fans, but the final price covers all.

Are you planning to make 32 chip ones? Or 64 maybe?
Is the PSU included in the price?

Quote
- I'm opening up the idea of "Hosting". No need to send several kilograms across the globe. You will have the opportunity to leave the miner here in Romania, using cheap electricity, being up 99% and being able to control the miner remotely. I will have a chilled environment, secure location, with two internet providers (one for backup) and dedicated support person in case of any emergency. I'll also post some pictures of the place soon.

I hope you are going to receive -> build -> ship also, i don't know if electricity in romania is so cheaper than somewhere else, talking about ASICs. Maybe i can send you my GPU, that would be nice Cheesy

Hello,
1.I'm not sure if i can include the PSU in the price.
a: i still don't have a clear idea nor an exact quotation for the heatsink + fan (this can alter the final price)
b: i don't want to supply the cheapest, worst PSU ever, just to be able to sqeeze it in the offer of 85 Eur. Here, the price of the PSU can be from 20 eur to 100 eur. I'm planning on offering it separately though.

2. Yes, i'm going to receive -> assemble -> ship. That is the main idea.

When/how will we pay for board assembly when the time comes? You are currently only accepting payment on the GB for chips correct?
Currently yes. At a later time, i will collect BTC for the boards, but we have a little time until that comes.

Hi all,
The last few days i've had a little work to do, so i wasn't able to answer on the forum. I'll be out today also, but in the evening i will login and answer all pending questions (also sent via PM). Sorry for any inconvenience.

Are there any news regarding the feasibility of the 80-chip Avalon design?

I understand Klondike's can be chained, but the cost grows quickly up to 80 chips (Assuming the chained PCB's will cost the same as a single, that's 85€ * (80/16) = 425€ per 80 chips).

If the Avalon design was feasible and its cost was lower than the cost of the 5 Klondike's needed, then it would be a cheaper option for middle to bigger orders. We would then have several combinations of 80-chip and 16-chip PCB's that would probably accommodate 95% of the orders chip counts from what I quickly glanced.

What are your thoughts on this?

You are right. I'm still waiting for the Avalon team to post a few more information. The design is feasible, but i don't have enough information to start working on it.

16 chips board is the final solution or we also hope to 20 chips board?
16 chips. Easy, cheap, plug&play, connectable, etc

damn it...I preordered 20 chips...too much for 16 board...too little for two 16 boards  Grin Grin Grin I must preordered another 12 chips, but the batch 2 is unfortunately at the beginning. It's very difficult decision, wait or not?...hmmm   Smiley

@OP:

Small nagging request: could you please put the thread updates newest on top (i.e. reverse chronological order) so the freshest news are seen first.

Thx Smiley
