That amount of money can certainly buy a huge volume of coins especially those coins that are in low price at this time. If you really want to invest that money, I recommend to you altcoins that are listed in bittrex exchange redcoin and ptoy. They are in dumping now and most probably it will be back shortly then is a gonna be a huge profit in short time period.
I agree with you. Diversification of risks is better. Top 10 or Top 20 of coins almost all of them are gonna be a good investment.
I like this strategy most of all. Having done all the bets for one thing - you can lose everything.
IOTA and Waves. I think both projects to investmentable. Especially Waves have a great potential.

I am considering buy two altcoins, can anyone give some recommendation? I have about $1000 to invest in altcoin.
In my opinion, the best choice is to invest 50% in Ripple (because in last period, there's a big evolution for the price which is $1.10 and there is a leap for the value more than 38%). Then the other half to invest in Bitcoin because it is certain that the price will develop significantly at the beginning of next year (maybe the next price will be near of 40k).
Giving you two good altcoin to invest in is very difficult because I have some many good and promising coins.for now I will suggest oyster and exchange union.
Two altcoins I would recommend you for year 2018:
1. NEO - in my opinion most undervalued coin ATM. Right now it is at $60, I expect it to be at least $150-200 in 2018
2. Cindicator - although it had some recent pump because of PBC, they have a good idea and a dedicated team. Couple of good partnerships and I can see this project at $300m mcap.
I do not know why you think that the Sindicator has much more prospects in the future than other projects. Perhaps it is better to call such as Centra or even Soma. but about NEO, there are a lot of questions, because I also participated in this project, but I do not know what will happen next, 1. I would recommend to split your investment equally between xrp and nem.
Both of these were super low and I'm glad that i could purchase these below $0.5 each. It still isn't late xrp is partnering with many banks in asia and currently they are even testing their technology I'm sure by next year we'll have some good news.
