My knowledge is not enough to give a perfect suggestion. But I think you should buy Ethereum and PRL because they are profitable altcoin. The final decision of your investment is depends on you.. Research and analyze the project you choose.
I'd suggest you to invest in QTUM and Stratis - both have a good potential to grow in 2018.
I am considering buy two altcoins, can anyone give some recommendation? I have about $1000 to invest in altcoin.
My suggestion for you , don't invest your money in only two coin , but you should invest in more then 4-5 coins , Because here you are going to make safe investment not risky inevstment .My suggested coin for you to make better return in one to two month is , invest in posw coin this will give 30-40% easily in one month .
Second coin in which you should invest is Digibyte coin , currently this coin is not much priced but in future I am sure whithin 1-2 months it will jump more rapidly than what it is growing in these day .
Third coin that will be better for investment is ehterium coin and dash coin also , with these you can inevst in bitcoin gold also which is not less than a opportunity to make money in short time .
Many promising altcoins around. You may want to divide your budget. Could be 60% on the promising altcoins for long term or even 20-20 on two other altcoins for short term, really it is up to you. But as per experience of from my friends, they had Oysterpearl (PRL) that made them rich only for few months.
ETH and XRP, buy and hold until you're sure to make a profit.

n my opinion the bitcoin ethereum and has potential for the future this is my recommendation for two altcoin the best you because I don't have any suggestions other than with them. the possibility if altcoin is just temporary but if eth BTC they had potential to grow with increased and also in general they were known by the rest of the world then this is the altcoin that I have ever met. ..
XRP Ripple and XLR Solaris

I am not professional advisor, but i think thet everyone should read some text about these both currencies. And then decide for yourself.

Probably Ethereum and Minexcoin cuz they are really have a potential for getting better and better but make sure to not blindly taking any recommendation maybe they are only promoting their coins so they could sell it higher for baiting people to invest.
If this is all you have, I would recommend you to buy Ripple and Deep Onion, the former one has been doing really good this year, and i think it has the chance to hit 3~5 usd by the end of next year. As for the latter one, its community together with its price has been growing rapidly since its release in the middle of this year, and I am sure that its price will continue to rise with more and more features release next year~
The two altcoins I will recommend to you are ripple and litecoin. XRP was designed for banks and global money transfers, and the value of XRP will not go down it will always be among the first 10. Litecoin is also a good investment because it is base on the model of bitcoin and also a coin to watch.
I recommend Ethereum and Ripple because it's a good coin and very stable and it's predicted that next year both coins will increase
I can suggest you electroneum and ethereum. I think these two coins have growth potential. If I were you I would invest in them. Electroneum is good for long term holding. And eth for short term.
I found one ICO very interesting. Instead of mining you can get some ICO's by promoting them on social media, adding artists, venues,...

Doge and Darico. I think they will have a rapid growth in the near future, if Bitcoin develops, then so do they, this is the meaning of altcoins.

I am considering buy two altcoins, can anyone give some recommendation? I have about $1000 to invest in altcoin.
IOTA, i think this altcoin have a potential to grown up because have a strong fundamental structure coin and i hold this coin now hopefully i gain a profit this by 218, many investor now like IOTA to hold because they know that it has a big potential coin.
The next ethereum for short term hold because it's moving like bitcoin and litecoin for long term hold steady price value but i'm sure it will rise up after 3 to 4 years soon.
Best altcoins are new because old coin already pumped, 2018 year will moon new coins! My choice: REQ and GBX

I would like to recommend you waves and stratis.
If you have checked coinmarketcap today and other crypto markets, it shows that there are at least 3 alternate coins in the top 10 of altcoins with very cheap price but have a big market cap and they are Ripple, Cardano, and NEM.
