6 teams for Olympics lmao!

ICC should take chullu bhar pani and take a dip for good 5 mins. These *cukers are a shameless bunch.

BC inhe sharam bhi nahi aati aise proposal submit karne mein. Pata nahi kahan se late hai itna chutiyapa.

LOL.. I guess they don't want cricket in Olympics, but their fans are pressurizing them for the inclusion. So they at least need to show that they tried. A minimum of three medals will be there (gold, silver and bronze) and for three medals we can't have a competition with just 6 teams. And that too the ICC is proposing that there will be no qualifying tournament. So 6 teams (chosen by the ICC) will take part in the competition and 50% of them will win medals. Anyway, this is excellent news for other sports such as baseball and motorsport. IOC had shortlisted 9 sports including cricket. With the ICC submitting such a laughable format, I guess now it got reduced to 8 sports.

Also, 6-team tournament would mean that hosts (USA) gain an automatic entry. So it will be 5 full members + USA?

The latest news regarding Olympic inclusion of cricket is that the proposal from ICC is being reviewed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). If it gets approved, then cricket will be included as a 6-team competition for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. But there are other sports competing for the same spot, including baseball, squash, kickboxing and motorspot. I am not much excited about this, because the ICC has managed to destroy any benefit that may come out of Olympic inclusion by making it a 6-team event. As per reliable sources, the decision from IOC will be finalized by October 2023.

Cricket is already a sports dominated by few countries. Even if it somehow makes it, it'd be thing to see who these 6 teams would be and if it turns out to be squash match like the 1900s Olympics.

Anyway, actually, I also believe that it will be good for him if he stays away from cricket for a little while. At least till this problem sorts out.
Agreed. He is a great cricket player for sure, but he messed his reputation up thanks to this public spat and he never expected someone to record the whole thing and post it online after a while.

Just because his girlfriend thinks that he is cheating does not necessarily means he is. If she had common sense, she would not behave like that in public and to slap him and now Michael Clarke should take all the blame because her lady thinks she cheated and slapped him in public  Roll Eyes. We should not bother too much into anyone's private life and get to a conclusion, even if he did cheat, why should he remove himself from Cricket or any role he does, as everyone else is in the moral high ground.
Firstly, it does seem like he cheated on her since he was willingly ready to accept her beatings. Secondly, personal life will ultimately get connected to professional life in extreme cases like this one where reputation matters a lot.

He already lost some contracts thanks to this incident. Which world are you living in?

@Sithara007 so out of the six team’s probably four would be England, Australia, India, New Zealand and for other two slots Pakistan, South Africa could make it or even Bangladesh don’t you think?. Furthermore how will the other countries who will be left out react to this proposal, because I feel that it’s humiliating for them to be left out and I wonder if fan’s anger may make force ICC back out of this proposal?.

It makes no sense.

ICC is proposing that their rankings should be used instead of qualifier tournaments. It doesn't work like that, because for all the team sports, Olympics has its own qualifying tournament. And secondly, ICC rankings are of no use, as the eligibility criteria is completely different. In ICC tournaments, it is possible to bring 11 players from India or Pakistan and hand them the jersey of UAE or Oman, and then create a "national team". Olympic committee (or for that matter any other sports body) doesn't allow this sham. They allow only citizens to be part of the national team.

And in case by some miracle the IOC accepts ICC rankings as the qualifying criteria, then these countries will qualify as they are no.1 to no.6 in the ICC T20 team rankings: India, England, Pakistan, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia.

He ended up cheating on his girlfriend and had a public spat with her and some relatives. Some videos actually posted subtitles. I don't think he will be returning as a professional commentator anytime soon.

If we keep on digging the history of every player, it is possible to see a big list of incidents happened in their life similar to this. This have come out, whereas the majority gets convinced within four walls. As said, there is nothing to be done with the personal life getting connected with the professional life. For this reason I don't think he'll end his career in cricket.

BTW, the ICC has proposed a 6-team tournament for the 2028 Olympics. I am surprised. They should have went for a 3-team or 4-team competition. Anyway they want cricket to be played only by the pig-4. So why include more teams? All the other team sports (including football and field hockey) are having either 12 or 16 participants, and the ICC has suggested to limit the number of participants to a minuscule level. If that is the case, then why even apply for Olympic participation? Also, they don't want any qualifier tournament. ICC wants the 6 teams to be decided on the basis of their rankings. What a load of crap?
I was also shocked with this news that ICC is proposing they want to go with the 6 teams in 2028 Olympics which is surely disguising because most of the sports associations were more teams, but they are still living in 19th Century and never want to come out of this poor mindset which is not allowing cricket to have better exposure and big markets which could be more profitable.

Here just they want to live with 3 or 4 countries those have control and rule with their own strategy and policies, but they are missing many points as they can lose this all if they will not allow this exposure and more entries with mostly things can go into mess up, and we can face troubles which could be surely not profitable for the game now in next phase they need to work out on T20i and franchise leagues which is future and have better value for the player future as well.
That's true ICC is not ready to grow cricket world and introduce new countries in Olympics like fifa is doing it eith fifa . This is like an experimental attempt by fifa which they are conducting in 2026 and that'll be a successful one indeed  but icc is not willing to do anything like that.
ICC being the wealthiest organization in the world wants to keep hold of the power. Right now it is few countries that control the authority and decides what to be done. When more teams enter this won't be possible, when countries stand against the authority they were supposed to take decision based on the majority. There is big politics and they never take cricket to the Olympics for sure.
It is true that if more countries join the ICC, many more issues can be resolved in a sustainable manner. But it seems that the situation will not be very easy. Those who are in charge of the current ICC will not accept those things easily or if the situation does not favor them, ICC will do whatever is necessary to retain the power. It may be more logical if the ICC adopts a voting system for major decisions on behalf of cricket.
More teams , more matches, more tournaments is always good for icc and its growth and revenue too but don't know why they hesitate to add more teams to series and world cups . They just stick to those 6 teams in Asia Cup and same with t20 world cup .

What the heck is wrong with Michael Clarke? This dude established himself as one of the best batsmen in cricket, but completely lost it and is the new Warne these days.

He should simply retire from anything related to cricket since his reputation has already gone down the drain.

I think we should not disregard the fact that he was one of the best players ever to play cricket. Just because he has some issues in his personal life. If he has some personal issues he will sort them out I believe. But just to bash him because of his personal life does not seem right to me. In these types of celebrity cases, we will never know who is right and who is wrong. Unless the case goes to the court and the guy is basically like "Johnny Depp".

Anyway, actually, I also believe that it will be good for him if he stays away from cricket for a little while. At least till this problem sorts out.

For the U-19 tournaments, ICC is sticking with 16 as the number of participants for almost 2 decades. Other sports (such as football and field hockey) have moved ahead and increased the number of participants and the ICC has done just the opposite (they reduced the number of participants in ODI world cup from 16 to 10). At least for the U-19 tournaments, they need to increase the number of participants to 24. A number of good teams failed to qualify this time (including Namibia, Nepal and Thailand). And also, teams such as United Arab Emirates made a mockery of this tournament, by fielding squads entirely comprised of Indian citizens.

you answered the question yourself. the main hurdle in increasing number of cricket teams is Big-3 (+1). as more countries means the the supremacy of big 3 will be challanged. i dont see cricket going to more countries with current model of ICC. we will strick with these 8 test teams with 4 or 5 associate teams.

I love this initiative from ICC because this will bring good and quality women's in main stream of cricket like we have in men many are coming from U-19 competitions and with this we have few good teams as well as Rwanda done good job Bangladesh top group in presence of Australia which is another confidence booster for them Indonesia fail but still have good performance in last match they beat Zimbabwe which is also good for them in the future.
But, here I have one concern that ICC needs to be stick with native players because I have few proofs that Saudi Arab and UAE having their women's soccer teams with native players or other Arab country women's are also having chance to play in these teams, but they are not doing any positive development for cricket which is surely not good for them and game.

As I have said earlier, ICC is not at all interested to improve cricket. They are only interested in the money that they are making. And obviously, the pig-4 are making the most money for ICC. So obviously they are going to want to see the pig-4 play more than any other teams.

Having only 16 competitions is absolutely a disgrace for ICC and cricket itself. Only if ICC did not think just about money and actually thought about improving cricket.
The situation could have been a lot different. At least there should have been a qualification system for this. But this is just going to be based on the ranking. They absolutely do not want the smaller teams to have any glory. Because as I said, that brings down the possibility of the big 4 to perform in the higher stages.

As expected Rwanda qualified to the super-6 stage. For the next phase, there will be two groups of 6 teams each, with the top two qualifying for the semi-finals. Disappointed to see Indonesia not qualifying. They played well yesterday against Ireland, but ultimately lost by 49 runs. In their last match, they will be facing Zimbabwe for the plate-group playoff (in the other playoff, United States will take on Scotland). Super-6 will start from tomorrow, and for India their first match is against a very strong Australian side. There are three other matches for 21st - Bangladesh vs South Africa, Rwanda vs New Zealand and Ireland vs England.
