Rain is creating a lot of issues at the cricket tournament in 2022 Asian Games. Three of the Quarter-final matches were washed out, and as a result India, Bangladesh and Pakistan gained direct entry to the semi-finals. The semi-finals are between India and Bangladesh, and between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Indonesia and Hong Kong were supposed to play in QF stage, but then rain destroyed their chances. Malaysia also had their match abandoned against India. Men's tournament will start by 27th September (Group phase).

I see that this thread would be quiet for long time and there is no discussion about matches or other topics related to cricket. The last post on this thread was posted on 16 Sep. Let's active this thread and start discussion about matches  Wink

England vs Ireland

Second ODI match between England and Ireland lived. Ireland won toss and decide to bowling first. England batting performance has been commendable. England played 30 over and scored 194 runs while losing 3 wicket. Ireland seems to be difficult situation because bowling performance not good. If England continues this performance they successfully set a target of 300 or more runs.

New Zealand vs Bangladesh

Second ODI match between New Zealand and Bangladesh has started first match draw due to rain. In this match, New Zealand performed quite well and set a target of 254 runs in 49.2 over and whole team out. New Zealand batting innings are over and now it is Bangladesh turn to take the field. In the first match Bangladesh had a strong bowling performance and it will be interesting to see how their batting lineup performs in this match.
Can Bangladesh successfully chase down the target of 254 run or not?

My opinion is the Srilanka had used the DRS for the win.The Pakistan had failed to win the easy game by allow the Srilanka to score the run and specially that last four runs.
It was a match reduced to 42 overs due to rain and the target set by Pakistan was adjusted by a run by DLS method and not DRS (review system) Wink. The boundary in the last over was a lucky edge and nothing could be done to prevent that other than moving the slip position.

~
The first one is India vs Pakistan match, which allow the Indian cricket team to play one day match in two days.Secondly we all know the match of Srilanka vs Pakistan had end with DRS.Both the time,Pakistan suffered the pain.
Pakistan performed poorly in those matches and hence they lost the match granted that in the match against Sri Lanka their main bowlers were injured during the India match and it is time the players need to take care of their fitness to play the ODI.

No doubt cricket is the biggest Industry in India and no other sports match the popularity of cricket in India.

Recently in the Asia Cup, we have had a lot of rain affected matches, the results of which are decided through the DLS System. Most of us do not know how this DLS method works and more importantly how the calculations are made in this method.

The below article explains all and is worth reading.

How the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method works

My opinion is the Srilanka had used the DRS for the win.The Pakistan had failed to win the easy game by allow the Srilanka to score the run and specially that last four runs. The sponsor for the cricket in India was huge compared to the other sports in India. The football team in India was also good, but the players not getting sponsor like cricket.Even the Saudi Arabia Club not take any Indian players for the game at very low cost.Back to Cricket, the rain plays huge role in two different matches. The first one is India vs Pakistan match, which allow the Indian cricket team to play one day match in two days.Secondly we all know the match of Srilanka vs Pakistan had end with DRS.Both the time,Pakistan suffered the pain.

@Sithara007 cricket is inbuilt as an religion in every Indian be it a kid or an adult and that’s why Cricket will always have an ready made audience which is always growing in numbers. Furthermore when IPL was made longer I thought that this was it the end of IPL was near but surprisingly many people actually watched all matches and enjoyed it too and that’s when it stuck me no matter what BCCI does people won’t stop watching Cricket and it’s popularity won’t ever die.

In India, cricket is far ahead of all the other sports in terms of popularity. There are franchise leagues in other sports as well, such as the Indian Super League (football), Premier Badminton League, UBA Pro Basketball League, Premier Handball League, Hockey India League, Pro Kabaddi League and Prime Volleyball League. But none of these leagues have managed to attract Indian audience in sizable numbers. Therefore the advertisers and TV broadcasters prefer the IPL, and the second preference is being given to the state-level leagues, such as Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) and Maharaja Trophy T20.

Craze of cricket in india along with BCCI management has changed cricket altogether. Till 90s there was not much money in cricket and only England and Aus have strong influence in crikcet. But now bcci is supreme board in cricket along with England and Aus. IPL is growing bigger and bigger with every passing year and this is giving immense benefits to all players involved including broadcasters.

Two things are happening now. Popularity of cricket in India remains as it is, and that in other countries such as England and Australia are on the decline. As a result, now India is contributing to almost 90% of the ICC revenues, while the media rights fetch smaller amounts with each passing cycle in other regions. IPL will only get bigger and bigger. Very soon we will have ~20 teams playing in this league, and 4 months every year from the cricket calendar will be blocked for the IPL. In the end, we will get something similar to the situation in basketball, where NBA is dominating the sport and USA is almost unbeatable.

As a result of various broadcasting channels buying broadcasting rights from BCCI for so much money, I have never heard that all those broadcasting channels have suffered financially after paying so much money for broadcasting rights. Broadcasting channels are earning certain amount of money. One of the means of income for the channels which buy broadcasting rights from BCCI is to earn a large amount of money from various advertisements as well as the large number of people tuning to a particular channel. BCCI is really lucky because they have given birth to the same tournament as IPL and also have so many rich channels to telecast their matches who buy broadcasting rights from BCCI for huge amount of money.

It would not be wrong if Indian legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar is called the godfather of cricket. He has the highest century, half century, highest runs in international career. At the same time there is another record in his career which no one wants to break. This record of Tendulkar is the record of the highest rate. This former star cricketer has seen the face of defeat in the most matches in his international career. Mushfiqur Rahim, the wicket-keeper batsman of the national team, is trying to share this record. Only if Bangladesh loses in 10 matches, this right-handed batsman will overtake Tendulkar as the highest-hitting cricketer. At the same time, if Bangladesh loses in the remaining two matches of the Asia Cup, Mushi will join the former Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene, who is second in this list. In international cricket. Tendulkar has seen the face of defeat in 256 matches.  Jayawardene who was second in 249 and Mushi who was in third were the team's losers in 247 matches. In addition to Mushi, there are two more Bangladeshis in the list of 10 cricketers who faced the most losses.  Shakib Al Hasan is at number 9 in the list after losing 228 matches. And seeing the face of defeat in 225 matches, former ODI captain Tamim Iqbal is in the tenth position.

^^^^ Jio is a relatively new entrant into the OTT platform, so they may face some issues such as picture quality and buffering early on. But I hope that in the end, they will turn out to be a better alternative to Hotstar. OTT platforms such as Sony LIV provide great quality feed, but I always had issues with Hotstar. It can't get any shittier than this. Quality is so low, and then they bombard us with their ads. Also, we need to remember that India is a cost-sensitive market. A majority of the subscribers care more about the quantity, rather than quality. All that said, a monopoly for any one of the platforms would be disastrous.

When the proposal is low than the previous one, it means some sort of insider game could've been played. The quality that Disney provides used to be better in my view considering what the jio network provides.
If it was Adani owned then you can certainly say that some sort of game is going on but not sure about this  Cheesy.

~
JioTV was the first to provide 4K live streaming in India, if I am not wrong. The quality is much better than what Disney-Hotstar is offering, and almost equal to the stream from Sony LIV. So I don't have any problem with Viacom18 winning the bid. As long as it is not Hotstar, I don't really care. They are the worst. Always bombard the viewers with ads, and then provides low quality streams with a lot of interruptions.
In papers it might be the first to provide 4k live streaming, not sure but i am using their service and i know first hand it is a shitty service. Watch any match in Jio Cinema, if you toggle between screens the advertisement keeps on playing in a loop even without having the option to skip until you watch the content, not the case with Hotstar or even Fancode has an issue like that. If you watched any Fifa world Cup matches you would know how shitty their service was as the app was crashing more often.

Granted, i have their premium one year subscription because they migrated my Voot membership to JioCinema and some of the streaming issues are fixed but the advertisement is still an issue while playing non sporting events as there is no option to ignore them even with premium subscription.

PS: I am using 300 Mbps plan, so not complaining about the lack of quality in terms of pixilation or anything but the actual jio Cinema app needs improvement to be on par with Hotstar, netflix, prime or sonyLiv and bunch of other apps that i am using without any issues.

Disappointing news for the BCCI. Viacom18 won the auction for BCCI media rights (all of the international and domestic matches hosted by BCCI in India). They will be paying a total of ₹5963 crore for the 2023-27 cycle, while last time Disney Star had paid a total of ₹6138 crore. In USD terms, the difference is much higher ($720 million vs $944 million).
To be frank these kind of money spent to purchase the broadcast rights are ridiculous and the BCCI is fortunate enough as there are players who wanted to establish their platform and hence willing to shell out huge amount and now Viacom18 who is a subsidiary of Jio Cinema who broadcasted 2022 FIFA World Cup for free upgraded their service this year and started their premium services, personally their direct competition usually provide much better services and hopefully they will improve their service.

If you count in USD then it does look bad but it looks alright when looking at INR (Bidding was in INR). BCCI knew that there won't be any bidding war due to various reasons and that's why they only wanted a base price to cover, in which they succeded.

Overall it's good for consumers as JIO now has IPL +WPL + All India homes matches + Domestic tournaments for 5 years. At least we don't have to take multiple subscriptions.

For ACC and ICC tournaments, you still need to subscribe to Hotstar. And in case you want to watch some of the quality test series such as the Ashes, then you need a subscription for Sony LIV. Anyway, people like me watch multiple sports, and not just cricket. Asian Games, Olympics.etc are also important and at least some of the Indian audiences may therefore go for other OTT platforms. And it needs to be seen how this monopoly can impact pricing. For how long JioTV will stream matches for free? At some point, they are going to stop free streaming.
JIO has 2 platforms JIO Cinema for OTT (IPL+WPL+ All home Bilateral series + other sports + ETC) and JIO TV, it basically provides every channel like traditional cable and you can watch pretty much every sport with this.

You only need a Jio number and you can access both platforms free of cost. On Jio Cinema you have the option of a yearly subscription if you want to access paid content similar to Hotstar (HBO content).

I still have a Hotstar subscription but i am not sure if i am going to renew it. I might think about taking a subscription for a month or two when some marquee competition comes but clearly won't go for a yearly subscription.

I posted this last year.
Okay guys if you peeps are using JIO tv on your phones and want to access JIO on your pc or laptop then i would suggest you to try this (some might already know this).

Download Bluestacks Android Emulator and download JIO TV app, after this sync your existing jio number. Pretty smooth experience on lappy with excellent quality (Yet to try on Smart TV).

@Sithara007 Hotstar definitely has some streaming problem and it lags a lot even when you’re on their paid plan with no ads so let’s hope this time we’ll get better streaming. Lastly coming back to the Asia Cup Bangladesh disappointed me with their performances yesterday because I felt that they could have definitely scored more and then put in better efforts to defend their low target but in the end they just let Srilanka win the match comfortably.

The billionaire network haven't left any of the industry and now the focus is upon the sporting associated with media. Long back itself they're owners of teams and now the media rights.
