Russia Has Deployed BASTION Mobile Coastal Defense Missiles in the Crimea

http://www.matthewaid.com/post/85709316751/russia-has-deployed-bastion-mobile-coastal-defense

I never thought that there were ethnic Germans in Crimea. The Crimean peninsula is quite far from Germany. How many Germans were there? And why did they left Crimea?

The Crimean Goths were deported by Josef Stalin during the WW2. Until then, there were some 50,000 Germans living there (51,299 in 1939 census).

Out of the 27 districts which existed in Crimea prior to the WW2, two were considered to be German dominated (Telmansky and Büyük Onlarsky).

You're mistaken the two populations:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crimean_Goths (probably extinct)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crimea_Germans (the ones the article is about).

That's interesting:
10,000 ethnic Germans wants return to the Crimea.

This is very welcome news for the Crimeans in general. The Germans are a very hardworking group of people. I hope that the entire Crimean Goth community will return to their homeland, along with other minorities such as the Crimean Greeks and the Crimean Bulgars. It will be a good option to create some German national villages, just like the ones in Altai Krai and Omsk Oblast.

Russian Ministry of Defence (infrastructure division) started deliveries of water to Crimea by deploying new pipelines from deep-water wells

That will solve the drinking water problem. But unfortunately, the irrigated crops might need to be abandoned altogether. It is such a shame, as Crimea produces some of the best wine from the former-USSR.

This is an old news item. But posting here because some people were going ballistic arguing that the Russians treated Crimean Tatars disrespectfully.

Muslim girl, 19, 'stoned to death after taking part in beauty contest'

I haven't followed the news, but one commentor wrote:

You should investigate more about the news you put on your website, because Katya Koren is actually a 19 year-old Christian woman originally from Russia, who had been missing in Sovyetskiy-Crimea for a week according to Crimean Tatar responsibles. The murder was not committed because of any religious reason, whether Islam or Christianity, but after sexual harrasment by Bilal Gaziyev, 16, a Crimean Tatar. I wonder what's the problem with putting religion in everything and provoking people. It is a shame that we can't even trust the news we read.

Anyone knows more about the murder enquiry?

Quote
Police have opened a murder investigation and are looking into claims that three Muslim youths killed her, claiming her death was justified under Islam.
One of the three - named as 16-year-old Bihal Gaziev - is under arrest and told police that Katya had 'violated the laws of Sharia'. Gaziev has said he has no regrets about her death.

From the article ^.

It seems more like it was a rape followed by murder and those youngsters just thought about sharia laws as a scapegoat.

Also , dailymail....that's one paper you shouldn't trust a bit

Don't forget about doublethink Smiley

Quote
To know and not to know, to be conscious of complete truthfulness while telling carefully constructed lies, to hold simultaneously two opinions which cancelled out, knowing them to be contradictory and believing in both of them, to use logic against logic, to repudiate morality while laying claim to it, to believe that democracy was impossible and that the Party was the guardian of democracy, to forget, whatever it was necessary to forget, then to draw it back into memory again at the moment when it was needed, and then promptly to forget it again, and above all, to apply the same process to the process itself – that was the ultimate subtlety; consciously to induce unconsciousness, and then, once again, to become unconscious of the act of hypnosis you had just performed.

Breaking! US Planned to Turn Crimea into Military Base Against Russia

http://futuristrendcast.wordpress.com/2014/04/24/breaking-us-planned-to-turn-crimea-into-military-base-against-russia/

Quote
The information coming to the surface now shows that if Crimea stayed as part of Ukraine, it would have become a huge NATO/US military base. I seriously doubt that the people of the Crimea would have stood for that, but if such a thing did happen, it would have meant WWIII as Russia would never allow it. From this perspective it’s especially clear why NATO, USA and EU were so shocked that Russia decisively accepted Crimea back. They already considered it theirs.

If deputies didn't want to close their foreign accounts, they should have resigned from their posts.

Poklonskaja ended up on EU list of sanctions:

(Well the parrots from Canada continue to screech the word "sanctions": http://itar-tass.com/politika/1181646?utm_medium=rss20)

Putin instructed the RF government to help Crimea organise vacation season:
http://www.tvc.ru/news/show/id/39501

RF Central Bank stopped operations of 6 Ukrainian banks on Crimean territory:
http://www.forbes.ru/news/257037-tsb-prekratil-deyatelnost-shesti-ukrainskikh-bankov-v-krymu

Since we're talking about sanctions , while i was reading one of the news i saw this other article:

http://rt.com/politics/158304-russia-foreign-assets-bank/

Apart from the funny side of the story:

Quote
The newspaper’s unnamed source in the government has stressed that the main objective of the move was to uncover the civil servants who were dodging the ban on foreign assets as the sanctions make such people vulnerable to court action in in foreign jurisdictions, which is against the government’s desires.

Is there such ban in Russia?
