Sort of. Except that dealing with cryptocurrencies is a lot riskier than doing so with stocks, in my own opinion. The stock market is largely regulated by the government, in contrast to cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin which are heavily unregulated. But, despite this, your chances of profiting with crypto also increases over time as the higher the risk, the higher the reward it will be.
For your own benefit, I think that it's best to diversify between crypto and stocks to live a steady financial life for quite a long time. There will be people that will simply prefer stocks over crypto, because of their regulated nature, which means that their money will be safe and protected by the government. But with crypto, it's the wild west out there, which means that you're on your own in case you lose all your hard-earned money.
That's true, not to mention that when you are buying stock, you are buying a portion of something, a tangible company to say.
When you buy a crypto-currency, let's face it, you're praying on future demand and buy/sell power. You don't own anything technically. But it's not different when buying a fiat currency hoping it will raise in the future.
