There's been HBM mentioned earlier before in this topic....

I got my hands on my first card with HBM (Sap Fury Nitro).

It's behaviour is f@ckin magic! Totally different from GDDR5.

I got ideas from modded Nano and Fury X roms from the OCN thread and copied 400 timings to 500&600.
But nothing changed even a bit, although I copied the straps to both 00 & 01 tables! The hashrates remained exactly the same.

I discovered there is a much more complex mechanism that determines timings dynamically.
Clearly there are frequency ranges about ~20MHz wide, where the timings change gradualy.
I found a sweet spot where I get above 33mh with stock timing, but there is much more I think.
And also there is a strong connection between GPU&HBM freqs, the performance gain is not linear.

And what is with that 100MHz first strap? (There are straps for 100, 400, 500, 600)

So many questions...so much pain..!?

I'm testing with copy strap 1:1500 for all but my mem card can't stable with mem 2000 .And Strap 1:1625 can stable with mem 2000 but got speed ~27M ...
Thank you

00 8D ** 00 VDDC control
work for nitro+ card but not work for nitro card
It works for all which bios can be opened with atombiosreader. I had only one XFX that didn't have(or couldn't find it) VOI.

yes it work but just for IR3567B nitro+ card
nitro card using NCP81022 and it not work
they are different card
all nitro and nitro+ bios is same and can be oppened by atombiosreader
i can add offset for all bios, but power offset only affected to nitro+ card, not for nitro

It appears I can control memory voltage! Sweet!

Did you have to directly control it via i2c, or was it easier than that?

Yes and no. Used the VBIOS.

00 8D ** 00 VDDC control
00 8E ** 00 MVDDC Control

you can easily add it into the rom.

Ok, nailed it, written nice tool for myself. Grin
Question to gurus.
Am I understanding it right and some RX cards do not have i2c voltage object in bios?
For example https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/185464/powercolor-rx480-2048-160728.

I have been watching this thread with anticipation of jumping into the RX480 world.
Last week tried to order a bunch of MSI RX480 X Gaming 8GB.  Both Jet and B&H Photo said were in stock.  Just got an email from both saying manufacturer shortage.  They each cancelled the order. Sounds to me like Vega release might be imminent.
Sorry, I know it's off topic, sort of.

Vega release IS imminent (May or June). Also the 500 series Polaris rebrands which will be the direct replacement are due this month.

It was not the Vega release, but the 500 series parts, same ASIC as the 400 series cards, and it seems AMD is a bit short on parts so they canned orders across the market...

I have 1625 timing and i'm hitting 29+ on all my Hynix cards.

In case you didn't see my PM, how high are you clocking your mem with that strap?

EDIT: for those interested he said 2025

i have a rx470 4gb hynix memory (sapphire nitro+) so i just use polaris bios editor , take the 1500 strap , put it into nr's mod site and paste the result it into 1500 , 1625 , 1750 and 2000 ?

or am i missing something?

Sounds right to me! You can even experiment with the 1625 strap if you want with hynix, it seems like it has the potential to get like 0.5mhs more if you can clock the mem high enough

I may have read someone say that powercolor 470 4gb red dragon has always had samsung. I have 2 of them (single fan) and they both have samsung

i also have a powercolor red dragon 4gb single fan with samsung memory. goes good on eth with the 1750 strap mod but it has a crappy hsf so runs warm.

Yeah those cheap Powercolor cards are absolute garbage. Funny enough it seems to cool as well as the Asus White's.

It was only the wind.
It's based on the 1625 strap, since the 1500 strap wasn't stable for me beyond 1875.
That's very strange, I have several rx with hynix and the 1500 strap is the most stable at least up to 2050.

Maybe your cards have better cooling for the RAM?  This is an Asus Strix.  After tuning the 1625 strap, it was stable at ~27.2Mh with a 1950 mem clock.  Now I'm testing 2000.

If it's a Strix you might have memory voltage control, have you tried/checked this?

I believe their custom VRM chip does control the memory voltage, but I haven't looked into it much.  Since the RAM is not cooled (no thermal connection to the heatsink), I thought bumping the memory voltage would make things worse.  The tuned 1625 strap is working quite well so far.  It tested OK at 2000, and now I'm trying 2050.

Once I've found the limit, I may look into the memory voltage to control power use, and see if it is stable with lower memory voltages.

I have a Strix, pretty sure it doesn't work.

EDIT: Wait... wait... there's something here....
Be careful! It may bite!!
