Once I had this issue and via troubleshooting, swapped to a Corsair PSU  BOOM, one of my RX470 exploded!!!!

by any chance this explosion sounded like a "loud cracking of the whip" ?

I got something like that awhile back.... but after inspection of all rigs... seems business as usually ... what could it be?
I think so many of those cards are exploding the msi Rma team cant even replace them with the same units i just sent back 5 msi frozer 470s that fried on me and msi wants to send me back 4
Msi armor 1070/ 8gb my cards were all 4gb but i dont like 1070s for mining

not sure if i should accept

A friend of mine just got as lucky as you.  I'm wondering if they purposely sabotage my 7 MSI RX470 RMA saying chip failures as they didn't have replacement and didj't want to give me 7 new 1070 plus a new MSI Gaming 5.  I'm very dissappointed with their decision and this is starting to make me rethink my future Vendor of choice for GPUS.   Currently I'm very heavy on Sapphire and MSI.  Sapphire seem to have poorer QA but their RMA speed and support is phenomenal.
what you are saying they are not honoring the waranty on cards less than six months old?
that cant be right

It's the same crappy lady who treats it like it's her parent's company.  In the picture they sent to me, only 1 looks like it got damaged via shipping.  The others were issues with the cards shorting out so of course their will be some chip damage.  Very stupid and makes me Anti MSI now.  I have over 150 MSI GPUs and rarely do RMAs, very disappointed.   The Motherboard picture, I can't even see what they are saying as damage.  I would like to meet Grace Liao one day and say .........................Quit cheating US!

Dear customer,

For your MSI RMA# RRD17003267, a  total of 8 components received (1 motherboard, 7 video cards).
All have chip damages and other physical damages. Please see attached.

MSI RMA Dept is unable to receive under this damaged condition and will return back all 8pcs as is.

Got any good Armor 480 Rom for me Marvell?  I still see you prefer to get new RX470 over the refurb 1070.  Happy to order you new one and you send me those refurbs 1070.  PM me.

P.S Marvell1 did hook me up with some advice on previous RX470 ROMs.  He knows his stuff.  =)

wait your saying MSI wants to send you back 4 1070s instead of your 5 470 and your contemplating accepting?? You can buy EIGHT 470s by selling 4 1070s...
They dont send back brand new units in the original box they send just the card and its usually a referb
probably could get $250 to $300 at most for it less maybe , then with paypal and ebay fees close to 220
i paid $199 for this 470 back last oct

You're still getting well over your $199 you paid for plus your RX470 right now is worth less than $150 used and worst after Ebay fees.  Plus they would also send you refurb RX470s not new replacements so that only make the 1070 deal that much sweeter.  I would be so happy to get those cards in exchange for my RX470.  I'll gladly  order you new RX470s for those refurb 1070.  Would that make you happier?  =)  I think it's a good deal and you should have a GIANT smile.  They cheated me out of my 7 RX470 and 1 MSI Gaming 5.  That was not COOL.
actually on newegg those msi frozers sell for $199 still they are the coolest running 470/ best quaility 470/ right now

yun9999 I am pumped and want to order some cards and build my first test rig before I go "balls to the wall"

Could you tell me the card you are currently making the most profit with the smallest ROI time, that would be great. I am also interested in what VEGA will hold so I may just want to be small until then because those may bring some great advances to the mining community.

P.S. I just ordered a Ledger Nano S to store my coins

P.S.S. do you have a post about when you installed the L iron in those cases with the mounts for your risers so I can make it easier than just guessing

Id check with your power company since you already have a significant investment before you spend anymore (im sure you have but better safe than sorry). Not sure where you live/laws there..but what your doing is illegal in most states, and all it takes is a neighbor to snitch on you and theyll shut you down fast. Just an FYI since I know alot of people that have build garage farms and found out the hard way, and its a good thing to know for new people thinking about doing the same.

Anything past 10-20 KW continuous in a residential zone is a red flag and youll get investigated eventually.

What do you think they will do to me?  Why would it be illegal?  I'm not growing weed.  I've been over 20KW for over 2yrs.  I'm not concerned.  My 400 AMP is also on a 2nd meter, so if I have to switch to Commercial, no big deals.  Hmmmm........................I also know a lot of garage farmers who are well over the 20KW range with no issues.  What law would prevent me from using over 10-20KW when I'm paying for it not stealing free power?  What law is preventing me from having 5 Teslas and Teslas Power walls that will pull those wattage?  I'm not doing anything illegal so I'm not concern.  Why would they approve my 400 AMP if I'm not allowed to use it?  Don't forget the city approves the permit and the Electric company have to certify and accept it, plus PLUG my wires into the their transformer.   What about the large mansions?  10KW is nothing and 20KW is not hard to hit to keep large Mansion cool and pools running.

So you're telling me they will approve all that just to say "SORRY sir but you're only allowed to use up to 50-100 AMP out of your standard home that is equipped from the builder of 150 AMP?  You do realize that 100 AMP @ 220V is over 20KW right?  Just 50 Amps on 220V is over your 10KW concern.  Please show me a legal case that say it's illegal to use more than 10-20KW of Power?  I dont buy this urban legend as there's so many home miners that are pushing over 50 amps easily at home without issues.   10-20KW is nothing.  I'm going to be pushing over 70KW soon.    I do believe they will be curious and come checking to see if there is a Meter failure which they did for my house.  FBI can scan via helicopters for Weed growers, grow lights have different wave lengths then mining gears.  Please stop all this Urban legend myths to SCARE people.

P.S Texas law is prepping to allow people to grow weed like in Colorado.  Now I can supplement my slowing mining income.  Please stop spreading fake rumors and put some facts behind stuff rather like I know a guy who knows a guy type of story.

This was done with a permit through City and power company, I don't see anything illegal about it. Typical homes come with 100-200 amps only.

Could you explain this a little more?  What is illegal about using too much power?  I understand the investigations, I just figured you would show them your farm and they would be like, "oh its not weed, OK no big deal".

Yeah I noticed when I go from 23% discount to 24% it drops from 85% success to 50% so I'm assuming 23% may be the safest to do for reasonable speed.

Do you know what it means by "success"? Like is there a chance I just lose my money?

Where do you generally buy your equipment from?

Depends on what place give me the best price.  Jet.com, Newegg.com, Ebay, Amazon thru Purse.io, etc.  I also try to purchase from forum members whenever possible, Finksy, HolyScott, Hawkfish007, Sidehacks, etc.  For used stuff, forum members have also been really really good to me.  I buy stuff in bulk at ridiculous buddy prices.

I just found out about purse.io today. What discount percentage can you recommend and/or could you explain anything else that I may need to know about the site?

Depends on market conditions.  It's all trial and error but 15% is the minimum discounts you can get easily.  Try higher if you're not in the rush up to 23%.  There are many scammers so be aware but Purse does help fix those issue for you so it's ok.  Never order more than 2 GPU per order and you'll be fine.
