I have a semi-related question. I ordered a 1700 watt PSU and in the reviews, one guy said to plug it into the wall, not a surge protector. He said his first one burnt up because of that. However, the warranty on my GPU units does not cover power surges. I'd hate to risk that much. What do you do, surge protector direct from wall?

If I can get my electricity price issues worked out I will scale up, but I may need an electrician to put some high capacity plugs in.

do yourself a favor install a whole house surge protector

I though you only need that in the third world or if you are in an area with lots of storms and lighting.

@Reelen - You can see then OpenCL errors you were concern about?  It's crappy code, I'm getting a ton of them.  Reboots or switching miner will fix them.  If not then that means you actually may have a hardware issue such as Riser or GPU, but most of the time it's sh%t code since these guys are pushing our GPU to the max to increase their profit margin at our own expense of higher wattage and killing our GPUS.

I'll keep an eye out.  Mining Eth on Claymore 7.4 and its only on two rigs.  I reduced intensity and will try reboots before looking at hardware.

my fear of having enclosed servers for mining is things like PSU failure GPU failuire etc, with open air rigs it takes no time at all to pull out the bad card or swap PSU

these setups look nice and all buy i already hate working in cramped and tigh places.  I currenly have around 250 gpus in six wireframe racks I could not imagine having to

dig into server cases and pull our one or two cards or swap a PSU.

Cool, and make sure you measure wattage right as there's no way it would consume 5W.  5W for LED is super bright and equiv to a 60W incandescent bulb.   I have the EVGA 1070 before, it aint that bright.  Bring the SEXY Back.................wait until you see the Shed Sexy Light show.  =)

Worked my @$$ off today, coming in to try and have me a nice ICE COLD..................My son Alfie, had a partied and left none.

The LED is designed and tested at the Factory.  It's not a MOD, so you should have zero issues with them.  It's time to bring SEXY BACK!!!!  I never encourage over spending for looks, always invest in the HASH but when it's cheap and SEXY?  Why not?

Just like my SEXY 50" TV as a monitor for the SHED.........................SEXY and CHEAP..............Why NOT?

To the left is my Canary Security Camera that will notify me of any motion in the garage and save a video if anyone is trying to break in.  I have the same for my garage.  Great for insurance protection.  It also have Humidity and Temp sensors.

Looking good there people.

One question thought, i know the sexiness is awesome & all, but have you ever seen how much power you save if you disable the led of your cards ? it begin to stack up nicely when you have plenty of rigs. What's your thoughts on this. Sexyness VS Profit ?  Grin

LED = SUPER Low watts.  This is also why all my home light bulbs are LED now.  They use even less than CFL.  This is also another reason why my Garage is lit via 3 x 4 ft LED Light and the shed is lit by 1 of them as I never want to turn off my lights.  I also hate turning up my attic lights where I store all my GPU boxes.  They are very well organized by GPU types up there and I can hold at least 1200 GPU boxes in my attic.  Those 2 LED bulbs uses 7W each, so I never turn them off.  Having the lights on 24x7 also help reduce inviting Rats into the place as they prefer darker places.

If I have to guess, all of the MSI LEDs combined probably uses less than 15W for my over 150 MSI.  Here's a good comparison so you can get a rough idea.

XMAS lights
Your display size and choice of bulbs, whether incandescent or LED, will influence your energy bill the most. For example, a 100-count string of incandescent mini lights runs at 40 watts, while a 70 count of 5mm Wide Angle LEDs is approximately 4.8 watts total. In fact, because incandescent wattage is 80-90% more than LED wattage, the cost to power an incandescent can be up to 90x greater than powering an LED.

In Summary - This is SEXY on the DIRT Cheap, leave those LEDs on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Don't forget, I'm all ABOUT THE EFFICIENCY, that to me is the SEXIEST.  If it aint making me money, I want to keep it CHEAP.

Hehe Smiley Well for me it was more 5/6 watts per rig, i guess the EVGA isn't that effective when it come to led, to note the led system allow you to change from alot of colors and effects, maybe this system is more complex so use more power, that's overall 60w saved, ok it's not that much... but still. Also i had weird behavior when i tested with the LEDs on it seems the hashing / miner were less stable, but it may be in my head, but since the led system is more complex than basic cards... i dunno.

I agree with you LED lighting is super cheap, i converted 2 years ago never looked back  Wink

On another note what is your prefered remote control program for your rigs, do you use any monitors dummy plugs or something ?

hey guys... i have the same on/off switch ~ its really cheap and good  Grin

too bad, all of them will have to go once the SRR in put in place.

Anyone got theirs yet?

Hawkfish is getting 1 sent to him in 3 days.  Tytanik was interested in using my place as a USA warehouse, as well as sending 1 unit for me to do a Product review but I guess he got too busy.  Funny you mentioned that as I was just telling Hawkfish, those SEXY power buttons will be gone once we use SRR.   "Meaby..................he will eventually send me a unit for review"

@ Finksy - Please work on an PCI adapter option similar to the Panda where I can plug PCI from my GPUs inside the server case to a breakout board on the inside and acts as PCI bridge with ports on the outside where the Server PSU cable can plug into it.  This will allow easier disconnects and let me use a Pico PSU inside.  That would be a good solution for 2980 PSU as they can be support inside the rack via horizontal support panel.

Cannot +1 this enough.  I was actually thinking of taking all the backplates off the rosewell cases and carefully wire the GPUs up with extenders, but servicing and mobility would be a nightmare.

I didn't get nearly enough done this weekend, so can't show you are completed version of my growing home farm, but here are a couple pics of rigs running smoothly along with an example of Finksy's 4k combo kit in action powering 12 R9 390s with ease.

Cant thank this community enough for helping us new guys out.  Hope to pay it forward to others!

Most awesome thing ever too....got my girl to help me build as rig.  She did a WAY better job at cable management than me.  Told her she has to do the rest of them from now on. Smiley
